I am 62 years old and , within the past year, have changed to a 'whole foods plant based diet'. I have seen a big difference in health issues I have. During this time I started to consume, for the first time, soy products. I really appreciated this lecture because I think that it gives a very detailed explanation of soy and what it's affect or non-affect it has on our bodies. I grow weary 'arguing' with people about the 'harmful' effects of it's consumption. Thank you .

There is so much conflicting information out there about soy, with everyone claiming that they are right, that it is hard to know what is true and what is bunk. It is frustrating.
@harishkumarko7 жыл бұрын
Timothy Ray if you are in USA or Canada it's better to avoid soy in my opinion since soy in these two countries is predominantly GMO meaning glyphosate ingestion.
@timothyray44407 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Yes, I am totally aware that over 90% of our soy is GMO and that glyphosates are heavily used on them. I only consume organic soy products, which are not supposed to be GMO, and I do not consume a lot of them. My big confusion, and I am not alone, is whether soy products do in fact interfere with human hormone levels or not. Some people say there is no effect, and some say it will give a guy man boobs. With so much conflicting information, it is hard to know what is true.
@harishkumarko7 жыл бұрын
Timothy Ray I am still confused with the fermented vs unfermented soy debate. But this presentation is clearly sponsored by the soy industry. You can see the sponsors at the end of the video. So I am skeptical of the claims made in this video. Here in India we don't have GMO crops. Plus soy is not preferred by many people and even when they eat it's in less than moderate portions. So far no risks here. But a lot of products on the supermarket shelves have started using soy isolate proteins which is of concern to me.

@daleg53805 жыл бұрын
no question that organics are good. But the mainstream critics of soy included the organics. That's clearly propaganda of the dairy and meat industry coz here in our country, we use Tofu as alternate for meats.
@josexavier16853 жыл бұрын
GMO soy is used as food for the lifestock (cows, sheeps, pigs, etc). In the EU, if a food contains more than 2% of its weight from GMO food source, it has to be displayed on the label. This, however, doesnt apply to "live" food - animal products. If you feed a cow GMO soy all the time, theres no question more than 2% of the cow's weight is GMO. So in the end, meat eaters eat GMO, whereas vegans who consume real soy, consume no GMO... And by the way it is forbidden to sell GMO soy for human consumption in Slovakia at least, so you can be sure that every package of soy you see on the shelves is non GMO soy.

Still a bit undecided, point though to make about soya, and it's derivatives, it in so many different food sources that we consume without realising it. so maybe we are eating more than what we thought we were eating. Many people can't afford organic so will be eating genetically modified soy. I would like to know about how soya is actually processed and if this is harmful to us? Last question does the doctor have a conflict of interest in anyway? Because that would undermine the information he has presented..

I do a lot of translations of scientific studies, so I feel I am in a relatively good position to assess the rationale of your presentation. I began listening, after reading really scary articles and hearing arguments all indicating the danger and harmful effects of soy products. After hearing your extremely logical and well substantiated exposition,covering all the controversial issues raised, I feel relieved and sufficiently convinced that my 1 spoonful of protein shake powder per day is not going to cause me any significant harm, considering all the other possible health and other risks to our lives we face from innumerable sources in our daily lives. Thank you. I have subscribed and look forward to hear more of your talks.

Björn Mormont i have also been wondering ..esp as not a single time has he mentioned the concern related to GMOs ...soy is a huuuuge issue in this regard! I live in Indonesia where soy is consumed daily and it is a cheap protein source for most people BUT over 70% is imported from the US,ergo Mosanto soy and all its consequences. BTW here men with low sperm count are recommended not to eat any soy products (among other recommendations)... I am vegan and only buy organic soy beans ( i make my own soy milk,yoghurt and tofu) but i do not eat it daily. As always better cross check several sources rather than relying on a single one and verifying who is sponsoring him/her...
@bjornmormont66447 жыл бұрын
Mireille, I am also a vegan and I also consume soy like 2-3 servings a week. I am not against soy. Better to rely on a variety of protein sources than depend heavily on one thing.

Which leads to questions such as what soy is he involved in (commercial / organic), what does he promote, is he maintaining integrity between his words, beliefs, and finances? If I researched and believed in a product, then I would promote it as best I could; if I thought it was dangerous and still chose to make profits off it, then I have lost my personal integrity. Most of the AMA, corporations and governments are run by those of the latter mentality, crooked and greedy.

There is nothing wrong with citing your own research if it is peer reviewed and found to be credible. Coming straight from the source is the best thing. Yes, absolutely, if the findings are questionable and seem to be motivated by something other than finding the truth, then one shouldn’t put a lot of weight on the presenter’s conclusions. Otherwise you run into a situation where you take the advice of your furnace repair man who did his own “research.” If someone is involved in the business that is being discussed they should make a disclosure right at the beginning. If independent reviewers with nothing to gain agree with the person, then who ducking cares. Take their info with a grain of salt, but not all scientist who work in a particular industry mislead people.

Not buying this speech and “research”. He did not mention about GMO vs NON GMO! Avoided talking about the elephant in the room! US eats GMO and most of Asia eats NON GMO! So that could very well be the reason for soy causing cancers in the US right? Why did you not talk about that?
@daleg53805 жыл бұрын
It's not soy that causes cancer, it's your addiction to meat, fried foods and processed sugars! Dont blame it to soy, blame it to your addiction to junks! Im Asian, I Import soy from US, I drink a liter per day and Im a pure Vegan. I did this for 5 years already, and why im not fat? Why dont I have cancers? why am I healthy? most of us are. Simply because we cease to eat the foods that you people are craving everyday, the meats, dairies, eggs, fried stuffs, refined sugars in pasta, pizza, etc. Again, dont blame it to soy.

They can sometimes tease out human outcome effects, but they aren't always accurate. Only way to know for sure how it'll affect humans is to test on humans.

Animal studies are accurate. That mean they are sometimes correct and sometimes not correct. Many face paints and shampoos give people rashes because they do not give rashes to the rats. Not precise data for peoples.

Soy products are high in protein and fat. People in general should eat a fairly low protein, low fat, high carbohydrate diet. Therefore, soy should be eaten as a smaller part of an overall diet. People think they need beans and or nuts for protein or vital nutrition which is not true. Only if ones diet is just fruit or sugars can one get into nutritional difficulties. If one eats the classic starchy staples and vegetables then that is all one needs but adding soy, beans, nuts as auxiliary items for interesting diversity is fine if it is a small part of the diet. Note, people should be very careful of any processed soy products which can have too much protein or fats. Tofu is traditionally meant to be eaten in small slices whereas people tend to eat large amounts. Tofu is served in Chinese restaurants in the US but in quantities far exceeding traditional amounts whereas the plain boiled rice and vegetables are served in quantities far smaller than traditional levels.

@manictiger6 жыл бұрын
That's completely wrong. We spent millions of years eating high fat, high protein, low carb. Only in the last few thousand years have we started stockpiling large supplies of carbs, much of which HAS to be processed AND enriched, to deal with the fact that they're full of anti-nutrients.
