The Solar System: The Final Frontier. Provided you forget about everything beyond the Kuiper Belt, such as the rest of the entire Universe. You might want to know which ones are worth the effort of visiting and which you might want to pass on. Hopefully I can help with that.

just discovered your channel and these videos are really well-made, keep up the good work Though I do feel you undersold the moon a bit here because of its huge amounts of raw materials (it’s 20x more massive than the entire asteroid belt) it is an incredible place to build all sorts of space infrastructure, including the stuff we’d need to colonize everywhere else. And because of its lack of an atmosphere, low gravity, and close distance to earth, it is in the absolute perfect position to do launch said infrastructure (including stuff that would just be outright impossible to build on earth) Without developing the moon I just don’t see a way we ever have a serious presence in space its far from a good place to live but it’s a hell of a world to industrialize anyways this channel is definitely going places and i wish you luck

I'm psyched to see you here because for some reason, this video reminded me of your channel. Even before I clicked on it. I found you when you were smaller, so I probably just went "is this another Kyplanet?" Since this channel is also still small. EDIT: Obviously, I know you two have entirely different styles. You're way more on the science side. I just associated the two of you for some reason in my head.

Totally agree! The moon's going to be super important when it comes to building up our industrial capacity throughout the solar system. I'll make a video going in-depth into the importance of the moon for colonizing and industrialising space at some point, since in this video I was only thinking about things in the context of living there with current or near-future tech. Gotta give the Moon the love it deserves :) By the way, I've seen your channel before! I'm subbed on my personal account. Keep up the good work too! Really enjoy your videos :D

Hard disagree on Venus: in short term it is bad (unless you go for floating cities) but in long term, if you put a nice solar shade on it, that's the only thing in solar system with comparable gravity to Earth.

You're correct! I'm actually surprised someone noticed lol. Yeah, I'd previously done some videos in a slower, more philosophical style. I unlisted them last night because I didn't want people to get confused about what kind of tone the channel is going for. I'm tempted to revisit the topics at some point anyway since my thoughts have developed a bit here and there. Let me know what you think, though. It's totally possible that unlisting them is a dumb call in my part haha. If folks want to see them, I can always provide links or put them back to public :)

@@Xandros_Official I think it's fine, most of them looked more philosophy-based than tech/space-based like your current aim seems to be. If I were you, I'd probably leave them all unlisted but make a playlist containing all of them for posterity. That way they don't interfere with the vibe of the channel but are still available for anyone who wants to look.

Nope. Venus is A Tier. That Earth-Like Region of the upper atmosphere is the most attractive area for colonisation in the solar system apart from Earth. It has the temps, pressures, solar power and earth-like gravity. Earth air is also a lifting gas on Venus so we have the lifting mechanism already worked out. F tier list. Do your homework.
@Xandros_Official
@Xandros_Official 2 ай бұрын
...Except you're 60km in the air and therefore have little-to-no access to Venus' terrestrial resources. ...And you have to enter/exit a planetary gravity-well to import or export anything, which is a problem considering you're totally reliant on imports due to the aforementioned lack of access to planetary terrestrial resources. ...And you have to constantly manage your centre of mass, centre of lift, wind direction, etc. including when docking orbit-capable transport with the floating colony. ...And if things go wrong there's not necessarily a huge scope for redundancy. The colony floats or everyone on it dies. Itll be a cool holiday destination once there's existing interplanetary infrastructure. In the short-term (i.e. what the video is about), asteroids are literally a more attractive prospect. So, nah. D-tier.
@MDE_never_dies
@MDE_never_dies 2 ай бұрын
@ You send mining drones back and forth from the surface and harvest water vapour and nitrogen from the atmosphere. Resource problem solved. The similar air pressure means that gas exchange happens very slowly, leaks in the structure would be relatively easy to patch up and it would take a long time for a sufficiently large structure to lose enough lift to “fall out of the sky” “There’s no redundancy” then ummm….build in some redundancy, like an emergency backup balloon system or something. This video is about colonisation, which is a long term business. Challenges like Orbital Infrastructure apply to all of the prospective worlds. But if you want your people to be able to return to Earth at some point then only the Venusians and maaaybe the Martians will ever be fit enough after a generation due to weaker bones in lower gravity on the other worlds.

Hey, listen, mad respect for standing up for Venus colonization. A lot of folks are genuinely uninformed and assume Venus colonization is impossible. It's not. And it would be awesome to see. It's nice to see people standing up for it as a potential colonization spot for the future. While I think it would be awesome to see a Venus colony, I also feel that if we attempted to set up humanity's first self-sufficient colony on Venus - we would be making things way harder for ourselves than necessary. For instance, an asteroid colony could have many layers of passive, non-complex redundant systems for maintaining pressure and life support. It could also mine resources without advanced drones capable of flying through supercritical fluid and concentrated sulfuric acid and with the capability to return all the way to a planet's upper atmosphere afterwards. It also wouldn't need a reusable orbit-class rocket to land on a platform in close proximity to the lifting bodies on which the entire colony is reliant. None of these engineering challenges are insurmountable, but I'd say it's more technically difficult, less practical, and would benefit from existing space infrastructure more than any other celestial body in the inner solar system. You raise a good point about the gravity situation, but a space colony could simulate Earth gravity with rotation, and the lack of long-term data on humans in low-G environments (0.1-0.9Gs) means we don't really know how much we ought to worry about it anyway, so it's a bit of an open question. To me, right now, based on what we know about the solar system, the challenges of colonizing Venus seem large proportional to the benefits of doing so. Maybe I'm wrong. It's no worries if you disagree.
@MDE_never_dies
@MDE_never_dies 2 ай бұрын
@@Xandros_Official An asteroid colony still presents many challenges and hazards that are not to be overlooked. -Radiation exposure in that situation is a problem not found in a Venusian Cloud Colony. -A breach of the pressurised habitat against hard vacuum presents serious hazards in the form of explosive decompression that is not found in a Venusian Cloud Colony. -The base must be shielded from micrometeoroid impacts, and the concentration of micrometeoroids goes up significantly in the asteroid belt, and while impacts are severely unlikely they are not to ignored, heavy shielding systems will need to be introduced. -Asteroids tumble and rotate in space, which presents challenges for a ship attempting to dock, unless the huge mass (Which it will need to be inorder to support a large population) can be stabilised. Then the introduction of rotating sections can present challenges in managing torques, even with counterrotating sections on the opposite sides of the asteroid. -The Asteroid will need to have sufficient quantities of water ice, as well as carbon deposits, nitrogen and other crucial elements to support base agriculture and life support systems. For Asteroids in the inner belt, water quantity is significantly reduced compared with the Kuiper Belt objects. Space is hard in general. I could see Asteroids becoming more akin to “Mining towns” in space, making use of the readily available rare metals. A Colony on Ceres may become something of a “Hub” for those sorts of operations. I do agree Venus will most likely be a holiday destination, at first. But over time they can create bigger and bigger airships that become floating towns and cities. Quite apart from that they can slowly start to modify the atmosphere with cloud seeding with algae to transform the planet over many tens or hundreds of generations. But now we’re getting into Type 1-Type 2 Civ Territory and we’ll likely have Mars fairly habitable already and a well established Asteroid mining economy.
