I remember visiting an RPG website that had really cool lore for the Jockeys, everything was biomechanical so they could fuse with their tech, they grew everything in an automated way, a bio-metal organ breaking down surrounding materials in the environment and allocate them accordingly to fit the desired purpose. I still believe this was the original idea behind the Alien, but it broke free of the Jockeys control and gave itself purpose, kind of like a Biomechanical AI. If you watch the deleted scene with Dallas and Bret being Egg-morphed, the surrounding machinery of the Nostromo looks more like it is being consumed or repurposed. I also have a theory that the Alien was consuming the Ore being transported, we are not told what ore is being transported, but what Ash said about its metabolism being extremely high would make sense if 'what' they were carrying was rich in minerals.

That is so much better than what we got in Prometheus. Giger and everything about them should reflect that.
@EternalRoman Жыл бұрын
The main reason that both PROMETHEUS and A. COVENANT failed mostly on the narrative is that Ridley Scott decided to avoid the source material that ALIEN creator and writer Dan O'Bannon had made for the Xenomorphs and the Space Jockeys themselves. Scott himself said "I can't tell a story, I'm not a storyteller" and this is clearly seen on his two last attempts. ALIEN was successful only in part of Scott's approach on the filming of the script, but Mostly the actual ALIEN creator Dan O'Bannon and to an extent Ron Shusset should had gotten more credit due to the story and script. Of course O'Bannon's inspiration for the entire story also gets credit, the Late H.R. Giger. Yet, we can see that by straying too far from the actual creator's idea is how you ruin not just a movie, but also a franchise. Scott's obsession with robots, religious stuff and Michael Fassbender is not ALIEN, because O'Bannon whom also used H.P. Lovecraft as inspiration for his story. This means that the title ALIEN was not just relegated to the creatures, but to space or the cosmos itself. What's worse is that Ridley Scott is at it again, because he can't stand that James Cameron surpassed him by indeed respecting the source material more and just added some stuff to it to make it even more iconic. The ALIEN franchise needs new blood and keep Ridley Scott away from it.

the original idea behind the scenes that was driving artists like Geiger was that alien ship did not had crew in traditional understanding of that word, instead they were part of the ship. Artwork depicts multiple stations being "manned" permanently, where machine, architecture, biology and alien are mixed together. Ship was "grwoing" its crew "into" their stations. I dont think there should be idea of any "race" in particular. This idea is interesting and conssistent with what was presented and emotionally constructed by viewers. Other ideas, like splitting alien ship and xenomorphs is not-originally Scott planned to have separate structure-piramid-with xenomorph eggs inside. Budget cuts made him move them to cargo hold of the ship. Original idea is a departure from what we see on screen, a big one. However idea of crew mixed with the ship is consistent. Thus it holds value. As consequence I think that dychotomy between space jockeys and xenomorphs makes no sense, it would be far more "alien" and hororr-like if there was no conflict, no war, just one organism/goal. Ship designed to carry the eggs, crew mixed with the ship or rather being born out of ship into perpetual servitude, and falling victim of its cargo that doesn't seem to be cargo, and ship that doesn't seem to be ship, machine that is not machine...and so on and so forth. Purposefully weird, unusal, contrary-alien. Outside of what we can comprehend. It would be far more interesting to make xenomorphs the effect and purpose of the ship and its crew.

(Of course we found out The Company wanted the crew to investigate this signal for their own nefarious reasons.) However, it turned out to be a warning from the pilot in the derelict ship for other ships to stay away. This key tenet seems to be constantly overlooked in many of the commentaries. Also we don’t seem to know how the derelict ship seems to have such a vast amount of xenomorph eggs. Were they importing them? Ripley said in Aliens, that Kane said he saw thousands of those eggs. Also in Aliens it seemed the warning signal from the derelict that had been broadcasting for a very long time was totally non existent for the Terraformers, they were oblivious until Carter Burke told one the terraformers to go look for the derelict, hence, the whole colony’s infection. I remember there being a scene in the tie-in comic where they switched off the signal. Additionally - though here memory might well play tricks on me - I think there is a snippet of deleted footage from the film where they do the same thing.

The movie doesnt go into the backstory, that was the novelization. You are correct from what i read in your comment, the company sent them there to collect a specimen, all other concerns "rescinded" (an odd word to use) and it was 'genuiney hoped that you would survive...', lol. It works from the point of view of an off the books company project. It doesnt work so well as a neverending nefariousness of the company forever. Unfortunately thats what the fiction writers tend to do: repeat ad nauseum the idea that the companies are only ever corrupt, are never good, always in conspiracy, etc. Theres no way in reality that it would go on. Weyland wouldve been embroiled in special inquiries, made to resign, the company wouldve lost licences and been fined billions, etc. The company may have been broken up. The government wouldve declared war on the xenomorph, wars would be fought, medals of honor handed out, etc. Then the woke leftist corruption of our societies could continue, climate change would be the no1 worry, and gender inequality would go back to being the thing that worries our leaders the most.

Thanks for the hint to this comic! I HATED the "humano-centric" idea of the "Engineers", having a total clear picture of that giant (obviously non-humanoid) thing in the derelict ship from the original Alien-movie. What i think of the Space Jockey interpretation on the comic book? I think it's much, MUCH better than Prometheus. Ridley Scott should've been inspired by the comic and expand on that storyline instead of inventing absurd creationist theories and oversized albino WWE characters.

This was a wonderful video and story, the posts SHOULD BE an audio panel. Still waiting for Disney or Netflix to destroy the theme. I miss the Dark Horse Presents and Alien comics, now worth the price of gold. Bud Plant had a box, actually a pallet, of early Alien print material, at discount, and as I walked the warehouse, I passed it twice....the image haunts me.

I don't remember in which comic it was but there was a giant that was still alive that was sweeping a flashlight that was disintegrating all the aliens. It was a dark horse comic I probably read it in the early 2000s I just can't remember the name of it it would have been about the same time as the aliens Terminator predator thing was going on.

When the film came out, me and my buddies saw it and freaked out. The nam Alien worked without James Cameron calling them bugs and the over used xenomorph title.🤔 Space jockey was transporting the eggs, one got out, he left a warning, crashed and died, thousands years ago. He had no legs, he was the chair, he was payed to transport the cargo, he died..story over.😉👍

I see alot of debating about DHC's version of space jockey not being adapted to the film... if you ask me, im okay with the idea of Ridley's Engineer... tall, gigantic pale of a humanoid, who is the progenitor/creator of the human race, the space suit he wears when he sits at the cockpit reminiscence of the dead space jockey in the 1st film...

in the first ALIEN they said it was like the space jockey GREW OUT OF THE CHAIR....so could they stand....? were they an engineered pilot/part of the ship - which also looks ALIVE, GROWN or ORGANICALLY SHAPED..... NOT the ENGINEERS of PROMETHEUS.... these guys were way bigger....

The sacrificial engineer doesn't make sense unless the Prometheus engineers are a dying colony(round ship), the older engineer had black goo running through head veins, decapitated head re-activates black goo, Ai Ash in Alien Romulus uses black goo to help human colonist against disease, famine and environment resulting in The Offspring.

It's nice that the Prometheus crew flew all that way to find out about the origin for humans. It's disappointing as a movie goer and a fan of the franchise to see them go fly all way just to find, well, bigger humans. Can it not just be about aliens and THE Aliens without throwing mankind to the mix? Like what the first movie had accomplished.

This is why I like the older comics. The original Jockey concept is far more creepy & weird with them looking like towering creatures that could reach a couple of stories in height. Prometheus was completely incompatible with the original vision. The posture & proportions weren’t even close. I don’t consider Prometheus or Covenant to be canon.

The Nostromo was a tugboat pulling a space refinery carrying mineral ore headed for earth. Perhaps the derelict ship found on LV426 was also something similar and it was carrying the xenomorph eggs back to the space jockey’s homeworld where the hatched facehugger was used with another organism to produce the xenomorph where they were utilized in constructing large structures such as the spaceship hull and more of the egg storage and incubation chambers from the xenomorph excretions just the way bees construct their honeycombs and beehives.

Not sure how old is this comic suppose to be, unless as a fan fic comic trying to grasp the forgotten idea of the space jockey from the first Alien film. The concept seem fascinating and expand even further into this universe. It could also ensure to answer why the Engineers seem to have similar technical supremacy of this species, by making them the creators of the Engineers. Its possible the derelict ship was discovered by some space faring engineers and took samples of the jockey corpse, some black goo stuffs and xeno eggs...and studied the structure/technology of the ship.

The idea of the Alien just being this locust parasite species and the space jockeys just being a mysterious, hapless victim is way more interesting that wrapping a 1970s "ancient astronauts - Chariots of the Gods" mythology around it. The more you explain the monster or give the mysterious parts a convoluted backstory, the less interesting they are. The mystery is what made it cool
