A further thought about the snow and the very cold temperature .... I don't think the temperature is affecting your dish. If you watch your own video carefully when you go to remove the snow on the lower edge, it is actually frozen to the lip of the dish. Once you loosened that edge, the rest of the snow slid off, meaning it was thawing from the dish. If you feel all around the dish, it's a pretty consistent "warm" all over. The heat is created (perhaps by default?) by the electronics. As an aside, I put an amp meter on mine for a day and it draws a pretty average 100 watts +/-.

I paid my deposit to be put on the list to be one of the first in my area (SW Virginia) to receive and test Starlink. My biggest concern is, will there be any guaranteed free replacements parts for any of the equipment if it goes bad?

Starlink is £439 for the kit, £52 for the shipping and £89/month in Cornwall, UK for 50~150mbps.... Fibre is £23.50/month for 80mbps. As cool as it is it’s not worth it here. Hope the price comes down in future.

As awesome as this is, I'm going to wait until they make a more "portable" option for full-time RV use. I'd like to use it at home and pack it up and use it while camping. This looks too difficult to move around. I may be waiting a long time, but it's not quite for me yet. EDIT: screw it, I just signed up. I can put all the wiring in the trailer and beam the Internet into the house through wireless. I'll make it work. 2nd EDIT: Well, apparently that isn't going to work. It has to be used at the service address based on your cell signal. I requested a refund. :(
@BeforeYouBuyReview3 жыл бұрын
Smart move. Do what’s right for you. My guess is you won’t be waiting super long. If they can make it more portable then it’s major game changer territory
@Mumblix3 жыл бұрын
@@BeforeYouBuyReview The plan is to have the dish in the yard with all the cabling and router in the trailer hooked up to "shore power" beaming the wifi into the house. On the go, I'll just toss in the dish and use an inverter for power. We're slated to get it in "Mid to Late 2021". I can wait till then. Hopefully it's here by Summer. Thanks for the video.
@BeforeYouBuyReview3 жыл бұрын
Awesome idea! What will you use for the wireless bridge? Assuming you don’t have to go too far but I’ve use UniFi products for that in the past and they work great. If short distance, even a standard APs would be fine. Fingers crossed you can have in time for camping this summer 🤞⛺️

@@BeforeYouBuyReview Actually, last week I bought a second hand wifi extender to get the house signal into the trailer. In the future, it'll be backwards, extending the signal from the trailer into the house.

I understand that’s not the sole purpose. I’ve read multiple reports saying they are sending extra power to melt snow. Other reports say it’s the antenna array that cause the heat.

sure it's a "feature" it has nothing at all to do with the radiation heat produced by the phased array

I’ve honestly heard from some it’s a feature and some people say it’s just the process of it happening. It wouldn’t surprise me one bit if it’s just the heat output from the technology at work.
