Internet from SpaceX Satellites is finally here for us. SpaceX Starlink showed up and we were excited to set it up. For anyone in rural areas - especially in the mountains or northern states like Iowa, North Dakota, Montana ... this is game changer!
We go through the initial unboxing - it's a massive box with the lid open! The hardware inside is all extremely high quality. I've worked in the IT Industry for 14+ years, and I can honestly say it's rare to see quality cables and hardware like this. It's definitely built to be solid and last. I wish the cable was not attached the satellite dish, but I also understand and to prevent people running their own cables which could potentially cause problems if it's too long or cheap.
Similarly to my Google Wifi, I love how easy the Starlink Internet is to setup. If you know how to launch and app and open wireless settings then you know everything you need to. That's impressive! Again, that will help them have fewer calls troubleshooting products, thus keeping more resources into providing better service we hope!
Starlink is growing rapidly. At the time of this recording they just sent up another 60 satellites on a Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station. SpaceX has more than 1,000 satellites now in the Starlink constellation. It wants to have 1,584 by the end of the year and have global coverage with over 4,400! The FCC (Federal Communications Commission) has authorized SpaceX to have 12,000 in operation!! SpaceX is using their re-usable rockets to make sure it's more affordable for them to keep launching more satellites. All part of Elon Musks master plan.

What connector is it using for the antenna ? And what other optional routers are available that are comparable that will work with the star link. Due to it using the shield of network cable and POE injector i usually like sticking with ubiquity. What about adding a wireless access point I like sticking with ubiquity ? How can you access the star link router what IP address is needed. What is the username and password on the default settings. Like to be able to change some of the names that are logged in it comes up with a bunch of weird numbers.
@BeforeYouBuyReview
@BeforeYouBuyReview 3 жыл бұрын
RJ45 in from satellite into PoE injector. I’ll be testing other routers. I heard any will work. You can use the AUX ports to plug into your home network. Again, plan on testing more. The default setting it just auto connects via the app, so no un/pw needed. Connect to WiFi default then open app and you should be good

I pre ordered my unit and was wondering about the operating temperatures of the dish. I've noticed in another video that the temperatures, from what the guy says, are between -22f & 104f. I live in Arizona and it gets hotter then that here. Curious if the have a different solution?
@BeforeYouBuyReview
@BeforeYouBuyReview 3 жыл бұрын
Seemed to work here below -22F fine, but with heat that’s a great question. It could cause it to heat up too much. We only get a few weeks of 100+ here in the summer and I won’t be able to get you the data until at least July. Sorry. I’ll let you know if I hear otherwise

Ughhh-No. They have to offer it in your area. Go to starlink.com and check if offered. If not, sign up. They will send you and email to pre-order when they are coming to the area. Probably looking at a 6 to 8 month wait after pre-ordering. $99 to pre-order then $495 for equipment when shipped (less the $99). Then $99 per month. At least that’s what happened to me. I got on list 10/29/20, received email to pre-order 2/23/21, now the wait........good luck.

A further thought about the snow and the very cold temperature .... I don't think the temperature is affecting your dish. If you watch your own video carefully when you go to remove the snow on the lower edge, it is actually frozen to the lip of the dish. Once you loosened that edge, the rest of the snow slid off, meaning it was thawing from the dish. If you feel all around the dish, it's a pretty consistent "warm" all over. The heat is created (perhaps by default?) by the electronics. As an aside, I put an amp meter on mine for a day and it draws a pretty average 100 watts +/-.

Do you think the speed will increase more and more as we have more satellites connected? Is only useful in rural areas? How about Urban? Did you pay for the hardware or is it just $99 per month. Also, can the satellite be installed in certain direction like Direct TV dish or anywhere and at any altitude is good?
@BeforeYouBuyReview

We will have to see on the speed. For sure reliability and capacity, but will also have more end points. Useful in any location that can get coverage and has slower internet speeds. Great for consumers if nothing else. The app will help you find the location with best coverage. The motor in the unit will adjust the angle automatically. The unit was almost $600

That is my holdup too! Any chance you could plug the starlink into a kill-o-watt meter and see how much power it REALLY draws during normal use. I've heard its a 90w adapter. 90w 24/7 would be about 2kw of power a day. Some folks like myself that are looking for 'rural' internet are also off grid solar. So 2kw a day rain or shine is a bit much to tack on. I just got an email that they are accepting users in my area... so ready to buy but power is a concern. lol.

They are gradually increasing the coverage. At this moment they are taking orders from 6 countries. They have also sent requests to national telecom authorities of many countries for the service launch permission. In parallel they are launching starlink satellites twice a month on average with 60 satellites in a batch and they have plan to complete the phase one with 12000 satellites in 4-5 years. Probably in 2 years they will be able to start providing service worldwide.
