To someone like me, who perceives Elvis has having existed so long ago when I was a child, its surreal to think there are still countless people in and around the Memphis or Tupelo area who know Elvis not just as an international superstar, but also as just a guy in the neighborhood. There must be thousands first hand people who have stories of the day to day events of him.

Elvis took care of others by giving them things that could help them. Its amazing to see how he cared for people. Sounds like he thought a lot of that pharmacist to give him something like that revolver. I think he cared about him and qhat the pharmacist thought of him that when he started abusing, he would purchase from a different Pharmacy or heard about a shaddy Pharmacy that he could easily obtain a lot of medications. Thanks for sharing!

I love that you tell the story of people who were around Elvis that aren't just the Memphis Mafia. Those guys are all interesting in their own right, but these "regular people," he interacted with not only prove that Elvis wasn't a total hermit, they give him a little bit more humanity than his own crew gave him. Still funny that those people describe him similarly though. Proof that Elvis really was a bigger than life character.

I've heard most of the people that knew Elivs personally say what a kind heart Elivs really had . I believe that comes from his up bringing too . You're an awesome guy Billy. Love you and the stories. We've always heard that Elvis really was both a man's man and gentleman and how big Elvis was on MANNERS and your stories certainly show that. In terms of manners, and I forget who it was that told the story, but I'm trying to remember. But one of the guys...Yes, it was Lamar Fike who told me this as I became a member of the Honorary Memphis Mafia Fan Club and we used to talk. I used to talk to Marty Lacker a lot too. But Lamar said Elvis could curse a blue streak, but wouldn't tolerate anyone cursing in front of the ladies. But Lamar had let the F word rip and there were some women around and Elvis turned and gave Lamar a burning stare. And Lamar being Lamar, instead of shutting up, started protesting and saying something to the effect of "you cuss all the time," which was the wrong thing to do. As Elvis said, "Ladies will you excuse us," or something to that effect and Lamar said Elvis took him by the arm and led him through some kind of swinging doors at Graceland. Not really sure what he means by swinging doors but I have been to Graceland. However, Elvis took him into an adjoining room and told him "Lard ass" (exact phrase Lamar used) "don't you know there's a MAN in "MANNERS." There was a little more to it, but I can't remember, and Lamar said that was just the way he and Elvis talked to each other, ribbing each other if you will, and not really being angry, angry.
@LoriCLove716 жыл бұрын
Christopher Tyler ~ Thank you so much for sharing your story about one of your conversations with Lamar Fike!!! You made me literally laugh out loud about the part where Elvis liked to pick on the guys & him calling Lamar a "lard ass" was hilarious!!! And Elvis was so right, there actually IS a man in manners, ha ha, I never even thought of that!!! Thanks Elvis, when someone gets way out of line, I will remember to tell them that very same thing!!!

Great video as always. Have you ever heard of Sara Erwin? She wrote a book entitled,,"Over The Fence." Her home adjoins the Graceland yard at the northeastern corner and she knew Elvis. She has some very interesting stories to tell. I'm not certain if she's still living. I believe she would be about 77 now. A few years back, I read that she was shot by two intruders in her home, but I think she recovered. She would make a great interview for you.
