Thanks Lance for the help and expert advice. A great tutorial video. Counting down the days for when my ducks are in a row (I have just borrowed your phrase) and I can start my TEA20. I just can't get enough of these videos. 👍👍👍👍

Good job Lance. Is sealant needed with copper gaskets for wet liners. Does it only set when when it is in contact with water.
@BundyBearsShed Жыл бұрын
I spray both sides of the gasket with Hylomar, it does seem to help but you certainly need to re tension it after a run.

@@BundyBearsShed sorry I meant the copper rings below the liner..not the head.. sorry I didn’t explain it very well..I see that you use an anaerobic sealant, but an engine machinist here in Italy said just use the copper gasket rings and they will squash down and seal....I’d rather use a sealant and have no water leak, but .. anyway you should start charging a consultancy fee.. its hard to find knowledgeable people today in this plastic world .

@@anna-alchimiadelcuore5240 yes use the sealant for sure, better to be safe.

Lance, have you ever seen the liners corroded to the point where they let coolant into the cylinder? Do I presume the OEM liners were cast iron and what material are the after market liners made of please? Great video series mate and thanks for the education. Regards, Ron
@BundyBearsShed3 жыл бұрын
Yes I have, I believe the new ones would be cast iron as well. The green coolant seems to stop the electrolysis reasonably well though.

G’day I have a 1950 tea, I purchased the bare co engine kit that converts the engine to 85 mm bores, my liner heights with gaskets fitted are 8 to 9 thou (copper gasket) I feel this is a bit excessive, gaskets are 20 thou. What do u think? Cheers
@BundyBearsShed3 жыл бұрын
Yes too high I think, These are old and I have found some have had the blocks machined at some stage. Check after compressing a gasket too things might change and check there is no junk fell in onto the gaskets.

When I removed the cylinder head of my TED we found two 8 shaped gaskets on top of the liners under the head gasket because the liners were sitting too deep. There were the 2 gaskets under the liners as well. I ordered new liners and pistons but they are equal to the old liners and will also sit too deep into the block. What is the best solution to solve this ? Use 4 bottom gaskets instead of only 2 or are thicker gaskets available ? I have those copper gaskets here 0.5mm thick. Or should the top of the block be faced ? No idea why the liners slip too deep into the block though.
@BundyBearsShed3 жыл бұрын
Best solution is to deck the block and if needed machine the counter bores, It could get a little expensive.

My 80 mm bore TEA needs another pair of liner gaskets. The kit from Agriline included one set of these, but a trial fit prior installation made up the need for a extra set. The problem is, they are hard to get hold of. Do you have 80 mm gaskets loose? Or if not - some people modify the 85 mm gaskets to fit. What on earth should I do?
@BundyBearsShed3 жыл бұрын
If they are hard to find modifying the 85mm should be fine I believe. They did have paper ones originally so you may be able to cut some easier.
@pvfos3 жыл бұрын
@@BundyBearsShed The original ones were definitely of paper, so paper and aviation cement will be enough to withstand the compression over time?

Put that gauge back in the tool box, you will find your fingers are the best gauge...!
