On a slightly different subject - the Fordson Serial Number and production changes document is a winner. Documents of this type for any manufacturer are invaluable to the restoration community.

A Video suggestion to assist the restoration community - prior to dismantling or final engine assembly, leave the sump and rocker cover off and pressure test the cooling system. We use clean water with some red food dye for ease of identification. This test allows a check of the entire cooling system for leaks and they can be rectified prior to starting the engine. Drain the test fluid after testing and replace with pre-mix coolant.
@BundyBearsShed4 жыл бұрын
It will be tested on assembly but we knew the engine was toast so no need then.

Sir, first I want to say thank you for your videos. I have a question and I apologize in advance for my ignorance on the subject, my ferguson is a 1950 with the z120 petrol with head casting z120-601. Does the head have valve oil seals separate from the valve guides or just the guides? I'm going to be doing a valve job and putting a parts list together but can't find any info on that. Thanks again
@BundyBearsShed Жыл бұрын
We dont have the Continental engine here in Australia but the Standard Motor Company engines we have here have a chamfer on the top of the valve guide and no seal. I cant really say for your engine .

I need some help up here in the US. We don't see many tea's up here. Are you converting the valve spring retainers to a solid style. Or can you find the rotator style??
@BundyBearsShed5 ай бұрын
I think mine just had the old style so I left it like that.

Thank you Lance for the great videos on the rebuild of the TEA20 engine. I to have found that the white metal plug has failed dropping all the coolant in to the sump. I all so found the rockers worn. I can't find new one any where on your site. Can i file them flat again? Or will i just leave them as is? Are the valve guides easy to replace?
@BundyBearsShed4 жыл бұрын
I fil;e them flat but they have a curve so try and follow thw old shape .

Hi Lance,Would that white metal plug be the same on a TEF 20? I have water getting into the sump,I will be putting new pistons and liners as well, Not the easiest of engines to work on as Conrad’s won’t go through the liners,and pistons won’t clear the crank shaft,as you know.
@BundyBearsShed4 жыл бұрын
Im not sure on the TEF but it is on the diesel 35 so I thing it probably could be.

What size would that plug be for Americans?
@BundyBearsShed Жыл бұрын
Instead of BSP look at NPT there could be 1tpi difference.
@anair703 жыл бұрын
Could the white plug be some kind of sacrificial anode? So corrosion attacks there first and saves the other components? Great video.
@BundyBearsShed3 жыл бұрын
I dont really think so as it is not an available service item and with water in the oil it could do a lot of damage.

Lance, I have 2 questions, 1, do you need to use flash Lube, 'valve protector' with petrol in these engines now and 2, if you have inserted valve seats do you still have to use flash lube or can you get away with using just petrol because I have had people tell me once you put harden valve seats in you don't need it ?
@BundyBearsShed4 жыл бұрын
I never use flash lube anyhow, the new seats here will be hard but with the limited use my tractors get I never felt I needed it. Others run it though but I always use premium unleaded fuel not the cheap stuff and no kerosine at all.
@BleuJurassic4 жыл бұрын
the so called freeze plugs are there to clean the sand core out thats all if you see a frozen engine they never help the block
@BundyBearsShed4 жыл бұрын
We dont get frozen ones down here,

Seems you could use a plug with an internal hex and eliminate the Rocker cover issue.

Hey Lance, so with the hardened valve seats, does that mean you will be running it on unleaded?
@BundyBearsShed3 жыл бұрын
No I find it doesnt seem to make much difference but in saying that this tractor doesnt work for its keep either it is just a toy.

A lot will bolt straight up but an adapter plate might be needed. On the Modified Ferguson facebook page they have some good info from others that have done similar.

@ahuman68254 жыл бұрын
It's a bolt and I believe it blanks off an oil gallery
@BundyBearsShed4 жыл бұрын
It is where they drilled the oil gallery to the rockers. I should check and re seal that too I suppose.
