That was astoundingly good. You either dig it or you don't. A God given talent that's bestowed upon us for this lifetime. It's wonderful that all of these Quintet guys made use of the opportunity allowed them. Wynton M?, Freddie H?, Woody Shaw?, Clark Terry?, Don Fagerquist?, Conte Candoli?. They all lean to their own personal styles and they favor notes differently. And I love all those trumpet guys. I play piano and write music. I don't expect ever to play like Dan Nimmer here. There already is a Dan Nimmer and he's wonderfully good. I'll choose my own path to work things out, but Dan here makes me want to pursue what makes me happy in the world of music. The value of one's talent should not be only in just showing others how accomplished we are. But rather, that talent may also allow us the opportunity to work at and display how grateful we are for that talent. I'm happy for all these players here. If I want to hear more down home blues I'll put on some Elmore James or John Lee Hooker.

I love Sparks (but the original version), it's one of my 2 all-time favorite songs from Wynton Marsalis! This version is cool though, and interesting one! :)

1. Wynton Marsalis (trumpet); Walter Blanding (sax); Dan Nimmer (piano); Carlos Henriquez (bass); Ali Jackson (drums) 2. post bop 3.32 bar popular song form 4. Love the quickness of the trumpet as he plays, it just blows my mind. And the same goes for the saxophone. The driving rhythm and tempo is what also interested me.

Mr. Marsalis get rid of that horn! It's cramping your style.
@KaRidder23410 жыл бұрын
That's what I would call "Olympic Jazz": Higher, faster & farer. - Well, what did he tell you about *thee blues*? A whole lot of notes ain't making 'em deeper, got me?
@samuellee75859 жыл бұрын
But what about the sound he's playing with? That all of them are playing with? Is it just the notes or how they actually sound? I feel i derive most of the message from an artist just from their pure sound. Tells me what vibe they are on. I'm genuinely curious, this isn't necc to start a fight, just would like you to elaborate. You get no feeling at all from this? I will say though, I think i know where you are coming from. I've heard many a horn player who is just playing notes, transcribed licks, etc. And the execution isn't bad I suppose, but there is no feeling. This to me is not the case with this particular performance, but to each his own.
