Ministry was the band that helped jumpstart the industrial rock genre in the 80's and 90's... combining metal riffs w/ electronic beats. They were a huge influence on Nine Inch Nails, Rammstein, Filter, Fear Factory, Statix-X, etc. 'Alien' Al Jourgensen (vocals/ guitar/ programming) is the mastermind of Ministry, and he's still making music today. Check out some more Minstry - 'Just one fix' ... 'Stigmata' ... 'Thieves' ... 'N.W.O.' ... 'Senor Peligro' ... 'No W' ... "Let's go" ... 'Lies lies lies' 🤘🤘🔥🔥

One of the best shows I've ever been to was Ministry in 1990. They melted my brain. The entire room was slam dancing. It was just a big, writhing hurricane of bodies. Ministry in concert is a wall of sound that never relents. It just rips you a new one and keeps on moving. Watch the live video for Breathe to really get a feel for it.

I saw them on the 2nd Lollapalooza tour in '92. I ended up right in front of the stage - in the biggest, muddiest, and craziest mosh pit I've ever witnessed. (Good thing I was wearing boots!) They were probably the loudest and most relentless live band I've ever seen - and I saw Slayer, so that's saying something. Great show.🤘

In this episode of Brad & Lex, the intro immediately proves to be jaw dropping and spazzmatic on the Lexometer as she displays a multitude of emotions within quite a compact timeframe. She expresses shock, along with other undiscovered "vibes". Brad seeks an explanation but has to travel further for fulfillment on this fast paced chaotic quest. Lex fights to possess her own soul while her hands try to contain the speed demons within her skull while electrifying guitar shredding and distorted, low and chilling vocals totally take her over until they eventually exit. She will voice her enjoyment of the exercism in which Brad will respond with "ding a ling?"

I remember thinking a little while ago that it was insane that we could see this song on MTV in prime time hours. Before grunge and alternative hit in the early 90s you just wouldn’t see heavy stuff like this on MTV. Metallica wasn’t played outside of things like Headbanger’s Ball. And they weren’t played on regular radio at all. And then the floodgates opened. You still wouldn’t see bands like Carcass or Death in the mainstream but Marilyn Manson, Ministry, and Danzig got played, as long as they had some sort of “alt” credibility. But things just kept changing over the years and now I see all sorts of people liking thrash and old school metal and punk. It’s weird. It just wasn’t acceptable when I was in school and college. But I like seeing people appreciate the heavy as well as pop or hip hop. It’s all good.

During college, I jammed this album in my cd walkman all the time. Once in the cafeteria, I had set my walkman next an El Salvadorian exchange student/friend to get a drink refill. After some small talk, I told her I had to go to my next class. As I was walking, I fired up the walkman and found there was no CD inside. For two weeks I wondered where it went until I met up with her again. She had put my headphones on to see what I was listening to. When Ministry started up, she was so shocked that she took my CD to "save my immortal soul from that devil music". She ended up giving back my cd and to this day, it's still one of my favorite albums.

Nice nice nice! Been waiting for some Ministry here. As others have already mentioned N.W.O. and Just One Fix are also great songs. I saw a few comments here about how loud their shows are. I've unfortunately never seen them but whenever a conversation turns to "the loudest concert" it's usually them in the top spot!

Ministry Rocks! But it's fun to listen to their early 80's sound (synth-pop) as well...it is SO different to this later industrial sound.

There have been references in the past to their label Arista Records wanting With Sympathy to turn Ministry into "the Wham of the United States." I'm guessing Al wasn't too thrilled with that idea.

Killing Joke is a band that influenced a lot of industrial, though they are very hard to pin down with a label. Keep an eye out for them! Most people will say "Eighties" because Nirvana ripped it off, or "The Wait" because Metallica covered it.

Lex you were born at the wrong time - you'd have loved all the early nineties metal and industrial clubs! Guest singer here is Gibby Haynes from the Butthole Surfers - who did their own version too! As stated it's not 'one of their best' but certainly stands out and will always remain one of my faves by them. There's a few you should check out by them, but also check out The Revolting Cocks, who were much better than Ministry IMO - but share some history...

Lex: "I've never met this vibe!" This vibe: "Because you weren't ready until now. Now that we've met, prepare for a whole different experience in music." Industrial Records was a recording label in the mid-late 70s. The bands that primarily recorded there, Throbbing Gristle, Monte Cazazza, SPK, Boyd Rice, Cabaret Voltaire, set a sort of aesthetic for the genre that became dubbed "Industrial". From that, over the course of time, bands like Ministry, KMFDM, Laibach, Front 242, Skinny Puppy and Frontilne Assembly took that aesthetic and developed it into what is now known as Industrial metal, and have been the major influence on bands like Rammstein, NIN, Static-x, Fear Factory, and even that dipshit Marylin Manson. If you are truly committed to music and it's evolution, I personally suggest going all the way back to the beginning and listening to the evolution of this genre. It's a dark, heavy, and beautiful experience. I feel very fortunate to have been on this ride since about the mid 80s. As far as this specific song goes, Gibby Haynes, the vocalist for The Butthole Surfers is (allegedly) drunkenly performing vocals for this track. It was originally just guitarist Mike Scaccia, and drummer Bill Rieflin fuckin' around playing as fast as they could. But, Uncle Al asked Haynes to perform vocals for them. Ultimately resulting in this beast that you just experienced. Sorry for the long-ass comment. I'm a music junkie/nerd and can't help myself.
