Pro tip for the stuck race as an ASE master tech. Using a cutoff wheel at a 45 degree angle put a cut in the race without cutting all the way through. Then grab yourself a chisel and hammer and hammer the chisel into the groove you cut. Because the race is hardened it will crack after a few blows with the hammer and will easily slide off the spindle
@justion3379 ай бұрын
I just said the same thing. It's surprising how easy it cracks through with a few solid hits.

And wear gloves when hitting! got metal in my hand a few times from the bearing shards

You can also score it and run a bead the other side, as weld cools it shrinks and cut the race
@GIZZMOTORSPORTS9 ай бұрын
You want that 40/40 prop valve. The 30/30 will lock up the rear too easily, really bad news if going hard on the brakes. It's extra bad if you're hard braking in a turn. Or even just regular braking in the wet or snow, the back end will want to come around.
@MyWolffy9 ай бұрын
Never had that issue.

@@MyWolffy when you encounter it you’ll never forget. You’d never notice it Sunday driving in the dry. Brake bias is a real thing.

The only difference between all these prop valves is the main spring. I just went through the same thing buying used 4040 prop valves on eBay that were leaking. I bought a 3030, swapped in the 4040 main spring and it’s all good now.
@oat.cortadhoe9 ай бұрын
Common practice at my shop if a race is stuck, I use an angle grinder and cut a slit in the race. One hit from a hammer and chisel in the slit and the race will generally crack into two pieces. You have to be careful to not cut too deep and always wear eye protection. Really the same concept you’re doing with the air hammer but the cut in the race is used as a guide so you don’t slip.

That tool works on VTEC B series, on the non VTEC B motors you have to do the wrench and screwdriver combo move.

What we used to do when I worked at Honda, was use a grinder to cut a notch in the wheel bearing race. Then use a chisel to crack the race. It would slide right off after that.

Def a vote for the Heliograms from me. Split 5-spoke is classic. I appreciate including bits like the struggle with the proportioning valve, because working on real cars, especially old cars, are all about these struggles (components rusted or seized, or just not easily serviceable on the car), not just an engine build on a nice clean bench.

@dln.sweeney9 ай бұрын
@@chaseteter It might help on a loose surface but an AWD converted Civic won't handle like an Evo or anything. I honestly think a well-sorted FWD Civic could turn a faster lap time at most tracks, assuming it isn't hugely struggling to put its power down.

DP was right with the Bluepoint tool, I have the same one and for some reason Honda has 10mm and 12mm rocker arm jam nuts, I think it just depends on the engine. Looks to me like the separate wrench and flat head is much easier to use on those non-VTEC heads. The special tool is only needed on VTEC heads where you can’t get a wrench on the adjuster lock nuts. I bought a set from Harbor Freight’s website way back in 2001, and still use them to this day.
