First G&G. Next SpeedAcademy. My weekend is now complete. Thanks for all the amazing content! I've especially enjoyed this series and the amount of content you guys have made for it. You and G&G have inspired me to finally chase my goals of getting my Miata ready for track fun over the winter. Thanks again! Stay safe and keep up the great work!

Slo mo at 12:52 = 10,000 rpm!!! Gotta love those miss shifts. Yikes
@94tegLSatMSC2 жыл бұрын
All that Type R really needs is a proper dyno tune lowering vtec to around 4-5k and either a 4.9 or 5.1FD. It would really be like an entirely different car and probably drop 2-3 seconds at most tracks.
@georgededopoulos2 жыл бұрын
Curious, how much time do you think the car spends between 4000 and 5600 rpm on a typical lap, and how much more power do you think the car makes on the VTEC lobes in that RPM range?
@jprince32 жыл бұрын
I'm having the most fun I've ever had the track despite being in the slowest car. Wow what a comment that speaks volumes in my opinion. Reminds of leno saying something like sometimes its more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow. So many times I was going to boost my type r but it's just so great as it is . Thanks for the inspiration to keep it pure while making some slight improvements
@chrishuyler35802 жыл бұрын
I waffle back and forth like you. I was surprisingly not the slowest car in that run group in my '85 RX7. It's disappointing to see someone fly by you during a session, but when I caught up to an R32 and got a point by, it made my day. I think I could use a better suspension setup but no immediate plans for power mods.

It's amazing to see both of my favorite racing channels sharing track time. Speed academy and Gears and gasoline are by far the more realistic and close to day to day projects we can find over the internet. Much love from Chile guys, thanks for doing this for a living and sharing it.
@David-nb2bc2 жыл бұрын
Speed Academy should do a endurance race event series. Build an endurance car and come do a series with either Champcar, AER or WRL. That would be so cool and get some real racing without having to wait for point by's.

A freaking Mark VIII on track and I don’t even know what to say. I loved mine as a daily and now I see someone tracking one! If you guys feel crazy and decide to build one for a quick build or serious definitely count me in as someone who’d show up for every video!

That specific MK7 is a very special one, which is why it was making such glorious noises. It was tommyfyeah's DAZA RS3/TTRS 5 cylinder swapped R he recently sold, built by Innovative Motorsports. I'm looking to get my GTI on track soon at Summit Point myself. Currently got some ST XTA coilovers, Eurosport front strut bar and rear hatch brace, and SuperPro rear sway bar and endlinks, with light Momo wheels. Goal is to make it the ultimate daily in terms of being practical, fun on track/touge, and fast enough on the straights.

In regards to understeer / oversteer and high speed corners I have my dc2 set up exactly for that equal front & rear spring rates or slightly stiffer rear w/ rear shock mount locations effect on wheel rate but use spring rates/compression/rebound to dial in the softest stiff you can maintain grip over bumpy surfaces w/ minimal dive/pitch/roll suspension frequency around 15% faster rear & use the sway bars much stiffer rear at least 24mm rear to dial in predictable over steer on entry for low & medium speed corners made more or less aggressive w/ alignment settings depending on drivers experience w/ fwd late braking & lift off oversteer then make the most of the rear wing w/ no front splitter to reduce oversteer but only at higher speeds as the wing starts producing higher downforce to add the stability in medium & high speed corners

Griots garage track spray is the best option for removing track debri & rubber marks after a track day from paint. bug&tar or adhesive remover might work but more elbow grease and most importantly doesn't lift off the paint as well to reduce surface scratches a must for your trackside tool bag. Spray on let soak briefly and then wipe off rotating to fresh side of towel for each section

The 98 Celica SS-III is on par with the type R. toyota left so many parts on the table that could of been used to build a type R specs chassis. It is an overlooked chassis, that nobody knows the potential of it. I'll be finishing mine in the next year or so.

@@tinystar3010 I love my ST185, but it's kind of a different beast with ~600lb more weight than the SS-III; even the ST205 is about ~350 heavier. I've been interested in NA builds for the chassis though. There's a 2GR v6 in a 6th gen... bonkers.
