You guys really should use front shock tower reinforcement plates while using camber plates. E46s have strut tower failure even with the stock top mounts; metal camber plates with stiff springs and dampers will crack them in a few thousand miles.

All this work and you haven't shredded a single tire. I feel like Big-P lost the feel and spirit of a budget drift build back when he wanted to keep the interior. I think you might end up regretting not driving and fine tuning the build after minor changes to get a feel for the car so your skills get better as the capabilities of the car gets better. I know you want to protect your investment and not blow a motor or some suspension bits by doing maintenance but its honestly too much and a bit overkill. It looks like your not having any fun yet and its depressing. But best of luck on the road to finish the build.
@speedacademy5 жыл бұрын
Havent lost the spirit but it's a slippery slope when fixing worn out items because once the engine is out you want to do all the maintenance so that you dont have to worry about later on. If I tried to drift this car when it was somewhat stock it would have been a full mess, broken clutch fork, questionable bearings, worn tie rods would have quickly ended the fun. More importantly my mind frame is that I dont want take a heap car and break it first time out. Im always frustrated when that happens in videos, there's no payoff. Plus, it's winter so it made sense rebuilding all this :)

@@TheSergeiFranco it was a different time. Fixed calipers were usually reserved for the very top sports cars. Unlike today. Despite that, they still functioned quite well.
@TheSergeiFranco5 жыл бұрын
@@jonathanmoga5188 My old 1998 Celica (1993 model) had 4 piston callipers from factory, granted it was top Celica, but it was a Celica after all. Even late `90 Hilux (4-Runner) had 4 piston callipers. The single piston callipers are terrible, as there is a limit in pad shape, the sliders gets stuck causing uneven wear, uneven wear from the pad "walking", because of the shape limitation comes in rotor size limitation, rotor thickness is limited, etc. Since `90 most of Japanese sports cars had at least dual piston floating calliper. Most of top Japanese sports cars had 4 piston callipers and 300+mm x 30+mm rotors. Taken a car with a twin piston and 270mm x 28mm rotor on the track, and having brake fire after 5 laps, just gives insight how terrible are the floating callipers. The 4 Piston and 320x32mm upgrade solved all the braking issues. Having thicker rotor makes a huge difference how much energy it can dissipate.
@jonathanmoga51885 жыл бұрын
@@TheSergeiFranco I agree the stock slider has limitations and is a cost cutting measure. Even the whale of an e90 runs a single piston slider. It wasnt until the f series M cars where they went to a multi piston fixed set up. But braking is a designed as a package. Not just what type of caliper you have. Many variables at play. A stock e46 m3 still out brakes the celica. Stock vs stock. ;) The stock e46 m3 rotors are 325x28 with cooling from the factory so it does a decent job with having the single sliders. But I ditched mine for a fixed solution. The slider set up becomes more of a pain as the calipers age. I have better pad wear, moved my bias a bit rearward(a good thing) and have great pedal feel.
