This week we have a very special video. Ivo gave a full 45 minute seminar at the Somerset New Jersey fishing show in 2010. The topic was Fluke/Flounder fishing.
This video is the entire seminar, and is LOADED with tips after tips after tips of how to fish for Fluke and Flounder. This video has so many tips and tricks in it that we just had to upload the entire thing.
Make sure you have a notepad ready, because you will not want to miss any of the fluke and flounder fishing tips.
As always, good fishin'!

@MrGloomis Flounder also like areas with lots of suspended debris swirling around in the current. If you have access to enter smaller channels or creeks, you will find them there as well. Also, try ares with stained water. Rocky areas are also good. Thanks for your inquiry!

We like to use at least a size 3/0 hook as this will accommodate your bait very nicely and still have a lot of hook gap (Viper Spoon size is SP4). Thanks for writing in and good luck on the water :)

@TheMorin1000 We will be at the Rhode Island Show next year. It is scheduled from March 9 - 11 at the RI convention center in Providence, and we are looking forward to attending and to "talk fishing" with the RI anglers! Thanks for taking time to write to us and until next time good luck and good fishing.

Yes - 7/0 hooks would be a very good size for live lining bunker - just be sure you have plenty of hook gap exposed :)

When it comes to color, the silver based lures will reflect best when fished on bright days or in clear water - where as the gold based lures will work best in dark or stained water, or on cloudy days....under these conditions, gold will out produce silver.

@FishOnFishing GO to our Thundermist Fishing Tips web site and the feature video is how to rig an SP5. Then, on the search bar, you can do a search for SP2 and you will see a rigging video which will give you an idea on how to rig a sandworm or eel. Thanks for writing-in

Glad you enjoyed the seminar and thanks for writing in. Suggest using straight fluorocarbon line, or, you can use braided line with a fluorocarbon leader. The braided line with the fluoro leader (of about 10 feet long) is great while drifting off a boat. All Fluoro is great for your casting from shore. If I had to chose one method, in your case, I would select the braided line with the fluoro leader. You'll love using the Thundermist Lures - they will work great for you!

I once came within a few inches of stepping on either a humongous fluke or a small halibut at the beach, basically it went a few meters out and then a steep dropoff to about 30ft depth, and just on the edge of the dropoff as i was walking outwards, i was about to put my foot down and then a fairly large shape just shrugged out of the sand and took off. I know there are halibut in the area and it seemed too big for a fluke. I guess about 3ft across, 4-5ft long. Nice video as always by the way.

@Mahoney3210 Go with the leader line which you are most comfortable with, as there is no need to go heavier. When it comes to Fluke, a 20 lb leader line is plenty. 30 lb braid will be very thin and you can use the uni-knot to join the braid to your leader line. (we also have a video which gives a demo on how to tie a uni knot). The key is to be sure to use a leader line and fluorocarbon would be best. Thanks for writing in and until next time, good luck and good fishing!

Great seminar, your advice will definatly help me on the water! I noticed that your briefly dicussed what types of line to use and this week i was hoping to purchase an Ocean Master 2000 Casting reel with an Inshore Extreme (Offshore Angler) rod as a combo(along with some thundermist lures). Both going off of boats for fluke, stripers and blues while also casting for stripers off of docks (if i decide to do this concept with the new reel)what type of line would you lead me towards. Thanks again!

Just hook the bunker through the top part of the fish, toward the end of the tail, so you only have enough "meat" to keep your bunker on the hook, but still have a lot of exposed hook gap for hook setting. So you hook should be about 2 or 3 inches away from the actual tail fin, and poke it through the top or that area (not in the middle)

12 - 15 lb test will work well for you and is a good choice. Mono is o.k. to use, but it has a few weaknesses like absorbing water and sunlight which will weaken your line - where as the fluorocarbon, will not react this way and is much more durable. We have some great tips for you on line on our Thundermist Fishing Tips web site. We like fluorocarbon. Also, braid is another option, but if so, you will definitely want to use a fluorocarbon leader. You are going to love salt water fishing!

@thundermistlures Aye, I think it was a halibut. I know a place not far from where I live (southern coast of Norway) called 'Torungen' near the town of Arendal, where people frequently seem to catch halibut. I should go there some time. I assume the same tips apply to them as to fluke? Thanks, and right back at you.

So you would recommend 12-17lbs flurocarbon fishing line as your "go to" for fishing and for fluke flounder as well? I have monofilament on right now but it only cost me $2.50 so if I get rid of it I won't really be losing anything, maybe donate it to someone who wonts to fish but can't afford gear that much. But anyways you would recommend flurocarbon huh? I really like 12-15lbs test line.

Although you can go directly to the T-Turn with your braid, I always prefer to tie the leader line to the braid first and then to the T-Turn etc...

Are you talking about the fishing line or the pound strength? I'm using Trilene Big Game 12lbs monofilament test line. And I'm talkin' about catchin' Redfish, Snook, Fluke Flounder, Trout, & any other shoreline saltwater fish. I get on a boat sometimes but not far out though. The line I have on now has caught some good fish but freshwater though. But I wanna go saltwater though a little more now. My goal is a Redfish! Thank you for your response and have a good day and the team there as well.

Sorry for being worrisome, not sure if you already have a video showing this already. But do you run the braid to the T-Turn and leader line for viper spoon and sinker. Or do you tie leader line to braid then T-Turn and so on?
