@@winnipegbandog My dream guitar was always the perfect Explorer. I found it with Wild Custom Guitars of France - The Biohazard Axe. It not only has the best custom aesthetics I've ever seen, it sounds better than any I've ever heard. It is beyond perfect in every way and is ONE OF A KIND. It was $6000 in 2012. I scored it used for $2200 last year on Reverb. I gave it a chance purchasing online with it because I already bought one of that brand, when I saw it on clearance at a local guitar shop and was blown away by how well it played. I thought my dream guitar was a $8000 Natural Red 1980 Gibson Explorer E2, until I found this. I firmly believe the best guitars out there are built by small companies that have not begun cutting corners. Their guitars are not cheap, but they are beyond amazing. They run from $2000 to $60,000. The $60,000 one is a one-piece guitar that comes with the tree trunk it was cut from, with the cutout forming a custom stand for the guitar. There is no glue or screws in the body, and things like the electronics cavity covers are held by magnets.

Gibson tried to say they owned the "open book" headstock a few years ago! This design dates back to baroque guitars made the early 1630's (at least) from the Gregorio Sellas workshop in Italy. Gibson is an example of "When you can't innovate, litigate".

Goran is building just 9 but very high quality guitars a year yet Gibson percieved it as a threat because it completely blows their product away. 😅 But it's okay for them to be copied by Chibsons because the quality is not better but you know what? Chibson Les Paul's G-String stays in tune because they fixed the design flaw neck tilt that the stubborn Gibson purist refused to change just because it's the (original vintage design): "we won't innovate, live with it- but you can't buiid something much better either, or else".... - Gibson. (the only downside is it will look new forever, so say goodbye to the smashed dragged off the road "Greeny relic" or "vintage" look. and the neck tilt design flaw is already elimated thus the Guitar always stays in tune especially the G-String. The "overpriced" don't. Plus it got the iconic logo. Haha. Why bust your bank on a not so good quality overpriced product when you can have a replica for a fraction of the price.😂

This maker isn't claiming the Flying V is his idea. If anything, it should be considered a derivatives work. Heck you can't even make a parody of a big work on You tube without getting copyright claimed, when parody is protected under copyright laws. There's one about woman's suffrage that's a parody of the song "Bad Romance" by Lady Gaga. Her record producer forced them to take it down. Best thing to do with any Flying V from Gibson is to send it off the top of a skyscraper , see if it flys , when it dont , sue gibson. I like his design , its nice for sure. Couple ideas , put a deep contour below the upper registers so you can more easily reach them. Put another contour where the forearm rest when picking , and a belly contour on the back. The overall look would not change much but it would have less hard edges where it has them now. It would also expose the backside , lighter wood on the face , which would look very cool.

This might be the best thing to happen to him because that design is fcking cool. You can totally see the B2 in it. He should market it as the B2 and if Northrop Grumman sues him too he can put that cease and desist on his wall next to Gibson's. I'm a guitar maker in Tokyo and know a lot of other builders, some of whom have also had C&D letters from Gibson. Within the luthier community, it's hard to find someone who has anything good to say about Gibson - either in terms of the way their company operates, or in terms of the instruments they produce. They represent the worst aspects of corporate greed in the way they launch baseless legal claims off like drunk artillerymen while lowering quality and raising prices on their own stuff. I wouldn't say they make garbage, but most companies do a significantly better job for less money. An Eastman SB59 is way, way better than a Les Paul, for example, and cheaper as well. Good for you for making this video and good on Vicious Guitars from making such a killer instrument!!!

It's a fault built in the patent legal system nearly all over the world - not only in North America. If you own a design (no matter how big your company is) you always have to defend it against every competitor (no matter how small). Otherwise you could set a precedent for a future legal case against a big company. More than once courts did rule that you lose your right to legally defend your design if you hadn't defend it for a longer time against previous infringements. So smaller companies could easily be the victim of this legal system.
@tomnaumann2104Ай бұрын
This is it exactly. Additionally, these disputes are sometimes amicably resolved. I don’t know Gibson’s terms, but there have been instances where small builder A licenses their product from big company B for a fee of one dollar. In this way, company B has legally defended their product (i.e. they did not set a legal precedent for future, more important cases) without harming company A. Sometimes legal stuff is dumb, but it can be resolved easily.

Ok, registered contrarian here. I don't think Gibson feels threatened by 9 guitars a year, they feel threatened because if they let this go, then someone else who can build thousands a year will say "well, you let him do it, so you've lost protected status and now we can do it. Gibson could let it go if the maker was so quiet that Gibson could claim ignorance of his existence, but with such high-profile users, they can't say they didn't notice.

Nothing contrary about stating a fact. If you don't defend your design, you lose the rights to it. The amount of people here that don't comprehend that simple aspect is astonishing. Take a look at Heritage for example. They own the rights to the Les Paul/335/330 designs, because Gibson waited too long to act. Dean, Maybach, Patrick Eggle, Eastman etc all now make near identical instruments. I'm not happy with them trying to monopolize the guitar world, but also understand why they are doing it.
@vintageswiss909622 күн бұрын
@@The9thChord they don't have any rights to the flying V design. It was a patent, not a trademark. Patents run out... Hence why the people that can afford the court case can give the finger to Gibson and build a Les Paul if they want (Dean) or a V (Fender/Jackson)... Gibson doesn't own the rights to any of their guitars... it's called frivolous litigation... and it works when you have deeper pockets.

We have a local builder who makes Nepco Guitars (Des Moines, IA) and their schtick is, "What if Danelectro made a V." So they're V's in that style. Gibson also sent him the cease

The big G truly has a V vendetta to settle. I guess when 'nostalgia' is your biggest selling point, you can't have people confusing your customers.

Hes gonna go from getting sued by Gibson to getting sued by the government lol - in a world where every guitar shape exists, I gotta say, that one is unique and badass

Came for the Gibson dunking, stayed for everything else. I know this comment isn't directly related to the guitar shown, but that guitar sound that you used in the B-roll is absolutely phenomenal. Can you make a video demonstrating just that? I rewound it back to the ten minute mark just to listen to it again. Fucking deadly!

Dam Glenn that’s great playing in my opinion for sure on a Freaking Awesome Guitar .

Screw Gibson. I have 16 guitars. None of them are Gibsons. I will never own one. What an amazing guitar. The nicest guitar in that shape (for the lack of not using a letter) I have ever seen. Bravo!

Dude. I’m a long time fan. And I’m really digging this “format”. So interesting to watch / listen to your big voice mjw-ing (music-justice-warrior-ing). There was always a tinge in your uploafs about this. IE, calling out non-committal, non-artists in our own lives. What you’ve shortcuted as bassists. But, we all know is actually calling out our inner willingness to procrastinate. Seemingly, in mine eyes, this has maybe served as pre-pro to what might be your ultimate, eventual populous format: Loud Vs Crowd Voice Vs Noise Voice Vs Voids …something like that Edit: Would love to watch you read, in the funny voice, injustices bestowed upon regular musician folk’l by the Gibsons and Fenders and SSLs and ad-infinitum - watching you go active-agro on them. I understand, it may be counter to your non disclosures. But, a man, a musician, an artist, can ream, uhm, dream

I'm a stoopid bass playerTM and cant do much with 6 String* and I approve this message!!

NGL: the art deco/dieselpunk aesthetic of that shape kinda looks even cooler than the traditional flying V. As long as Vicious don't get a cease-and-desist from Northrop now...

Rather than sue this guy, Gibson ought to offer him a job as a master builder in their custom shop

I can watch this episode again with a brand snob because no chipmonk voice and I love this fellow luthier .

I was never a huge flying V fan anyway...but I could like this one!
