@@DrMurdercock PTSD is a complete b*****rd. I lost three years to it back in the 1980's. Find a decent therapist that you click with who is local to you so that the obstacles in the way are as small as possible. I lost my whole band, who were my "family", in one hit and it took me a while before I had anyone to convince me to get help. I look back and realise that the "weakness" of needing someone to help me was just a rubbish idea from a rubbish upbringing. I was purposely drinking myself to death because I didn't want to admit to being weak. I beat this and if I can from where I was then you can beat from where you are. Good luck on the journey man.

Blood test and chest x-ray show no cardiac damage. Broken Heart Syndrome (my wife is my rock, but my family doesn’t know the damage I’ve been through) is real, and it sucks. Stay strong and be well!

So this might be a stupid question, but here goes: a while back, I saw a metal band (who shall remain unnamed) at a medium-sized venue in Luxembourg. They sounded out of tune, and I know they're way too good of a band to play an entire set with tuning issues. The only thing I can think of is that they were REALLY loud. Can excessively high volume indoors make shit sound out of tune? It's great to see you back, man. I'm glad you are taking the time to take care of your wife - you've got your priorities straight! Thanks for all your helpful content!
@johnnyadams9812 күн бұрын
You're forgetting temperature/humidity affecting intonation and the neck, causing shifts in string tension. The tuning pegs could also be randomly messed with in a gig bag or a guitar case on occasion. OR the guitar players don't know what a tuner is. In my opinion, the volume doesn't really affect string tension that much (as proven by a bunch of live stadium videos), compared to a bunch of random situations before the gig.
@titans272012 күн бұрын
Honestly I’d be curious to know this too, Metallica always sounds out of tune live and I mean always. Strikes me odd that the biggest metal band of all time has tuning issues, but then again they might just be tuning sharp in case one of the guitars goes flat it’ll still be closer to the proper tuning, after all it’s better to tune sharp than flat it’s much less noticeable and awful sounding, although still not ideal.
@orlock2012 күн бұрын
I believe it's a combination of down tuning, odd tuning, finger placement, intonation, how hard the strings are hit and new strings. One guitarist answered the question, how far out of tune can one get before people start to notice and he said 10 cents which isn't a lot. New strings: Strings have to be stretched because they can frequently go out of tune. New strings might be put on before a gig and the guitarist is stretching the strings while playing the gig. Finger placement: There is one spot where the finger is intonated correctly with the string. Moving the finger away from fret, pushing too hard down on the string or moving the string up and down when hitting it. Hitting the strings with different force can change the pitch. Some guitars are not intonated correctly so it's in tune on the open strings, but once the guitarists pushes down on the string, it's out of tune. The guitarists might be setting their guitars up on the open strings without fixing the intonation.

Greetings from France Glenn! I been watching you for years and you're advices have always helped. This year for 2025 i decided to downsize my rig and gone from a engl fireball 60 to a Harley Benton gpa-100 power amp and my effects pedalboard line 6 pod hd500x amp sim (big bottom) based on i believe a mesa triple rec but cab sims turned off and plugged in to a actual cab. So now i don't have to break my back lifting heavy amp heads and straining my back most of the time, i have come to learn though out the years that you don't need the best gear to have a kickass tone, all it takes is a bit of time to go through and fully understand your gear and change the things that don't sound good with what ever you are using. Parametric EQ settings (can / sometimes) go a long way. but yes speakers have the biggest impact on your sound. I tell this a lot to other musicians but some never seem to agree with me, and i tell them tubes don't have a huge impact on tone either, they just laugh at me, (they must have SUPERHUMANHEARING Bla bla bla), but still, i don't let it get to me and give up arguing. A lot of people after a concert tells me my tone is amazing and others not so much but love to prove people wrong. I hope you're wife is recovering well and i hope you are doing well too. Thank you Glenn for advice throughout the years and for the people who actually want to listen and learn. Take care i hope you see this message!
