More words pronounced with “er”. Interesting. I never knew this until recently when I started watching your videos. You are amazing. No one teaches this, not even in school.

I still have hard time pronouncing it. However, if you make it into a phrasal verb or connect it with other noun, it is alot easier. For example, turn it on would be ‘tur nit on’ so you can separate n from tur. As long as you can pronounce tur, it is now possible to say tur nit instead of turn it. You could also say could you tur neround instead of turn around :) I still struggle to say turn left or right haha. Dont ask me for directions ;)

Hello! Ms. Dunbar. Today I have a question about the pronunciation of the "er" in "term" and "terminal". Is that vowel a long vowel or would it be a short vowel? When I look at the diacritics of each word in a paper dictionary it is a long vowel, but when I listen to an electronic dictionary it sounds like a short vowel to me. Which is correct?
@SpeechModification11 ай бұрын
Hi, the first syllable is stressed in "terminal," so the vowel will be longer than the other vowels in that word. Vowel length is also determined by whether the word is stressed in a sentence, so you will also hear it sound longer in a phrase like "in the terminal" and shorter in the phrase "a terminal illness."

if bird pronounced like berd as you explained what about share and dare words these pronounced with ER vowels like shere where is the difference those two vowels sound er as in care and ə́ː as in bird and word and turn words
@SpeechModification3 жыл бұрын
Hi, sorry, my spelling was probably misleading for you. In bird and sure, it's the sound /ɝ/ which I sometimes spell with letters ER. In care and share, it's the sound /er/, which I spell with "air." You can see more about this in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/apaaaIWMg52plcU
