2:37 machinist here. Starrett forged combination squares are probably the best available at the moment. Brown & Sharpe, old Lufkin, Pratt & Whitney, Moore & Wright, etc. are all also better than Stanley. They are all precise, durable and repeatable. Spi, Fowler, and other “budget” brands are also good choices.

I have an old Brown & Sharpe that I love. I found a deal on the set that included the protractor and centering heads. It has found a home with me.

I found out about the Klein Rapi-Driver from one of my good friends who is a journeyman electrician and was helping me diagnose an electrical issue at my parents house. He was using that for the faceplates and I was intrigued. So I had to get one immediately as I had in fact broken a face plate previously at my house. It’s kind of a niche tool but for the specific tasks it’s meant for it works beautifully.

My impression is that the consensus choice of combination squares is Starrett. I only have a PEC, but am happy with it as well. No experience with Stanley combo squares.

I use a lot of Allen keys with this bend to undo autocashier retaining bolts after removing the lock. Definitely going to look into this to see if they can accommodate the sizes I need.

I've had my reversible tip Klein for years now... and can't live without it. It is hands down the best screwdriver for dealing with electric wall plates and never leaves my bag. Milwaukee has a challenge... Klein has been killing it with all their hand tool offerings as of late.

I believe the secondary angle is set to meet with the pivot point in our wrists. And since everyone's ergonomics are a little different, it's off to say one's better because it fits someone slightly better than the other. And a little drop of oil down the handle makes them spin like tops.

When I was working in the trade I was using the Klein since 1989 so it has been around awhile. Before I found the Klein or Klein produced their driver the journeyman I was working with came from Arizona and a gentleman he worked with there had made custom made a VACO screwdriver and the shaft on his had a "Z" bend in it. It worked really well too.

Sparky here . Had the klein twirly for years, lost my last klein and tried the new red one. So far i feel they are equal, however the red one is much easier to find now by just glancing at my bag

Interesting comparison, thanks. I have three of the Kleins, a small conventional and large and small Phillips, but never got the select tip one you show; I don’t think they made it 20 years ago when I got mine. (So now I’ll have to look for it LOL! Or get this Milwaukee, but I’ve always been partial to the Klein handle…) Craftsman also made them, but I only have the large slot conventional, part no. 41331, because I already had the other profiles in the Klein drivers. It has the same gradual bend as the Milwaukee you show here, but otherwise it’s not as smooth or quiet as the Kleins. It works Ok, just not quite on the same level. It’s subjective, but I know you would feel it, a slight resistance and squeakiness when the handle rotates. Nice looking though. Thanks for another interesting video! 👍

Hey there, my question is not relev to the video but i trust you so i thought i might ask anyway: Do you have a recommendation for an extendable ratchet? I was always snubbing them, but after doing a break job with my neighbor who has one, i was very pleasantly surprised and im considering getting one haha

I use the Klein spinner regularly. The tip falls out a bit too easily in my opinion, but otherwise is a game changer.

I got one of those Klein's for switch plates but found it slips out of the screw too much. Now, if it had a laser etched tip, like some of the Wera's, then that would likely be a winner. I ended up ditching that screwdriver in favor of a laser etched Wera 5.5mm.

I abandoned my Klein spinner years ago in favor of ratcheting screwdrivers or something battery powered. Especially a little 12V Milwaukee paired with a magnetized PB Swiss extension and bit.

So I've been using Klein flush cutters for years and I lost my pair. I went to home Depot to grab a new pair but as you know, Klein signed a deal with Lowe's and therefore I I had to buy Milwaukee flash cutters. The difference between Klein and Milwaukee flush cutters as I can cut wire with Klein flush cutters but I cannot cut wire with Milwaukee flush cutters. The wire I was referring to is plenum jacketed speaker wire.

I like Milwaukee’s forged spring loaded wire stripper pliers better than I’ve like any pair of pliers strippers EVER including klein’s forged version. That being said every other pair of pliers in my bag are either Klein or Knipex the other Milwaukee pliers I have had used are either less comfortable to use compared to Klein or Knipex, not as sharp (if they have cutters) or have too much slop in them. I had a set of Milwaukee screwdrivers when I was an apprentice (I believe it was the bi material handles two generations prior to the acetate handles shown in this video. They worked fine but I upgraded to the Klein and there is a MARKED difference in quality when you start looking at how the tips are machined and hardened. I wore out TWO of those Milwaukee #2 Phillips screwdriver tips before I saw any degradation in fit on my Klein #2 the slotted Kleins are ground in such a way that they just tend to fit every screw almost perfectly somehow. The Milwaukee screwdrivers are not this way. I keep my Milwaukee set at home now in the shed for jobs and repairs around the house and I keep Klein screwdrivers in my bags/boxes that are on my truck for work. I also feel like they do the multi-bit screwdrivers/nut drivers the best and offer the most options to have exactly what you need and nothing you don’t/won’t.

Are they using Phillips on face plates now? I always wished they would. I have a slotted one i got in the 80s. Those were really slick for plates. I dont think i ever used it for anything else. Thanks for the video, always interesting and informative.

Details that matter to me...Handle - Love Klein handles. London pattern with classic black rubber grip. Made in USA - Klein for the win. Availability? Lowes vs Home Depot. Milwaukee wins that one for now, but Lowes is finally starting to step up their game with better tool brands. I own the Klein already....so it gets the nod from me! ;-)
