Thanks for doing this series. I have four AR637T receivers but haven't been able to do much with them due all of the Kung Flu restrictions. I didn't know that you could assign a channel for each control. All your hard work is greatly appreciated.👍

Great set of videos. Wish I had found them prior to tackling the AR637T. To me a digital systems engineer with over 50yrs of experience , the receiver is overly complex. Again, thanks for video series. I helped...I think.

Hello Dave, James here in Wales uk. We’ve exchanged comments before when I was using your other excellent series to set up the AR636. I used your excellent videos recently to set up an AR 637T in my new Addiction X, linked to a DX8G2. It all works beautifully and I just took the plane out to fly its maiden flights and it all went very well. In safe the plane is on rails! In as3x it’s very predictable for the simple simple aerobatics I’ve tried so far, loops and rolls. I’ve got it running on 50% rate to start with because of the very large flying surfaces. I’ve set the gains to (max) Roll 60, Pitch 70, Yaw 80, because I found these worked well on a foam Crack Yak, which in many ways is a similar plane. I’ve got the R nob at 50% so I’m getting about half these gains at the moment. I was wondering how the amount of as3x gain effects safe? I can turn off all the as3x gain with the r nob turned to zero, but the safe still seems to work the same, (on the bench). What’s your opinion! The AS3X Gains don’t have a huge effect on SAFE operations because the SAFE is trying to either self level or meet a specific angle demand you’re asking for. Now what will have an effect on SAFE is your rates. Say you have an angle limit of 60 degrees in place. If, while on SAFE, you have your plane in Low Rates at 50% rates, the stick in SAFE isn’t controlling deflection, it is controlling the angle you’re asking for. So at 50% rates in SAFE you’re only getting 50% of the demanded angle. So rather than and angle demand of 60 degrees you’re cutting it to 30 degrees. So any time you’re in SAFE mode, you really always want to be at 100% rates. Just something to think about.

Great series brother I heard you say you can install safe select can you please explain how . I’ve only been able to set up the safe on each flight mode I would love to know how to put it on a separate button like the rest of my planes. Thank you👍🏽

If you watch part 10 here kzbin.info/www/bejne/ipXMppSDichljac follow along with the Panic setup. The channel you’re using to activate panic would be where you would assign the button you want to activate panic mode, and the the panic flight mode is the mode you have setup for SAFE. Then, in part 11 it discusses how to assign a Panic button for each flight mode. So in the end, you only have SAFE on one flight mode, and for your others the Panic button is effectively activating the SAFE flight mode only while you have the button pressed. Once you let it go, it goes back to normal.

Great Video! Sooo Helpful! Question: All 3 sliders work on my NX10 just like the video.🎉🎉🎉 But they only adjust if your in safe mode. if I switch out of safe then the knobs don’t work. I also have the AS3X on switch A and Safe on Switch H. They will adjust with AS3X on or off but the safe switch has to be on or they will not adjust. I’m thought they would adjust as long as my as3x switch was on which is not the case. thx for your help.

Great videos. Really useful. My problem is that having set up (on AR637T) my vario I cannot seem to be able get the audible tones for altitude changes. Any ideas would be helpful.

Hi, I wonder if you can help please? How can you set up Throttle Cut, Failsafe and slow running of the ic engine in such a way that throttle cut stops the engine, failsafe sets it to idle and slow running to as it says, slow running. I can’t seem to separate throttle cut and fail safe. I am using iX20 with AR637t. Many thanks. David

I set up my AR637T and everything is great. I set up 5 flight modes using switch B and switch G. To get flight mode 4 and 5 switch B has to be set to flight mode 2 (value 0) then flight modes 4 and 5 will work off switch G. Is this the correct set up?

Thanks for the helpful video. I am not sure why you preset all the gains to 100%? Is this to induce oscillation and then use the sliders to back off for a smoother flight? Would leaving the factory setting gain values accomplish the same thing, only you would need to adjust the sliders in the positive and negative direction to first induce an oscillation and then reduce the values for smoothing out the flight? Also, Spectrum should link your video series because it is more helpful than their set of instructions.

@MWall711, thanks! To answer your question, when I am doing adjustable gains, I set them to 100% so I have the full range of gains available in my adjustment curve. So I’ll take off with all the adjustments at zero gain, trim the plane, and start adjusting the gains until I get oscillation, then back it off. When I land the plane, I just have the receiver set my gains to fixed and you’re done all in one flight. The problem with leaving the default values in, which actually work well for a lot of planes, when you set them up as adjustable the highest value you can set is the starting value, so if the fixed gain value is 60% thats all you’re ever going to get. Setting everything at 100% out of the gate gets me a one flight and done approach rather than messing with multiple flights and tweaking every time.

Dear Air Marshall I have an ix20 Tx and an 637T Rx. I went through your Part12 Advanced Gain Adjustment program and I think I have missed something. The slides and knob were set up as you suggested. The roll and yaw channel responded as they should however I had to leave the pitch slide at 100%. If I tried to reduce the gain using the pitch slide it also reduced the roll and yaw authority making the aircraft unresponsive. What have I done wrong. Your help would be greatly appreciated. Air Marshall sir. I have an AR 630 receiver I am trying to program safe and as3x into it for a FMS TROJAN T 28. On a dx6 transmitter , when I go into forward programming it tells me I need an update and I can find no up dates for it on the spectrum web page where I have transmitter registered . Am I missing something ? Any suggestion would be appreciated . Thanks

Boss223 the updates should be on the Spektrum website. You need to log into your My Spektrum account. Next to your Transmitter you should see some buttons you can click regarding updates. The latest version is now 2.07.

Hey Dave, Went through the whole series but somethin aint right, im using a DX8 G2, AR637T in an Eflite Conscendo Evo PNP- In FM1 on Switch F my Auto level seems to be active but with a left roll attitude and when i put the plane one its side the ailerons go level, this is the same for FM1, FM2, FM3 but not FM4 and FM 5, Also self level/panic seems to be constantly active in all those modes I dont seem to have and on/off for that, the AS3X doesnt seem to be active even after throttling above 25%, and what are FM4 and FM5 for, they dont seem to be for anything? please help, to afraid to fly like that!

Sounds like the orientation of the receiver may be set incorrectly. The gains, if set to adjustable on the knob, make sure the knob is turned all the way clockwise to see the AS3X movement. Or, set the gains to fixed. You don’t need to use 5 flight modes. If all you need is three, then only assign 3 flight modes. A lot of this series is showing the full capability, always keep in mind you don’t need to do everything, only what you need.

Hey man, thanks for the reply, so now ive set the model to have 4 fm’s, normal, as3x, and safe, all with panic act, panic is set to fm4 on switch H(does that sound good), still having couple issues, 1: when I switch on panic the ailerons go into a right turn and when I place the model on its side they go level, I presumed rx orientation but I believe I have it correct, 2: in safe for just angle limits without self level unless i switch H(fm4) what do i set safemode to envelope or selflevel/angle dem, when i set self level the ailerons go into that turn state I mentioned and in envelope i can turn ailerons fully right but when turning left it does an inverted controll(to the right instead of left) but very small movement, so confused lol

HELP PLEASE -: I have installed an ar637T receiver. The receiver is correctly aligned etc. AS3X won’t activate but SAFE does. In forward programming Flight modes. It shows AS3X - ACT I have advanced the throttle switch but still won’t activate. Please point me in the right direction 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

A couple of things to check: 1) have you run the throttle past 25%, AS3X does not activate until the throttle is advanced past 25% 2) Do you have the AS3X gains set to fixed or variable? 3) Do you have a knob or slider set up for AS3X gains? 4) If you do have a knob or slider assigned to AS3X Gains, do you have the knob turned all the way down? This would effectively set the gains to zero and AS3X won’t do anything.

Hi there Dave; some advice please. I have installed an AR 637T into a multiplex heron 2.4 m soarer. Can you advise best AS3X gains and safe gains settings for this type of model. In Safe she feels very lazy on the sticks even in high rates. Many thanks. Warren Massey South Africa

Hi Warren, as with any airframe the unique characteristics make it impossible for me to know what gain settings will work right for you. With that said, if you are specifically feeling like you aren’t getting the response you want in SAFE mode, try bumping up the SAFE gains by 10-15% and give it another shot. The safe gains have a direct impact on how responsive the control surfaces are to stick input when the receiver is in SAFE mode. As for AS3X I would try out the default gain settings and adjust from there.

@@TheRCAirMarshall Dave I have watched your series but will go through again. When I open the AS3x programmer app, I hit the blue tooth connection but it just goes round and round and won’t connect. However with the Spektrum App it connects immediately but says connected to transmitter. 🙃 but the Bluetooth donegal is in the receiver. Regards _ Warren

Odd... Not sure what the issue is to be honest. I don’t have those issues when I connect via Bluetooth.
