Man I have not raced or been into R/C for quite a while but starting to get interested again. Back in the day building the stock thrust assembly that had you putting tiny individual steel balls in-between two flat washers was not fun.
@jaymead1146 Жыл бұрын
Question. Is the theory that the tighter you make that center screw, the slower the diff? Is that for tuning?

Any chance of a 6.4 gear diff build?
@craigjones28544 жыл бұрын
Not bad. But I go a step further Spencer. Stuff I figured out. I use calipers and check each ball. To get a perfect match. Then I polish the diff rings my self for smoothness. For grease I use a Teflon grease my dad used at Delta air lines. Its engineered for jet engines. My diffs will feel perfectly smooth for weeks to months.
@westrup1734 жыл бұрын

Hey Spencer I know this is an older video but hopefully you’ll still see this. I run an XT2 in ST High Grip Glued Dirt Indoor. Just curious when I go to rebuild my diff next weekend. Would it have any benefit to using ceramic balls instead of carbide?

Hey Spencer, great videos I really enjoy watching them. One question that I do have is do you put grease on the gear faces? The associated manual shows greasing the gears but I’m not sure if that something that you do? Thank you.

Would u use ceramic balls in the diff gear or not? And what other types of grease will work for the thrust part? I don't have a regular/conventional black grease but I do have clear (stealth) grease, red grease (valvoline/chrysler premium and lucas red), black graphite grease (hudy), white gear grease (protek friction fighter), and blue grease (progek premium blue o ring)

Everytime i build my diff it feels crunchy to me. Is it supposed to be smooth like a gear diff with no friction at all? Mine are not. I have used ae balls and schelle balls. Same outcome.
@TTMOTO8884 жыл бұрын
Might be you've over tightened the screw? You can try backing it off 1/8th turn until its smooth
@jeffbryner53554 жыл бұрын
@@TTMOTO888 i do it like the ae manual says. All the way down then back it a 1/8 off. Its crunchy at that point. If i loosen it to where its not it will bark under power once installed in the tranny. I have also tried breaking it in by turning the throttle up in the radio just to get it to move and stick a screw driver in the outdrive and let oneside spin at a time for a few minutes a side but still crunchy. Nothing smooth like a gear diff. It feel almost like u would have a bad ball bearing
@TTMOTO8884 жыл бұрын
@@jeffbryner5355 - I've done it the same way in the past. Crunchy diff is all I get. You might like to try the Losi way. Theres a video on how they do it, just tightening it enough so as not to slip then break in the diff on the table then retighten as needed
@jeffbryner53554 жыл бұрын
@@TTMOTO888 ok awesome. Thanks for the info. I just pulled mine out of my sc6 to replace it with a gear diff and it felt like rocks were in there lol. I will check it out when i get a rebuild kit
@NebraskaDownHiller4 жыл бұрын
Don’t tight the diff all the way down, that is probably flat spotting the ring or balls. Break it in first before final tension adjustments. Watch some videos on the process.

So nothing prevents this diff from just spinning inside the outputs outside of friction on the balls? Why balls instead of roller bearings? Why not have spider gears between the outputs so you can run the diff looser without worrying about it not transferring enough torque.
