I believe Aunt May also found out about Peter’s secret identity. When she’s moving out she tells Peter that she threw away his “old comic books”. Peter acts shocked and immediately after that she gives him the hero speech (beautiful by the way) I believe those old “comic books” were actually Peter’s notebooks, in were he brainstormed the Spider-Man suit design, aunt May saw them and realized the true identity of his nephew. Again *Peter acts shocked and immediately after that she gives him the hero speech* (this also happened after the fight together against Doc Oc in the bank) She definitely knows, at least in my head that’s canon lol

I understand the frustration with spidey losing his powers but I think it’s an essential part of the story and I’d even go a step further and say it makes perfect sense in the real world because if you are suffering from any sort of depression, you won’t be at you’re best whenever you need to rise to the occasion and I think that’s what Sam raimi is trying to communicate through that.

What's interesting for Spider-Man losing his powers, I saw Film Theory delve into that and he believed that Peter is dealing with PTSD which led to him trying to balance his life and losing his powers. After he gave up being Spider-Man, he focused on trying to give himself some self therapy until he was able to put himself back together and be Spider-Man again.

When I saw this movie as a kid I didn’t really love that the tentacles talked to Doc Ock. But now watching it back as an adult I appreciate it a lot more. It’s not literal mind control or anything like that- the tentacles are basically just an extension of Otto’s ego and his unwillingness to let go of his dream. He’s such a well fleshed out character.

To me, the most definitive Spider-Man movie ever made. In my honest opinion, no Spider-Man movie after would be on the same level as SM2 (Yes, not even Into the Spider-Verse). Everything about this movie is damn near perfect. The themes, the story, the characters, the cinematography, the camera work and the music are all top-notch. Doc Ock, played wonderfully by Alfred Molina, is iconic as a Spider-Man movie villain. I remember watching this opening day (I think) with my sister, and I was blown away with how spectacular (wink-wink) this movie was/is. Hell, the "Spider-Man no more" scene left me in tears. In my opinion, Spider-Man losing his problems is a sign of depression. All of his struggles pile up and he is not able to handle that mental strain this manifests in him losing his powers. This movie does a good job about addressing mental health in a subtle way.

My favorite interpretations of Otto is easily Alfred Molina's, and when I first played Spider-Man Ps4 that version of Otto just reminded of Molina's version of Otto, and Tobey's Spidey/Peter was one of the most relatable things of this movie. Looking back at it now as a college student I love how much I can see my own struggles with Peter's imbalance of his personal and "work/Superhero" life

Spider-Man did lose his powers in comics from time to time, the earliest example is from Amazing Spider-Man #12 way back in 1964. He lost his powers temporarily because of fever, If a simple fever can make him lose his powers I think it's not too farfetched for him to lose his powers because of depression. Funnily enough, he was also facing Doc Ock at the time.

And this is all we simply want from MCU Spider-Man. Relatability and consequences of his double sided life, hopefully No Way Home will do good at this. Anyway, Spider-Man 2 is amazing! What I love and grown to appreciate after reading some of the 60s Spider-Man comics is that Raimi worked in Peter's loss of powers beautifully. During #12 of Amazing Spider-Man, Peter gets sick and loses his powers right when he has to deal with Doc Ock. What's a nice touch in this movie is that not long after Otto told Peter that keeping love hidden and bottled up inside could make him "sick", he begins to lose his powers. So it's a nice, very subtle nod.

I always thought peter losing his powers was a sign that he needed to focus on being peter parker instead of spiderman for awhile so he can find the balance of both worlds. When I was a kid I obviously never questioned the plot points of the Raimi trilogy, but through adulthood I always thought him losing his powers was a lesson in that, even though you can tell yourself you’re doing what you’re supposed to do, the question could always be there if you constantly put others before you’re own needs. “Am I not supposed to have what I want, what I need?” I thought it humanized him extremely as a hero who always puts others before him. Everyone needs a break sometimes and if you don’t mentally decide to take one, in extreme cases of stress, your body can choose to take a break for you. I see it as a rare entry in the super hero genre that actually shows the mental stress being a hero would add onto your normal life. And what that mental stress can do to you physically. Ottos arch I feel slightly mimics that, in that how much he worked and fixated on his fusion project, and when he could have asked himself, “am I not supposed to have what I want” and he took the opportunity to take what he wanted, like Peter took his “losing his powers” as an opportunity to go back to normal life, cause that’s what Peter wanted. SUCH an amazing superhero story. Relatable, and it was story first, spectacle to enhance the story. The formula for super hero movies now is definitely not what it was
@seafirend3 жыл бұрын
As a kid I never understood why Peter just lost his powers, but as an adult and knowing what being depressed feels like and how it can affect everything you do even the things you were good at now seem difficult and you doubt whether you could ever doing them in the first place. Now this movie gets that much better when you add that layer of character to it.

Spider-Man 2 was the film where I first discovered Spider-Man and I will NEVER forget that. This movie still hold ups today with it's story, themes, action, music score from Danny Elfman and most importantly the characters. The only thing I didn’t like about Spider-Man 2 is Peter gave up his powers knowing full well that Doc Ock was still at large and he’s the only one who could’ve possibly stopped him. I would have liked it if he thought he actually defeated him, then gave up his powers. Only for doctor octopus to return, then he has to take responsibility again.

I Saw this Movie when around 3 years old and my older brother was big Spider-Man Fan that he had all of the trilogy (Widescreen edition, very classic) on DVD and I started watching it with him and this one was the one made fall in love with Spider-Man that now I collect legos figures of each version, 2002, TASM, you name it, i got it (Most of them) Tbh without this movie idk where i would picture myself right now

This and TASM1 are the only Spider-Man movies I didn't get to see in theaters. But when I finally saw this one, my favorite scene is definitely the transition of Peter swinging to Otto"s glasses. What a battle that was. Not to mention all the pizza missions and car chases in the Spider-Man 2 videogame.

I had Spider-man toys as well as a towel which I had up until like 2 years ago lmao. I remember one of the toys was one with magnets on his hands and feet. Coolest spider-man toy ever lol

his webs being attached to his emotions is perfect, its what i LOVE about organic webbing. Keeping love inside makes him sick, just like the doctor said. He's struggling so much and hes lost on being spider-man, and spider-man is lost on peter. Its perfect

I actually just watched this movie for the first time ever and it’s the only spiderman film that I haven’t seen and honestly I really enjoyed it. Great review and I loved every second of this video! 👍🏻

Watching this movie was the best decision I ever made in my entire life, and I was like 5 years old. No movie since has captured the dichotomy of Peter Parker and Spiderman. As much as I love Into the Spiderverse, I've watched them both on multiple occasions and I'd still pick Spiderman 2 in a heartbeat.

I had the same exact beach chair and used it for years ! Love the channel & content! Especially since you can relate to many of us in our childhood. 🤟🏽
