After a rewatch, you'll notice that Michelle is actually following Peter around because she has a crush on him...like she's going to detention when she doesn't need to, she sits at his table, she knows he's quitting his clubs and he is in the Decathlon team even though she doesn't seem interested in the club at all. She's also often watching him from afar like in the homecomig scene.

Melanie Delgado She could just be infatuated with Parker because he's somewhat mysterious and she's bored. But the great thing I like about this MJ is that she doesn't put up with Parker's antics and can kind of see through his excuses. I especially like that she can keep up with Parker in wit. Yea I think they'd make a great couple.🤗

A little insight on MJ... Marvel Studios boss and Homecoming producer Kevin Feige recently told IGN’s Jim Vejvoda the following: “We never even looked at it as a big reveal necessarily but more of just a fun homage to his past adventures and his past love. She's not Mary-Jane Watson. She never was Mary-Jane Watson. She was always this new high school character, Michelle, who we know there's an ‘M’ in Michelle and an ‘M’ in Mary. [laughs] So we're so clever and we thought, ‘Wouldn't it be neat if her initials were MJ?’ … Is she going to date Peter? Are they going to fall in love? She seems to be intrigued with him. There's a nice chemistry there. Who knows what will happen in the future films?”

Yeah, thats my point. In the car he says he lets him live as he saved his daughter, a life for a life. Peter then saves him on the beach after the crate explodes. So is he keeping the ID secret for that reason or because he wants revenge himself. Either way works, and makes him a good villain, IMO.

I felt that it was for 3 reasons: 1) Peter saved his life 2) Peter saved his daughter's life {as well as being his daughter's friend and love interest} 3) He's keeping that information close to the vest- for his own use/agenda that will probably be addressed in a future film. .

"He killed a guy by accident. Well I guess I'm a bad guy." He meant to hurt the guy. Accidentally killed him. "Welp oh well." He's a criminal with a conscience. The guy he accidentally killed was a piece of shit as it was. It didn't phase him. He can't show weakness in front of his crew. He was wanting to hurt him and show who's boss but killed him. He was a criminal stealing and selling. He wanted to kill Spider-Man. He tried. Failed. Then by the end of the movie, Spider-Man saved him and that's why he won't tell Scorpion his name. Idk... his thoughts on killing reminds me of Heisenberg. The things he does is "for the family". He's doing whatever necessary to provide for his family. The last mission was supposed to be their last one. The guy he was punishing/accidentally killed was in his way. Spider-Man who he wanted to kill was in his way of providing for his family. That's what it's all about, especially after being fired and being low. He "needed" the job. Was fired. 8 years later his family is living the rich life from all of his work. Just a few more jobs and he's done. He was a great villain.

I think Vulture is for sure ex-military. When he is talking to Peter in that warehouse and talking about how poorer people get the short end of the stick, he mentions how people fight wars for the rich and die for them. 38:26 I feel like Spidey was quippy enough in Homecoming. He had the right amount, because he can't be too quippy. That was one of the major issues of Age of Ultron: it was too quippy. As well, Spidey's a part of the MCU & he's not the only quippy hero, as Ant-Man & Star-Lord are really quippy as well.
@existentialmarxist37607 жыл бұрын
I think the MCU finally nodded toward the Marvel Netflix universe. When Peter was telling Tony that he has to take down the Vulture and Tony said "there's people that handle this kind of stuff" and the then Peter said "the Avengers?" And tony replied "no it's a bit below their pay grade." Well if it's not the Avengers then who in the world is Tony talking about? Maybe the Defenders? I mean Tony could just be talking about the Feds, but we're also talking about criminals with alien tech, so maybe someone with more ability than the Feds.

I totally disagree with you guys about MJ and Flash's portrayal. This portrayal of Flash was actually closer to the comics, he's always been more of a prick that was always picking on Peter rather than the stereotypical "GIVE ME YOUR FUCKING LUNCH MONEY" bully in recent portrayals. MJ on the other hand is different which I think is a really good thing. Mary Jane doesn't really have much of a personality other than just being Peter's hot trophy wife, so this snarky loner personality is a very welcome breath of fresh air. Also, she's in the movie for like ten minutes so she's obviously gonna get fleshed out more in future films. Also, her obvious crush on Peter was cute.

I really liked her! And frankly, she could be the Mary Jane MJ or the Michelle Jones MJ, I do not really care whichever direction they go in. Kirsten DUnst's MJ was devoid of pretty much any personality, she was there just to be saved and was a pretty bad person (cheating on her boyfriend with Peter in the first movie, cheating on her fiance with Peter in the second one, and cheating on Peter with Harry in the last one). so here's my defense for Michelle mj. if her name isn't even Michelle and it's been Mary Jane the whole time hiding her name is a very very mj thing to do because as a kid she was very obsessed with hiding the pain of her childhood home. if she's hiding that under a fake name that's awesome. also she does share sort of the same personality as ultimate Mary Jane because Mary Jane was very disinterested in anything unless Peter was involved. if she's ultimate Mary Jane Watson I'm fine
@Kimbrell7 жыл бұрын
"The Prowler" is who Donald Glover was playing. I think occasionally you guys forget they're sophomores. Of course Flash is smaller and whiny sounding. Senior year? Might be a different story. Both Spider-Man franchises before this movie they were seniors in high school or graduating. Flash has filled out and is more of a physical bully than a mental bully. Also another way they could be taking it is to relate to high schoolers today. Of course you guys and myself know bullies as the physical bullies but today's bullies are definitely more mental based. Aunt May... again... he's a sophomore... so of course she's younger. I didn't enjoy the MJ drop but I don't mind them changing MJ up. Again he's still a sophomore so it's highly likely by he graduates there will be a new love interest. Could very well bring in Mary Jane and he relates to her because of the "MJ" (maybe Michelle dies at some point). Enough quips... didn't need to over do it. He has so much growing to do and will learn so many different things. Like the web launcher, swinging high in Manhattan, etc. Also the Washington monument... yeah he hasn't been that high. Also he had nothing to really save him... like another building or something to swing to. Eric and Calvin seem to get it... everyone keeps comparing it to movies before. But that moment under the rubble... is a huge moment for him. He's growing. He's learning he is the hero. Also like you mentioned... Aunt May mentions his body going through changes. He's Spider-Man when puberty is just starting. When he's older, a senior, a man... he'll develop spidey sense, be stronger, be quippier, be faster with his moves, etc. I think we'll see him more and more since we're approaching phase 4 in MCU. Stark or Cap or both will die soon imo. He'll at some point be an Avenger and become the face of the franchise/Avengers. So in between then and now... he needs to grow, learn, etc.
@JustJake917 жыл бұрын
also want to add that they are at a high end mathematics and science high school not a typical high school, a gifted school isn't likely to have the same Flash bully as normal so they went with a smarter bully who uses the fact that he is rich and popular instead of a jock.
@holup4547 жыл бұрын
I think he already has his spider sense though because in civil war there were times where he clearly sensed something coming at him. He sensed when Ant-man was on cap's shield and he sensed when the winter soldier threw the big ass thing behind his back. He said "oh no" or something along that before throwing it back and saying "hey buddy I think you lost this!" Also saying that he's barely starting puberty already seems kinda weird to me because I'm a sophomore and my balls already dropped. I don't think I know anyone who started puberty this late.

This was 100% my Spider-Man. Everything about it was perfect. My Spider-Man growing up was the Ultimate Universe Spider-Man (Peter, and I also loved Miles. I can't wait for them to introduce him and possibly do the Death of Spider-Man story) and this was straight up that. The only thing I didn't care for was Betty Brandt looking like Gwen Stacy but that isn't that important, as long as she ends up at the Daily Bugle (which I feel they're setting up, with her being an anchor). The Vulture was awesome, so was Shocker and I can't wait for The Scorpion. Also yes, he has spider-sense. They didn't showcase it like they've done in the previous movies. Just because they don't have a "Hey, look, this is what Spider-sense is" doesn't mean it's not there. You can see many examples of this with him dodging stuff that he can't see coming. Like in Civil War, when his eyes widened when Bucky threw the car at him. This was a more accurate Flash Thompson. I know you guys aren't used to this version, but it's always been my favorite interpretation of the character, instead of the stereotypical dumb jock guy that beats people up and takes their money.

Michelle is definately going to be "MJ" in this universe but not necessarily Mary Jane. I think they made her frumpy looking on purpose so in the next few films she will have an evolution and become super hot because Zendaya is quite beautiful IRL. I like the idea of Flash being just a cliché brawny bully, but someone who "flashes" his money in your face and is just a major douchebag. Flash's license plate said "Flashdrv"(Flash Drive).

My favorite part was the night of Homecoming, from meeting the parents to getting dropped off I like the comparisons you make to something "classic" but not how you dis something for not being classic. Like MJ, obviously she's not how you want her to look but what about her performance? This new MJ already feels more memorable and like she has more depth than the last to me so im excited to see her development. I bet she wont be a damsel like the old MJ whenever she gets taken. And Flash's bullying shouldn't be classic like beating up and stealing, since bullying in general has been a huge deal the past few years.

I thought he had the spider-sense, since in Civil War he dodges a sign thrown by Bucky and exclaim's "Oh God!" while his back is still facing it. It makes sense that he hasn't fully developed or learned how to use it, and perhaps he doesn't realize his enhanced intuition is a spider power, but I'm certain that at this point he has some semblance of the spider sense.

I think not wanting Zandaya to be MJ just because she doesn't fit the description "redhead" is I think lame. Appearances don't make the character. MJ can still be as close as the comic book character even with different physical features.

J W agreed and the name Zendaya is the MJ of this universe I like it it's a new version she likes him she alwyas following him around and gave him the middle finger at the dance as signal fuck you you should have asked me out maybe in the 2nd or 3rd she can real her real name is Mary Jane and take off her black hair wig and her natural hair color is red so comic nerds can shut up

MJ is a redhead. It is a defining feature of her, a consistent one. It is like having Lois Lane and having her not be a reporter or having a catwoman who is not a cat burglar. Besides Peter refers to her hair often.

+Living Lighting Or like having Aunt May be 40 years too young (changing her personality and hair colour). Or like having the Vulture be working class. Or like having Tony be Peter's mentor from the start. Or like giving Vulture a daughter. Or like inventing a character called Ned out of thing air... Oh wait. You're not complaining about all those huge changes are you? Why?

I thought of Flash as a kind of modern day reimagining of him as nowadays in schools bullying between nerd/geeks and 'jocks' doesn't really happen that much. Bullying happens more within a social group to the person that doesn't like the same things as everyone else. I think the character was done really well. Michelle was my favourite character, she had some of the best lines and i gasped when she revealed herself as MJ. I know it's not Mary Jane but I can't wait to see where they go with the characters. My favourite moment was the Aunt May moment at the end. I laughed threw the credits, it was so funny. Best moment!

Nice Review, guys. You just got a new subscriber now. And yes, loved the movie. It wasn't a perfect Spider Man movie but was a perfect adaptation for the MCU. Loved the comedy in it, it had some cool fights and it showed a lot of potential for future installments. Have a legendary day everyone.

This is what I want for the next villains in the sequel. 1. Shocker: I don't need much of the shocker and some vengeance story, I think Schultz should be in the movie for one scene like a bank heist at the beginning of the movie and then he's arrested. 2. Scorpion: OBVIOUSLY he's the next villain in the sequel, but I don't think he's the main villain, maybe just a mercenary hunting Spiderman. 3. Kingpin: Now this is a stretch, but this is absolutely positively the thing I WANT. Through the whole movie Kingpin and Spiderman never come face to face, kingpin's still controlling his business and the prison while in prison so in a way this isn't overloading the film with villains. After Avengers tower is sold we find out Wilson Fisk is buying Avengers tower and makes it Fisk tower, this makes sense since Daredevil is pushing him out of Hell's Kitchen and he expands into Manhattan. During the construction of the tower Spiderman notices Fisk's construction and stops Fisk's expansion of business and Fisk is angry so he gets Mac Gargan out of prison like he did the Punisher and hires Mac to kill Spiderman. Through this whole movie Spiderman is being hunted and on the second encounter with scorpion Spiderman is on the verge of death and Daredevil shows up and saves Spiderman. After Gargan flees from the scene Peter asks Daredevil a couple questions like "Who are you, Do you know who I am I mean my identity, and What if I need your help again?" Daredevil replies "I'm just a man trying to rinse out the city I love, No I don't know who you are nor do I want to know either, and If you ever need my help I'm always listening and I have some friends that can help you too." That's it...You don't have to make it a Spiderman and Daredevil film, DD's only gotta be in the movie for one scene that proves the MCU shows and movies ARE indeed connected. AND here's other ways they could introduce the Netflix characters into the MCU Movies via Spiderman 1. Michelle Jones is Jessica Jones Cousin 2. Aunt May hires Jessica Jones to investigate the crime scene involving Uncle Ben and his killer 3. Aunt May finds Ben's killer and sues him with the help of Matt Murdock and/or Foggy Nelson Or even Jeri Hogarth or Foggy's Ex girlfriend (I can't remember her name) 4. Aunt May gets Karate lessons at colleen wing's dojo 5. After Shocker's defeated by Spiderman in homecoming he escapes to Harlem's Paradise 6. Peter meets Karen Page asks her questions about newspaper editing 7. Aunt May works at the same hospital Clair Temple works at Marvel your choice pick one or all and PLEASE DO IT!

She's not Mary-Jane Watson. Her name is Michelle Jones, so her initials just happen to be MJ. She clearly has nothing to do with Mary-Jane, so I don't think people need to worry about her 'changing' a classic character. They don't seem to be putting a new/different spin on Mary-Jane, but rather are creating a completely new character whose name happens to be easter egg!

Just because she ain't Mary Jane doesn't mean she can't be fucking MJ. Michael Jackson is MJ. Michael Jordan is MJ. Magic Johnson is MJ. It's not exclusive ffs. I don't mind original characters as long as they're done right. Nobody was complaining about Batman's movie-original love interest in the first two Nolan films.

I think I get what they're trying to do with the MJ thing, and I'm kind of OK with it-- because this movie takes so much inspiration from cheesy highschool stuff like John Huges films, this MJ might be set up as the weird outcast love interest to contrast with a popular beauty love interest in the sequel. Playing out the popular girl vs. weird friend romantic conflict. But because MJ hardly interacts with Peter and because she's pretty much just a comic relief character in this film, it makes me kind of worried whether Zendaya will have good chemistry with Holland in the future when their romance blossoms.

1. In the discussion about whether or not Vulture is a killer, I feel like Aaron kept misunderstanding what Shane was trying to say. 2. Flash was reinterpreted as a more believable, modern-day kind of bully. I liked it. I'd take it over the old bully stereotype any day. 3. I really enjoyed Michelle all throughout the film. I liked all of the humor surrounding her character. The MJ "reveal" was a little off-putting, but I don't particularly have a problem with it. 4. Your reaction to this reinterpretation of Aunt May (which I agree with) is how I feel about Flash. I might edit this comment as I continue watching and have more thoughts about what you say.

10:13 I was kinda disappointed they didn't even put a reference to the Netflix heroes. Even something small like a newspaper article on the Devil of Hell's Kitchen or Harlem's Hero or the return of Danny Rand or the People vs. Frank Castle or even an ad for Alias Investigatons. These guys are street level like Peter & live in the same city as him. Plus, it would've been good for Marvel's marketing since Defenders comes out next month.

Emma063 it actually happened 4 years and some change before this movie. The movie saying 8 years later is an error. This is a few months after civil war, which took place in 2016. This Spider-man definitely does have spider-sense. You'll notice it a lot if you pay attention during this movie but the most obvious demonstration is in Civil War when Ant-Man is on Cap's shield, when Ant Man is getting ready to strike, Spider-man looks at the shield and starts to say "Hey guys, there's something..." and there's really no other way he would have said that if not for spidersense

There's a scene in Civil War where Spider-Man's spidey sense is seen. At 01:32:48 into the movie, you see his eyes get bigger and he says "Oh god!" before dodging something that Bucky threw at him, that he didn't see coming. So he already has it, but it's probably not fully developed yet.

I agree with not liking the flash in the movie but Zendaya I like as MJ if that's who the movie ppl want her to be.Just because she black and doesn't have red doesn't mean anything, in the flash tv show they an African american kid flash instead of the origninal white guy with red hair i think ya'll need to be open minded with new version of these charecters
@Tan87ful7 жыл бұрын
Sylvia Gladney Well it doesn't matter if Zendaya's character had red hair because she isn't playing Mary Jane Watson. I do say that if she was Mary Jane, she would need to be rocking a red wig or a red weave. They could make a joke out of it and have someone ask her about her hair and have her say that she wanted a change or something to express herself. U can't sell to me and to the rest of the audience that Zendaya is Mary Jane and have her not with red hair. I like this Michelle character and it would be cool if they could add her to the comics.
@Sylvia3417 жыл бұрын
Nella J i understand what your saying but in the video they were talking about they basically couldn't picture her being mary jane unless she had red hair. and i never said she was mary jane i said if the people who make the movies wanted zendaya to be her theres nothing nobody can do because its their movie and if they dnt want her to be a red head just because mary jane was in the comics and tv show and the original spider man movie they dnt have too and like i said b4 to me its not a bad idea if they are doing a new version of the character and starting her as just a friend then something more than just a hot chick with red hair and most likely white that's all

I think the fact of throwing in all the gadgets were their because of "If your nothing without the suit, than you shoulnt have it at all" This is why the whole rubble scene made sense. He beat the villain with just his own suit and no gadgets. Also he has spider sense. He used it in the bank, he used it in Civil War.

You know how the net pairs Cap and Tony as Peter's father figures? I find it kinda funny that in the movie, Cap is the phone in dad while Tony is the responsible, protective dad.
