Exactly bro Me personally when I saw spiderman lotus. Something inside me changed a web blast if you will. You see when I saw this movie an idea came to me almost akin to the radioactive spider coming inside of Peter Parker. This idea told me the true meaning of this film you see. This not a love letter fan film to spiderman its actually a grizzly period piece on the effects of mechanical engineering in the western world and how it effects the economy's growth. You can especially see this when Peter "Patricia" Parker uses his signature "Go Go Gadget Concealed Carry" on shocker and unloads a magazine into him. Overall this movie has completely changed my life and I thank my good friend Gavin everyday for creating this brave period piece amidst an overflow of superhero movies. Incredible watch. 4/10

this is becoming a common occurence that I see with a lot of the self proclaimed biggest Spider-Man fans who led a hate train on the MCU version of Spider-Man. It always came off like they cared more about the idea of Peter always continuously struggling and if he wasn't on the verge of homelessness then he wasn't really Spider-Man.

@@ivyfilms9032I think they’re taking advantage of the recent appreciation for Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man and everyone’s trying to copy that when they develop Spider-Man not realizing that they need a unique blend of each version depicted as they all brought something fresh and character filled into their roles.
@ivyfilms9032 Жыл бұрын
@@RealogOnlyBrodie It's lengthy but I'm opinionated and put thought into my response below: yeah it's clearly a sort of sequel in a way to TASM 2 which ??? I guess. that's a level of over correcting that's kind of been a pet peeve of mine for a while now. Any time a new adaptation comes out, we find ourselves going back and showing love to the previous one. The consensus for a long time was that the Garfield and Webb version of Spider-Man wasn't good and Raimi was the standard. Even Feige's lengthy notes to Sony on TASM2 that were leaked was a determining factor of them collaborating for the MCU version. the thing that I loved most about Tom Holland's Spider-Man was it's commitment to let his high school experience to just breathe and deal with things that typically relate to teenagers because we don't get that and doubling down by making it an homage to John Hughes which are the definitive coming of age high school movies. Making an adaptation your own thing and a celebration of the history really shows how much you care for the character. It's why Spiderverse works. I don't get that feeling here. It feels anti-MCU with a hubris that "I can make a better Spider-Man movie". This is a side of fandom I'm not too fond of because it's how things get so toxic.
@RealogOnlyBrodie Жыл бұрын
@@ivyfilms9032 I also do like that Tom’s Spider-Man doesn’t have the exaggerated confidence that Tobey and Andrew did in battle, you can feel the anxious teenager behind the mask panicking in many scenes that make him feel more like an actually highschool or even young adult. I feel like movies nowadays are scared to portray superheros that aren’t in a rut, it’s like all the directors want to place heroes in very predictable “I’m not a hero I’m a vigilante” arc but there’s no nuance to it. Spider-Man lotus gives us nothing more than Spider-Man 2, Spider-Man 3, TASM 2 or what No Way Home did. Just in a worse acting, worse directing way. It’s like the directors live in a bubble where they think “Spider-Man’s always having fun, we need to make him hurt” but in actuality that’s what they’ve been saying and doing for the past 50 years and we now live in a world where Spider-Mans always hurting in some way. People can’t say they’re special for giving Spider-Man the same traits he’s had for most of hi: comic and theatrical run.

For me, it was cause the pacing was so bad. I get we didnt get many action scenes cause of budget reasons, but they were placed awfully. We get two in the first half of the movie, and the second half is nothing but talking to the point I got REALLY bored. I'm all for Peter Parker, slower paced stuff but something needs to happen to keep the audience engaged. I was even more upset because the actor who played Harry put his soul into that performance. They even seemed to be directing him to becoming Green Goblin in the end, but it never happened. Also, Wayne's acting was terrible and the way he treated the kid was awful and cruel at points, even to MJ and Harry he was a jerk. I thought he was possessed by the black suit at times cause of how aggressive he was in some conversations

Yea the plot kinda repeats itself in 45 minute chunks it’s really odd
@schizoreze Жыл бұрын
The thing that could've salvaged this movie's plotline is if it just focused on Peter and the Kid's interaction as the basis for the entire movie. It should've just had the other parts of the movie (fight scenes, scenes with his friends, etc etc) be the flashbacks or dream sequences as he talks with the kid about who he thinks is "Spider-Man". To Peter, it's just a facade. Nothing more than a burden he has to carry on for the rest of his life. Something that gave him purpose while simultaneously ruining his life when Gwen died. But for the kid, it is something much more. Someone who he believes is a TRUE hero and someone who she should aspire to be in his last moments. Peter's conversation with the kid's mother after he walked out on him pretty much solidified this idea in my head. It's just better for me personally because not only does it focus on Peter's arc of self-actualization but also the kid's last memory before he passes on.

This just goes to show that if you are so spiteful and hateful over how a professional movie studio like Marvel Studios portrayed Spider-Man in live action for the past eight years, it doesn't necessarily mean you yourself can do better. Gavin tried so hard to make a feature fan film that he arrogantly proclaimed was going to outshine actual Spidey movies just because it had a good looking suit and adapted two famous fan favourite stories, in the end it just all fell flat on its face. Warden Wayne's take on Spidey was NOT Peter Parker whatsoever. I know he was meant to be angry and depressed over Gwen’s death but the way Gavin wrote it was just awful. It wasn't showing Peter’s vulnerability, he was just acting like an asshole. The fact that this film got 100K in funding and this was the best that they could come up with, it just felt like such a waste of time. Terrible.

The problem with Spiderman: Lotus is that it somehow tried to be 2 films at once: 1. A happy go lucky, reminiscing chill movie with spiderman and the kid. 2. A traditional spiderman-esque (Amazing spiderman 2 style) Movie jammed pack with drama, fight scenes and so on. Spiderman: Lotus just has a lot of rough edges, I mean: A. For a 2 hour long film, it fails to captivate the viewer, this failling this fundemental rule of thumb in films would lead viewers to turn off due to boredom. B. Pacing was dragged and slow, the timing in the film is also awful, essentially there are some scenes that take wayyy too long and should have been cut down. C. The CGI was great, Spiderman doing his vigilante superhero antics in this film were on point, but because we only get 3-4 short scenes of those and they are really too far spread out, so we got this long emotional dialogue sections of the films and again, down to timing, they are just too long, even someone with a great attention span will yawn of boredom. D. Peter Parker/Spiderman as a character was somewhat of a mess, frankly for a film focused on peter parker, even peter parker barely did anything significant, some dialogue, some jokes and thats it, This leaves a void. Normally spiderman films (or films in general) would fill that void with interesting action or scenes to make up for it. Simply put, the lack of spiderman in this film left a void, it made people uninterested in Spider-man and Peter Parker all together because they are both half assed as characters. Peter Parker is the MC but he acts like a background character, Spiderman is there as more of a cameo. To me, spiderman: Lotus was a mess, for a fan film it was great, they did a lot of things right. But it all falls apart because really, the film is too boring, the pacing is too slow for viewers to maintain their attention. As an art piece, its decent. As a film, its bad.

I thought I was the only one who felt this way. The suit almost looks too big for Peter's actor because of folds and creases around his neck. Tbh, my take on the movie is that it’s too much of a ‘miserable Peter Parker porn’, the pacing was a little bit off, but I do like the music and the essential theme of the story, although I do wish we had more screen time with Peter & Gwen, and more time with the kid and Spider-Man, I do agree that the tone feels manipulative and forced but I get that it was trying to convey how Peter was feeling. The VFX were great, the writing and dialogue could be off in blazes but it never bothered me too greatly. Honestly? Like how Spidey uses human meat bag shields during the Shocker fight, the scene where Peter goes on a hissy fit against MJ that is absolutely not in line with his character and is more in line with howhe acts when wearing the symbiote suit, and how Peter trauma dumps on a dying 10 year old. There are countless movies on this channel made when I was around his age and even younger (with a $0 budget) and they also deserve to get criticized to all hell because a lot really don’t hold up lmao. The point is, I’m speaking from experience in a lot of these critiques. Filmmaking is an artform that heavily involves trial and error. If something doesn’t work, you handle it differently in the next project. Everything from the editing to the cinematography needs improvement and I hope that the cast and crew all learned and grew from this project in a technical/production sense.
