The movies aren’t canon. Even if they were, the only reason ssj3 Goku was stronger was because of the dragon fist, which is a 10x multiplier. Also, goku cannot maintain that form. Ultimate Gohan would win in the long run, no matter how you put it. I love ssj3 goku waaaaayyyy more than ultimate gohan, but you can’t ignore the facts. It’s not like goku could just be constantly shitting out dragon fists to beat gohan.

Ethan Dunn I think goku’s exact words to gohan is that he “could deflect the spirit bomb if his heart was pure and rid of evil” he NEVER said anything about it not being able to harm him, we even see the spirit bomb throw gohan back as he deflected it. So I’m pretty sure the spirit bomb can hurt you regardless if you’re good or not, it’s just that you can deflect it if you’re pure of heart

The Dragon Fist is a super transformed elevation of Goku's move against Daimon Piccolo. He originally used the Ozaru Fist as a kid, however, when he transformed into Super Saiyan, he acquired the move through that power now representative of Shenron instead of Saiyans. That's my take on it. In truth, Goku has 4 super finishing moves: Spirit Bomb, Dragon Fist, Kaioken and Kamehameha.

It's like the Nibus only allows the our of heart and that's why Krillin couldn't fly it, but Goku Gohan and Chi chi(at least as a child) could fly it. The spirit bomb is probably like the soul publisher, only works on the evil in you, that's why the kid survived it when it was used against Janemba, and why Broly was just damaged and not obliterated. Vegeta even smiles after seeing that, like he knows that Broly not pure evil, just gone berserk, and right before Broly got hit with the kamehameha, Brolys pupils came back, like he was finally shocked out of blind rage and could control his power.

I'd say for the original run of the manga and anime, the Spirit Bomb is Goku's trump card. With all of the continuity that came after (movies, GT, video games, etc) it would be Dragon Fist. Even DBZ Kakarot which only covers the story from Raditz up to Kid Buu decided to include the Dragon Fist as one of Goku's strongest moves in the game, despite it never being used in Z. It's just become so iconic at this point. As you said, canon doesn't matter, so I believe that the move being as iconic as it is should be more than enough reason for it to be considered his trump card.

The DragonFist can presumably be performed whilst at MAX power, where as the Spirit bomb is always done from Base form. I think the DFist is probably easier on Goku's body, as well as faster to execute. Let's not forget about SS4's point blank Dfist vs Ice Shenron

Dragon Fist, cause if Goku created it must have been because the Spirit Bomb is unreliable since you need others power to get sufficient results. The Dragon Fist exponentially increases the base level of Goku's strike, so if he is in his strongest forms (Z = SSJ3, SUPER = SSJB OR MUI, OR GT = SSJ4), his attack power generally wipes out his opponents.

Basically Spirit bomb: more powerful with variation but takes a while to charge Dragon Fist: Badass, cool, dramatic, quick to use and still delivers a powerful punch. Overall i think dragon fist is his best move, it doesn't take nearly as much time to use like the spirit bomb and it probably still does more damage than the kamehameha.

I like the dragon fist more because of its ressemblance to the move he used to defeat King Piccolo. That was one of my favourite moments in Dragon Ball. It feels right for Goku to have honed that technique so that it becomes the Dragon fist. It’s just like how the SSJ4 transformation feels so right. You guys mention the strength of the move, the aesthetics of the moves and The usefulness of the moves. Based off those specifics, it's tough to make that decision. The dragonfist is really cool and close to my favorite technique of his. My favorite of Goku's is the kaioken. My thoughts are this. When a trump card is used, it's because it's the resort he has to take with the energy, stamina and endurance he has left. He's put everything on the table. Both moves have been finishers. I think, we need to see the moves being used back to back again. Except, see him gather the spirit bomb and then attempt the dragon fist afterwards. Would Goku have enough energy left to do that? We've seen him do a spirit bomb after a dragonfist vs omega. His trump card will ultimately drain him completely so, it's hard to tell. Yknow, the problem? It's content creators taking old lore and changing it later. King Kai told Goku it "was a last resort" and the setup for awhile as Gokus ultimate trump card. Then ...that's no longer a thing cause, new finishers come into play and confuse us all when Goku still whips out the spirit bomb in the end. That's the problem. Writers change shit, toriyama also forgets crap and this is why we can't make a real decision. Especially when we see Goku pull something else out of sleeves after using the spirit bomb and being completely drained.

Now that you've mentioned this, I do hold both of these techniques to the same standard (since they're both effective in finishing the job). I liked how in Budokai 3, Goku (in any Super Saiyan form) would absorb the energy from the Spirit Bomb to amplify the Dragon Fist (basically combing both techniques). Needless to say, in DBZ Kakarot, I've Goku equipped with both these skills. I wonder if we'll see the Dragon Fist again in Super?

I think of it this way. The dragon fist is gokus trump card, however the genki dama is a last ditch effort move. I think there is a difference since a last ditch move is a last hope and is more chance. A trump card is your most powerful move with the best chance to finish a fight. I think a good example of this is the friza fight where goku g did the spirit bomb a a last chance because the Kaioken (gokus old trump card) wasn’t working.

The thing about Omega Shenron is that due to the abilities of the shadow dragons and by virtue of what they are, he really only could be destroyed by the spirit bomb. The guy was already immune to physical attacks thanks to rage Shenron's power which also helps counter ki attacks. Not to mention that feat in destroying planets with shockwaves is highly inconsistent and contradicted later. Besides GT Goku in his base form shook heaven and hell just by powering up. I think that is a tad more impressive.

In terms of either one being goku's "ultimate Move", I would say its definitely the Spirit bomb. Not only did it finish off more Final villians, but it works like a "Ultimate" move too, as its dependant on EVERYONE donating their energy to charge it.

I have to go with the Dragon Fist because it does not require the large amount of time to gather the energy required to defeat later enemies. The Genki Dama leaves him far too open to attack as he cannot gather energy fast enough. If Goku could gather the energy without having to stand still and hold that pose then the Genki Dama would be much better.

Honestly just mentioning dragon fist makes me wish in the broly movie that gogeta used dragon fist instead of a kamehameha at the end, that would've been a shocker and epic with how gorgeous that movie was.

Well that depends. Dragon Fist is really powerful, and is able to multiply its user's power tenfold, also can be casted right away. The Genki Dama can be as strong as the energy that collects, going from defeating a mad scientist to the incarnation of pure Evil or even a wicked inmortal god. The thing is, The Genki Dama takes a while to charge, the more power you need, the more charging time it would use.

Dragon Fist is my absolute favorite move of Goku’s and I hope it gets canonized one day. Goku seriously needs more moves at his disposal and I can imagine the Dragon Fist will be the next big move Goku will learn.

Genki dama may be his Ultimate trump card, but after Jiren just dicked on it, it feels a bit less dependable. The Dragon Fist should return and take over as the Finishing move for a while and save the Genki Dama ss a last resort. Maybe have the Dragon Fist be Ultra instinct's finishing move. Just overwhelming power and a kill move. Idk ha maybe Super Saiyan Blue. A blue looking Shenron would look badass!

It's debatable which attack is better between the dragon fist and the spirit bomb. For the dragon fist, it's proven to be Goku's strongest physical attack that uses Ki, and it's shown to be effective against opponents with stronger power (i.e omega shenron). The dragon fist also has an impressive success rate; it was instrumental in defeating super 17, destroyed eis shenron, overpowered omega shenron, and if you count dbz movie 13 it destroyed Hirudegarn. However it's only known failed attempt was against omega shenron, who was overpowered by the attack but was able to regenerate from the damage the dragon fist caused. The spirit bomb is arguably Goku's most powerful attack. It's failings are due to its charging time and its low success rate. In the series the spirit bomb failed many times; Goku failed to hit great ape Vegeta with a fully charged spirit bomb, Vegeta survived getting hit with a partially charged spirit bomb, Frieza survived getting hit with a super spirit bomb despite being overpowered by it, and the spirit bomb was ineffective against Jiren. The spirit bomb has proven effective against some of the most powerful opponents of dragon ball, such as kid Buu and omega shenron. If counting the dragon ball z movies, the spirit bomb was instrumental in defeating dr wheelo, turles (though it failed in the 1st attempt), Lord slug, and super Android 13 (though it was absorbed into super saiyan Goku's body). In conclusion, I do believe that the spirit bomb is Goku's most powerful technique, but the dragon fist is the better technique.

Dragon Fist honestly should be Goku's trump card. It feels like a culmination of everything he's done to become the martial arts god we known him to be. It's the one move he didn't just learn from a friend: he created it himself. Hell, he created it as a kid with Ozarou Smash, and perfected it against Hirudegaan. Dragon Fist even fits the fact that if Goku had it his way, he wouldn't ask for help in a fight. He'd do everything he can to win under his own power.

Base form (and in SSGod since that is Base with God Ki) he should use Genki-Dama as a Finisher SSJ, SS2, SS3, SSBlue, SSBlue Kaioken and UI Omen he should use Dragon-Fist as his Finisher While in MUI he should use Godly Display just like in XV2 as a Finisher

People say that the Super Dragon fist is not canon, but those same fans never thought that Goku could have learned that move during the 7 year time skip ,after the battle with cell, when he was in the afterlife.
