Omg Mufti you have touched something I have questioned myself about muslims a lot, it's as Allah is just sitting there and obsessing about yr daily little activities. Example people would give Sadhaka so they can have a house in janah not how their sadakha would benefit the society or the person they are given for. Example in Africa money coming from Arab countries go all to build masjids where every other house has a masjid while there is no schools or hospitals or other things that the society is in a dire need for. I feel when a lot of muslims are given, they are only thinking about the reword they get from Allah not how they are making someone's life or society better.

Excellent observation especially for people living in the West.

Also, some people loose the whole essence of the religion while trying to practice the nitty gritty details of the religion.

Beautifully put together Mufti. It probably is the reason behind the lack of empathy we muslims have too..

Yeah, and I started to stop counting every rewards and punishment for every deed I have done and started hoping that Allah will always have mercy on me. Now I live a good life.

I can relate a lot to what you've said Mufti! I wish I could take some piece of advice and guidance to learn Islam and the way I should live

O God, if I worship Thee in fear of Hell, burn me in Hell; and if I worship Thee in hope of Paradise, exclude me from Paradise; but if I worship Thee for Thine own sake, withhold not Thine everlasting beauty." - Rabia Al-Aldiwiyya

The word fear I find it very annoying, i pray to Allah because I want to, not because of any fear. If u look at the holy Quran it talks about more mercy then punishment so that shows u Allah is merciful at all times not a punisher.

And oh when in muslims societies they say "marry someone who fears Allah " I personally have no clue how to define such a person .

Here is my tiny contribution: The obsession with rituals so many have (and I am especially thinking of Wahabites) is draining and destructive; The real reason behind rituals is to create a *social bond inside the group*. The idea that the creator of galaxies 13 billion light years away would care about the tiniest details of your daily life makes no sense. Just be good to your fellow humans (and beware of preachers who claim "everyone but me are wrong!"). -In regard to ethical rules, most of what you need to know was expressed by philosophers 2 millennia ago (getting people to follow them is another matter). Short version by Confucius: Do not do to others what you don't want others to do to you. Short version by Jesus: treat others as you want others to treat you. I find it rewarding to be kind to others even though I do not expect any heavenly reward.
