Strange indeed that Black didn't exchange Queens, transforming her King position from a weakness into a strength. In that scenario, I'd like Black's chances to get those center pawns rolling with the King in the ideal position to support them.

This g4 and Nf4 idea to shut out the black queen before a breakthrough against the white king reminds me of Ivanchuk - Kasparov, 1991 !

Good video. I would’ve have liked to have known why white castling on to a semi-open file that has a black rook on it wasn’t a significant risk.
@PowerPlayChess11 ай бұрын
There are risks associated with most strategies, it is whether they are out-weighed by the benefits. Clearly in this case, they were. To answer your specific question, as I pointed out on the video, the communication between White’s pieces was excellent, enabling the rooks to protect and even menace on the kingside.

After 9.Bb5, my intuition was to play Bxb5 Nxb5 Qa5+ Nc3 and an immediate Rg8. Wouldnt that make White uncomfortable to castle into? I was also thinking of perhaps transferring the Queen to the Kingside via Qg5 later. Maybe the Knight hopping into d5 early might be a problem though?@@PowerPlayChess

BxNF6, why didn't black took with the E pawn?

Why saddle yourself with a weak pawn on an open file ?

What if Black had played Bb5 exchanging the white bishops followed by Qb6?
@PowerPlayChess11 ай бұрын
White has a choice after 9...Bxb5 10 Nxb5 Qb6. I like 11 a4 a6 12 Nc3 Qxb2 13 Nd5 Rc8 14 0-0 with excellent compensation.

nice play by white exploiting black's king and loose rooks, well explained!

Hopefully she got a gm norm from this tournament
@Ruminations0911 ай бұрын
Looking at the competitors of this event, this very well may have qualified Vaishali for a norm. But she didn't get one here... because she already has all three! She has achieved every GM norm she needs - she earned her third GM norm at the Qatar Masters last month. All she needs at this point is to get her Elo rating up to 2500, and she will be a Grandmaster. Her official rating is currently 2467, and her unofficial live rating (which becomes official at the end of the month) is 2497. So she is very close!
