To be frank, I read/heard that the only reason superman is even weak to kryptonite is because when it was a radio show at a parallel time with the comic the actor for superman got sick and couldn't come in one day so they had to find a way to write him out and that just somehow got woven in with the cannon at some point. So yeah, Superman was never originally intended to be weak in any way ever, I agree with Lyle here Superman sound's like he was created by a 5 year old.
