I just read an arc of Among the Beasts and Briars, which is coming out on October 20 and I would totally recommend it as a creepy fall read. It takes a couple of fairy tales as inspiration, but primarily Sleeping Beauty and Beauty and the Beast I think. You follow a gardener's daughter as her friend inherits the kingdom after her father, the king dies. The crown is responsible for keeping the dark forest and the monsters in it in check, but at the coronation the forest breaks free and Cerys has to go on a quest to save herself, her friends, and her kingdom by traveling through the forest with her fox companion to try to break the curse. This book was honestly much darker and creepier than I expected. I'm definitely a horror wimp but I really enjoyed it. It's a quick YA read and I would recommend it.

Unrelated to this video, BUT I just read Fireborne after hearing you mention it a couple times and Oh. My. God. It was so amazing. I read it practically straight through the night because I could not put it down. I was so disappointed when I finished and realized the second book hasn't actually come out yet and just the cover art had been released. Definitely worth a reread again before March when Flameless comes out. Thank you for the recommendation! I've already shared the rec with a friend

Prefacing my recommendations by saying that I too am a wimpy reader! Lightly spooky book: The Monster of Elendhaven by Jennifer Giesbrecht. Dark and atmospheric, but not necessarily horrific. Medium spooky book: All the Bad Apples by Moira Fowley-Doyle: Curses and witches and banshees, and one part in an abandoned building that I had to close the book and collect myself, but as a whole not too bad. Medium spooky book: The Year of the Witching by Alexis Henderson. The witches and the woods are definitely creepy, but it's so gooooood.

To anyone looking for a book with mild horror elements I recommend "Krabat" by Otfried Preußler (it has various English titles). It's a dark, atmospheric fantasy novel inspired by Slavic (Sorbian) folklore with creative prose, a tight plot and interesting characters. The story follows the inhabitants of a water mill. However this is no ordinary mill, due to the fact that magic is tought there. I don't want to give away much of the plot, so all I shall say is that the power magic gives comes with an enormous price and that some highly traumatizing things happen to the characters.
