Hi Lee, it was nice meeting you at The European Woodworking Show on the 12th September, I'am glad I purchased the scorp, it's awsome, I like the white honing compound and the leather/suede you had for sale, I made a paddle strop for my shaving razors, it's works beautifully, I wish you good like with your projects, I am the guy with the walking stick and the white cap by the way, abbas, enjoyed the chat, all the best.

Yay, new techniques to try out! Thanks for sharing
@LeeStoffer9 жыл бұрын
Andrew Byham I'd strongly recommend avoiding the hollowing technique unless you can find some sort of protection for the wrist/forearm of the spoon holding hand. I've no idea what experience you have so don't want to try and tell you what you can and can't do but I had a few near misses developing this technique. It's fairly efficient but there are definitely safer ways to hollow a spoon bowl. Happy carving.

I'm ok with the hollowing with my hook knife, it's the axe work I'm interested in, and the finishing cuts. That's where I'm weakest. Cheers Lee, really helpful you sharing these videos

@LeeStoffer9 жыл бұрын
Survival Deutschland Thanks very much, the spoon scorp concept came from Chris Grant, a good mate of mine and top class blade smith, he made the first one I'd seen as a commission for me six or so years ago. I've been using them and developing the tool with Nic Westemann for a few years now with Chris's blessing. With Nic's input it's become a tool that I now produce for sale in small batches available on my website when in stock.

+Survival Deutschland I always use a glove, they help with holding the piece, and they minimize the severity of a cut.

Well done. Should be helpful. Our vision doesn't jerk when we chop with an axe, but it does show the forces at play that we compensate for! Is the lighter axe one of Nic's?
@LeeStoffer9 жыл бұрын
Lewis Ward Thanks Lewis, the amount of camera shake really took me by surprise! The lighter axe is one I made myself with Nic's tuition, the heavier one we made a couple of years ago demonstrating at the bodgers ball.

Good job thanks for sharing, how long have you been making spoons? Why don't people make Forks? Can you finish your spoons do you use any kind of wax with your oil? What kind of oil do you use if you use oil? I'm new to your community I look forward to hearing from you, bye for now God bless, Ken

Having carved my first spoon, I've concluded that you must have forearms of steel! Everything from the elbow down feels like a truck backed over it...

Bradford Taylor lol, Thanks Bradford, they get used to it after a while! just keep eating ya spinach and carving spoons and you'll have forearms like Popeye in no time!

I quit doing all of that axe work a lot of years ago. I will chop out just what I need to then switch to my knives.

+Lee Stoffer I used to do a lot of my spoons and bowls with an axe, shaving horse and a draw knife. My shaving hose rotted years ago and I have been too lazy to make another one. I talk to you when I'm watching your videos, and cringing because I have destroyed a lot of spoons over the years with my axe. Lol.

Sorry, but a minute and half into the video, I started to get a headache from the movement and vibration of the camera. Could have been a good video.
