There's really no proof supporting either theory. The packs could be all the same and the skip button skips the wheel. The packs could be all different and the skip button just chooses one randomly. Either is possible.

I think it's cool enough that there are bent and flipped over packs. I think it just appeals to us and the few people who actually pulled god-tier stuff out of those expressly because of them being attracted towards these different from usual packs just led to theories. That said, the game can probably capitalise on this and make all bent and flipped packs bad making people open more packs 😂

if you go to the offer rates on a pack (where you see percentage) i'm pretty sure it's written that the first step is to choose a pack, then, only then, the random of the cards starts to kick. basically packs have nothing inside until you pick one, then they get filled with cards

For those who are unaware, the game explains in the pull rates menu that the pack carousel phase determines whether the packs are normal or rare and the pack contents are only generated once you select a pack. Therefore, the theory is still potentially sound that bent packs have better odds than none bent packs of providing better cards.

The bent corner doesn’t guarantee rare cards but the pack may have a higher chance. I haven’t pulled rare cards out of all bent packs but I’ve definitely pulled rare cards more often in them.

I think this is what he's missing. Pokemon wouldn't have a clue that allows someone to always win or "game the system", but they could slightly increased rates for different circumstances. Even if that's bumping from a 10% chance to get an EX to a 20% chance. It wouldn't be a guarantee, but it would allow fans who are more careful or think they "have a system" to win slightly more often which may increase short-term or long-term engagement.

I would really love to believe this “bent theory” is a nothing burger (which it might be), but I pulled an Electrode full art 1 star from my second bent pack, and my brother pulled Mewtwo EX 2 star. Going to continue testing and come back here to update my luck and theory Update 1: So far I opened 2 bent backs. Both gave me new Reverse Holo Final Stage Pokemon card.

Cards are chosen the moment you decide to open a pack. No matter what you pick in the carousel, all the results will be the same. Just like coin flips were in the Game Boy version of TCG, where even if you retry a flip on the Switch version with the rewind feature, you'll always get what you had the last time. The only actual random factors in this mobile version are Wonder Picks and how you flip the coins.

I have a second theory it’s called the "magenta line theory" so basically you have to time your pack tearing correctly, so that the line is magenta the likelihood of it being a rare pack is increased the earlier you do it the more likelihood of it being a rare pack increases the earliest you can do it is immediately I have tested this theory before and it has worked. Dunno. I got the immersive Charizard, Mewtwo, and Pika from bent packs (specifically ones with a bend on the right side.) To be more specific I pulled Char first, then the very next pack I pulled Mewtwo. I then bought the $10 cheap PokeGold and went to pull Pika and full art Zapdos within 12 more packs. In almost every bent pack I opened, there was always at least either (a) A 3-Diamond Card (b) A card I didn't own yet (c) An EX Card or (d) Full Art cards and 2-stars. I pulled Full Arts for nearly 50% of the 20 total packs I opened that were bent. I mean, I will keep doing it because as such, but it also removes the remorse from feeling like you just chose the wrong one. I've had incredibly good results on my end, but maybe I'm just really lucky. 1 in 10,000 for b2b Charizard and Mewtwo? Otherwise 1 in 1,041 to get all 3 in 20 packs.

Thank you for a reasonable take on this - it is important! Giving a sense of control (especially via illusion of choice) to players is a well-known and documented strategy used in gambling. And selection bias of people advertising their "wins" only feeds into their strategy. I'm enjoying this game as well, but playing it requires responsibility and awareness that the goal is to create and prey on gamblers. Please continue to keep this in mind as you make these videos!

My friend also said that she’s been getting good cards from those too. It makes no sense for this to be real. There's a higher chance that there'd be something superstitiously true about Wonder Pick odds, because at least there you can reason that there was a mistake in the code and that it isn't truly random (though that's still very unlikely). During the first couple weeks of open access I swear that there was a bug where the wonder pick rare card would 95% of the time be in its original spot, but since then there's been a bunch of patches and I stopped noticing it.

Wonder Pick Trick Work 90% of time ! The 2 card at button aways goes up and one the 3 card at top will remain so is best to pick mid or the left one at the top , if you are looking to get a card at the top use same trick.😉

Based on how the appearance of the card packs, I think the devs tried to make it as realistic as possible, like you're able to turn it or you can find bent packs, etc. Especially the wonder thingy where if the player is JP then you'll see the cards appear as japanese which is a unique touch. It would be crazy amazing though if there were tiny details that would help out the rates, but if anyone has played fire emblem heroes then its luck luck luck all the way xD

in my experience, bent packs always gives me either a card that i do not have yet or a rare card(either of the two sometimes both). While in the flipped pack, i always see them in my second pack if i flipped the packs on the 1st time i open them. Like flip them all before i open my first pack, then when i come back to open the 2nd pack, some of them are already flipped.

I'm obviously not 100% sure, but the "skip" button makes me think the pack carousel is just for show and that the cards are determined the moment you click on "open a pack", before the carousel even appears. As developers, we're sometimes asked to do little tricks like this (i.e. some sites add loading animations just to appear to be doing stuff in the background), I guess in this case the idea is to give the user the illusion of control?

As other people have been saying, the cards are clearly generated before you choose a pack at all, and there's definitely no way to influence your odds. Alternatively though, there's a LOT of evidence being pushed around that these backwards or bent packs tend to have better pulls in them; I've even observed this with bent packs myself. It's very possible this is all just anecdotal evidence and confirmation bias, but I want to bring up one other possible alternative explanation: maybe the unique packs don't determine the rarity of the cards you get, but the cards you'll get generate different pack quirks (i.e. if you're going to get a rare card, they'll be more likely to spawn in a bent pack on the carousel). Obviously that's not how it works in the real world, so it's not something people are going to immediately think about; but through a digital medium, it's not only possible, but the only valid explanation I can come up with. That wouldn't change the odds AT ALL, but it would allow for theories and playground rumors to spring up, and more importantly, keep people's attention on the app. There's no way of me knowing for sure (maybe somebody could set up a big experiment to find out), but I think it's at least a possibility.

Is no one gonna talk about the pack and wonder hourglasses going to 1 for 3 and 6 for 18 shop tickets instead of 1 and 12? I feel annoyed for them doing this and i don't know why they would do this. Basically you have to collect all the shop tickets in the solo battle missions and after that? You basically have to pray that someone thanks you in wonder picks and PVP'S. And the free daily but you know. Feeling disrespected as an F2P here and idk what they're planning to make up for this.

My theory is that all packs are predetermined before you get into the pack selection but if you do get a bent pack it means that you’re guaranteed to get a rare card and the more bent the pack the more rare the card inside is.

0:50 I know it's random, but the pre-flipped packs have actually been the luckiest ones for me. I've gotten a ton of EX/star cards from them. I obviously do get duds, but those seem to be the lucky packs for my account

I'm so glad I still have spragels content to watch to. Everytime I end up playing Unite It is worse. Cause If you play less you end up in low rank or against bots... Let’s be real for a moment, we all know that the only real choice we have in picking a pack is which of the three sets, the carousel just give illusion of choice when in reality, the contents of the pack you open were already locked in the moment you selected the set. This doesn’t change anything probability wise, and I personally find it fun to give the carousel a good spin before opening. How do I know this? Well that’s because of the wonder pick when you first start, the card you get is predetermine, no matter which of the five cards you tap.

i have a theory that the game tries give you cards you don't have to balance things out by guessing where you will pick. i think it tracks your most frequent choice of card on Wonder pick and when it wants to give you the card it places it on the most probable position for you to pick. so... I started always picking the very same spot, I've been doing it for weeks now and well, I don't know if it is just random luck hahah, but I've got something like a 80% pick success with Wonder pick... I think I'll start to log the numbers 😂 if this is real then choosing packs where a rare card is the only card you don't have is the ideal scenario.

Personally, i just spin the entire thing around a couple of times like a prize wheel and just open the pack it stops on. Ive gotten a raibow alt art articuno gx and an immersive mewtwo in the same pack by doing that. The method doesnt mean anything. Its just fun to do.

haven't seen many people do it, but you can tilt the cards to see the borders while you're opening the pack to see if there's anything good if you want to do it slowly or something

i used to think the coin flips had real life physics so if you tossed it far you would always get tails whereas if you were to barely lift it, it would land on heads....its random no matter how you swipe

Maybe I'm just crazy. But I have noticed as you move around the wheel from pack to pack. Some packs make no noise at all. Others make a noise and have sparkles. Usually the packs that make noise and have a lot of sparkles (large and small dots) have a high likelihood of being a good pull.
