I feel you about the weather. B4 I got hooked on gardening & japanese maples in particular... it was always cloudy & rainy in SWPA. I hated planning ahead my work vacation (expecting it to rain the whole time), or buying $$$ passes for the amusement park on my days off, cuz it would likely close down bc of a t-storm. I never dreamed id have to ever water anything. My issue was finding moments between rains to keep up with the mowing! The minute I got into gardening (about 2019)...we had dry, crispy, lazer-beam sun without a cloud in the sky, consistently. Every year I'm confident next year will be better. Every year has been more oppressive than the last. Every icon in the extended forecast was like a punch in the gut with another ☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️🤦🏼♀️. Not that i dont love the beautiful sun, but it can be a killer! Praying for alittle skywater this year for 2024! Half the time, In traditionally PA, zone 6... don't know if I live in Arizona or Antartica.

Wow.. you think you got enough Japanese Maples?!! It’s a terrible addiction isn’t it? lol. I started a small collection myself. I’m stopping at 8. I’ve planted 2 in the ground & 6 in containers.

Your garden/collection looks amazing! Of the trees you have in the ground, how do you decide how closely you’ll plant each tree? That’s always a decision that kills me.

I plant my garden knowing I will be removing trees later as they grow bigger. I then sell the bigger plants. It is a little different than an average garden

Charlie you have lots of twombly red sentinel… are they pretty strong trees ?
@amazingmaples10 ай бұрын
Yes, Twombly's does very well in the smaller gardens since it stays narrow "for along time". I have had some that are really old start to get wide.

Thanks for the video. Could you recommend what maples you think have the prettiest colors in spring and summer. I don't care about colors in the fall. Zone 5-7 unfortunately 🙂

Shin deshojo is a great pink tree I would say Geisha Gone Wild would be another one and it can handle the weather

what is your experience with having them in containers vs planting in ground?
@amazingmaples3 ай бұрын
There is no comparison, in the ground is far better if you can. Unless you live where the soil is so bad thy can't live.

My favorte of them all is Acer palmatum 'Baldsmith' it has the best variety of color, it grows to a medium size that's not too big with great branch structure and it has AMAZING fall color

Is that a Twombly's red Sentinel at 4:27? I'm new and trying to get a gauge for the size and age. Beautiful trees!
@amazingmaples2 жыл бұрын
Hi, Thanks for watching. That is Acer palmatum 'Pixie' which is very similar to Twombly's Red Sentinel. You can see a Twombly's in the background at 6:22

This spring was no the best time with our bad weather and the lose of a family member. I have also been more focused on taking some of my trees and putting them in bonsai pots and caring for the. I hope to be more in the mood to do a video in fall.

@@amazingmaples So sorry for your loss. Life sure isn't easy. Enjoy your bonsai and I will keep watching the videos that are on here. I like it when Miss Piggy shows up. Your parents place is incredible! Hang in there and be nice to yourself. 🪴🍁🍀

@@vickiedouglas401 Thanks. So as it goes it is no longer my parents house and Miss Piggy no longer roams the garden. My mom went into memory care in the beginning of 2021 and no longer remembers the garden. Miss Piggy passed away in December 2021 and my dad passed away May 2022 peacefully at 94 y/o. It has been a lot of change. I am hoping to shot some videos in late summer or fall when I get my gardens organized.
