We here in the northeastern part of New York, USA, are still under snow, with more expected over the next 3 days. It's so encouraging to log on to KZbin and see a beautiful video from Paul T's World. You've gotten me so inspired to garden that I'm leaving retirement to work part time at a local plant nursery when it opens this year. What a wonderful opportunity to learn from those with much more experience. Thank you so much for your wonderful channel. 🌻🥀

Thank you Paul! How blessed are we to walk among your garden with you. You’ve so inspired me to try ideas I was apprehensive about. I so want my area to be planted like yours. Starting in May of 2022, I’ve converted my entire front lawn into trees and shrubs. Lots of Japanese maples and about everything I can get my hands on that will work here on my small farm in Northeast Oklahoma, 6b/7a. My goal is to never mow again😉✨💚

So nice of you to join me in the garden. Your area is going to be fabulous with all those trees and shrubs - as you know, I love shrubs - and trees! Would an amelanchier grow in your climate? I have one in the front lawn - so pretty and it’s a native of North America.

@@paultsworld Thank you for your reply. Interesting you’d mention Amelancheir. I’d been noticing them online for sometime. They’re so attractive. I didn’t know they’re natives. They could grow here for sure. I don’t think I’ve seen any here. I used to raise a cows now I’m down to 2 horses. I’m on 20 acres but it’s too much for one person to keep up so I go crazy at the house. This may amuse you. I live in Cherokee Nation territory. I have some native blood too lol!

The male Robin is busy trying to impressive his female - with mealworms provided by me! Thank you for letting me know you liked the music - I tried about 6 different pieces and plumped for this one. The lithodora does have such a blue - I wonder if any small bits of yours have survived? Mine grows well from just a small piece - it used to be much bigger so it has been knocked back a fair bit.

I hope this colder winter translates into a good summer for you, no heat wave or drought! I always put my order in at least! 😄 A good English banana has to survive now that it has been in the bath! Candytuft is the preferred larval host plant for the southern small white butterfly which is a butterfly which is spreading north in Europe and may soon reach the UK. I don't have candytuft but I do have arabis and pritzelago which, being European wild brassicas, I hope might be used by Green veined white or orange tip butterflies. The semi-double and single flowered camellias are great I think. Doronicums are great too, I first thought yours were double flowered but if it is Little Leo then its single flowered, and so probably good for insects like hoverflies.

The garden looks fantastic! Mine was under 10cm of snow yesterday (zone 6b, central Europe), today the snow is slowly melting. My forsythia is in full bloom but the other bushes are going to flower in a month or so, I think. Thank you for the tour!

Hi. Paul. Nice to see the early flowers and blossom. I am halfway through a bee keeping course for beginners, so it's good to see the bees enjoying the garden, too. Not sure whether I will end up keeping bees but the course is very interesting and I hope will help me plant a better choice of flowers 😊. Thanks again for a lovely video.

Hello Pauline, bees are so interesting. I have a friend who keeps bees and has hives put in various places where people want their crops pollinating. He also sells 100s of jars of honey. I am developing a 'spiky' area full of veronicas and liatris for the bees and did find last year that the monarda beebalm (a new plant for me) was rightly named.

Always so nice to see a new video from you. Your garden is so lovely with all its spring color. And it’s such a thrill to see your little robin still eating from your hand. ♥️ Spring is slowly coming to my Kentucky garden (zone 6b); we had a light frost last night and may get close to that again tonight. I have daffodils, narcissus and tulips in bloom along with wind flowers and snowdrops. My star magnolia was so pretty but got nipped by freezing temps a week or so ago. Wind is the biggest thing we’ve been dealing with this year - had a major wind event on Mar 3 with 80 mph gusts (that’s nearly 129 kpm!) and many plants suffered especially huge old trees which uprooted everywhere, taking out electrical lines, leaving many of us without power for days. More windy days in the forecast but nothing like Mar 3, thank goodness!

OMG Paul your videos just keep getting better especially with the Robin. I also got some plug plants last year and out of 72 I would say I’ve got 65+ going into my garden including Dornicum Little Leo. It’s actually just started to flower and is so pretty. I’ve just seen another offer on the same site for 50 bulbs, tubers, bare root and seeds for £8.00 and ordered them for my daughter. Amazing value.

Several years ago I tried looking for plug plants to buy on Etsy but instead of them this disgusting site showed me lots of photos of another kind of plug with big furry tails! So gross. I complained and they basically laughed at me. So I stopped buying anything from them. I would like to buy plants when they are small and affordable but I only see options where you need to get large #s of the same thing. Oh well.

My set of plug plants was 72 for £15. I received 6 plants of each type so there was quite a nice variety. That was with Thompson & Morgan in UK but I'm sure many companies do something similar.

Hi Paul you have such a lovely garden. I planted several Pieris Japonicas in mine & sadly they have black spots. Otherwise they seem to be fine. Is there anything I can do? They are in bloom right now.
@paultsworld
@paultsworld Жыл бұрын
Hi Sammy, sorry the plants have got black spot - it is difficult to cure - this is what I've heard: "Baking soda (1 1/2 tablespoons) and horticultural oil (3 tablespoons) in water (1 gallon) has also been shown to be effective for black spot control. For most products, you will need to treat every seven to 14 days from bud break until wet weather subsides". It might be because it has rained a lot. I am having a lot of trouble with powdery mildew on my pieris - for the first time ever - I am going to prune off the affected parts but on one of my plants it's the whole plant. Sorry I can't be more help.

Thank you. I am on the North-West coast of England and the zone is 9a. I get mild Winters with not many frosts - but this year there were quite a few frosts. I don't get deer or rabbits, so nothing - apart from insects - eats the plants. I have foxes and a badger that like to do a bit of digging every now and then.

Aul would you mind telling me about your evergreen azaleas in the pots. I would like to try that. How long have you had them in the pot? Is it something that can stay in the pot. Thanks! Do they get all day sun?
@paultsworld
@paultsworld Жыл бұрын
That's an interesting question. I find evergreen azaleas love pots - full of ericaceous soil. I buy them small and let them grow and flower for quite a few years in a pot - repot every couple of years or so and they can be in pots for many years. You can prune them gently or hard after flowering if you want them compact - I usually let them meander! Lately I've then started transferring them into the ground when they get very large. They're really a woodland plant and so like dappled shade - those that are at the front door are pretty much in full sun for 3/4 of the day and they do well. They like plenty of water. Give them slow release 'azalea' food in Spring and they're set for the year.
