Last year I used Sta Green Peeformance Max along with some GS Plant Foods humic and kelp. This coming year, I'm stepping the nitrigen down using the Sta Green natural fertilizer and then spraying SLS fertilizer until fall. Lawn looked great last year but I had so much growth I was mowing every 4 days and had to bag because of the amount coming off the top. Hoping to mulch more this coming year and lower the HOC on my zoysia. Also going to verticut it in the spring. Should be fun.

Great video. A question I have if you do not mind entering, is can I use 10/10 10 in June or July in the Las Vegas area? Our temperature is here have been right out about 90 but it's headed into 100° weather. This is a transition area and I have a combination of Bermuda and RTF tall fescue. I appreciate any information I can get from budget, meaning you. Thank you so very much and thank you so very much for having all your various videos. They're both entertaining and educational. And because I am not made of money they are definitely valuable to me. I tell all my friends in the Las Vegas area that they must subscribe to your channel. Again thank you.

Wow, thank you so much for the kind words, support and spreading the channel. I appreciate that. Glad my videos are able to help. I’ll usually get a little fertilizer down in June and July but cut back on the rate if it’s really hot like that. Of course, if it’s looking like it doesn’t need any, I won’t fertilize at all. This video is a few years old. I’ve tweaked my ways a bit with more experience. Hope this helps. Thanks again.

Hello! First off thanks so much for making these videos! They have helped me tremendously. My Walmart only has the 16-16-16 procare. Could I just apply 6.25 lbs to reach the 1 lb of Nitrogen per 1000 sq ft? Or would you recommend not doing that and try finding 10-10-10? Thanks in advance!

You're welcome. Glad they've been able to help. As long as you're getting down a lb of N/1000, that's all I shoot for. Or even a little less as the season goes on. I haven't double checked your math, but sounds like you've got that figured out. If that's all you can find, then I'd roll with it. That's what I would do at least. Hope this helps. Hey Travis! You mention in this video that some people say "you shouldn't put a 10-10-10 down on Bermuda". I was wondering what their reason for saying this is? It being balanced I don't see that it could hurt but I was curious to their thoughts behind this point.
@BudgetLawns

It’s the people that are sticklers about getting a soil test. There’s nothing wrong with using it. They just disagree because without a soil test, you don’t know if it even needs the Phos. Everyone tries to act like they’re some responsible lawn owner while throwing insecticides, fungicides, herbicides and all sorts of harmful supplements on their lawn. But too much Phosphorus is the end all be all. 🤣🤣🤣 makes me laugh at what makes people feel virtuous.

This may be a silly question, but we are new to lawn care; how do you safely fertilize with pets? We have 3 dogs. Can we feed half of our yard one week and the other half the next? What is your suggestion, how to folks with pets do it? Thanks!

Not a silly question at all. I’ve got a dog. I just fertilize and water it in. She’s never shown any interest in messing with it on the ground. She may sniff but that’s about it. Love all your videos! We are fertilizing for the first time on a Bermuda lawn in Alabama in new construction. Was looking at the ProCare 10-10-10 that you talk about but it says it is a fast release. Then we were also trying to find some of the milorganite. Which there are some stores around here that have it. Also was wondering how to tell if the fertilizer is organic or not? What would you recommend for the new construction Bermuda lawn. It was laid down a little over 2 months ago. Would the procare 10-10-10 be too strong?
@BudgetLawns
@BudgetLawns 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you. Congrats on the new home. I'm on a new construction bermuda lawn as well. Laid back in December. I'm using the Expert Gardener 10-10-10 from Walmart. Procare isn't in stock at my Lowes. I've fed it twice now with the Expert Gardener. I don't think it's too strong. The new lawn needs a little more of those nutrients to really get going. Normally, I would throw down a bag of Procare Natural with the triple 10 to get some slow release as well but haven't been this year to save a few extra bucks with gas and inflation going crazy. You can tell if it's the right organic product if it says it's made from biosolids. Always look for biosolid as the key indicator. Both Milo and the Procare Natural are biosolids. Hope this helps. Appreciate ya!

@@jasonmaltz7040 Yeah, you really don't wanna put the fert down until the lawn has greened up at least 50%. If not, the fert isn't really being used by the dormant grass that's not growing. It's a wast of time and money. Pre-emergent is good to go now for sure.

Good info for 101010. Not a lot of ppl know to use it especially if you haven’t done a soil test. But Organics work best in early summer time when temps start to warm up and the macros can break down the material. I bet your spring dead spot is grub damage I bet if you dig a bit up you’ll see from what I’ve experienced. If no grass is inside the rig then it’s probably grubs. IMO
@BudgetLawns
@BudgetLawns 4 жыл бұрын
Appreciate that. Thanks for commenting. You're right. If no soil test, just need to get something balanced in the spring and go organic in the summer. Here's a video I did about spring dead spot if you haven't seen it yet. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iKPMZqyin8R1d7M It's a disease that sets itself in in the fall and shows its ugly face in the spring when coming out of dormancy. Grubs is also another thought if there are dead patches. But I'm pretty sure this one is fungus related from spring dead spot as I had it last year as well. Thanks for your suggestion and watching. Great video. One thing I learned from moving from cool season to warm season turf is that you have to time that first application right in the transition zone. With my cool season turf in the north east, I could get out and throw down on 60 F days with no problem.... really as soon as the ground defrosted. With my Bermuda in the transition zone it was too soon. The Bermuda just sat there and all I ended up doing was feeding the POA mess in my yard (and wasting money)! I do love recommending organics and starter fert to new comers. However, I have known newbie to burn the turf out with a 10-10-10 or a 13-13-13 all purpose. So I normally recommend to complete newbies Scotts starter (NO WEED CONTROL in the south!!!). It is way more expensive, but it is a 24-25-4, with the N being a good mix of slow reason, coated, and quick release as not to burn out baby grass (however, it does not help K much).... why it is so expensive. It also will have a Scotts spreader setting. As for the K, most studies for Bermuda are mixed. Most show that you do what to put down some K every year, but the amount does not seem to matter much. Bermuda just want some quick K to pick up sometime in the year (or at least that is what one study says.... this is still my first year with Bermuda, so we will see).

Lots of great info in there man! Spot on. Definitely a timing game with bermuda in the transition zone. I'm always watching the forecast to get it just right. Awesome video, as usual. I usually use Scott's Southern Lawn Turf Builder. What do you think of using that along with the Pro Care Natural? Too much Nitrogen? I was thinking of either throwing them down together or using the Pro Care Natural in between applications of the Turf Builder.
@BudgetLawns
@BudgetLawns 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you. If you're putting down 1lb/1000, the organic will be a slow release that won't kick in right when the Scotts does. That's how I do it. I don't think it's too much nitrogen. The bermuda loves it. I'm going to dial it back in July and August to .50lb when we get into the brutal summer heat. Some folks like to stagger the fertilizer as you mentioned. For me, I just prefer to throw it all down at once. Since one is quick and the other is slow, it's like they're staggered anyway. And it saves you time. Thanks for coming back to watch man. Thanks for the feedback. I'll work on that. I must say, though, I went back to watch the video to get an idea of what you were talking about. I feel like I got to the subject pretty quickly. If you're referring to the request for subs, comments, etc... I would disagree that the likes & subs will come quicker on their own. I have more than a decade of experience in social media content creation and strategy. I've done my research and it strongly shows that a CTA (call to action) is one of the most effective ways to build an audience. Other creators and strategists agree. Plus, I don't just do this to share lawn tips. I'd like to create a community of friends that gather here to be part of something with like-minded individuals. Trust me, I always hated it when KZbinrs did that off the top of their videos. I swore I would not on my channel. I didn't do it for a long time and growth was slow. Gave it a shot and growth picked up tremendously. I know it's not what some viewers like, but in content creation, you have to work in percentages to build an audience. The overwhelming percentage says it works so do it. The people that don't like it, won't subscribe or will leave the channel. But that number will be way less than the ones who heed the call and hit that red sub button. I hope this makes sense, and I'm not trying to be argumentative. But a lot of folks don't know the inter-workings of social platforms online and I enjoy sharing it. I actually teach it too. I appreciate your support. Thank you for watching!
