I've had my eye on the Spyderco Manix2 for a while for the simple reason that I like Spyderco knives - both folder and fixed blade - and because this particular knife has a nice design. Not enough reason, however, to give me incentive to purchase it. Watching your review has helped me overcome indecision. A very good review.

Great video. I just bought the Manix 2 XL on the strength of this video as I wanted a big folder as a partner to a Kukri or Hatchet. Very pleased with it. It does cover all the bases. You should throw in a comparison video to the XL too.

Great comparison! I've kind of been on the fence between the G-10 & the "FRN" model, but I have a Byrd Rescue that I really like and the Translucent Blue BD-1 looks too sweet to pass up. I want to get one for my EDC rotation and give my PM2 a rest. Thanks again for another great video DOC!

My all black xl does the same thing when i close it, and my translucent blue does the opposite lol. I also agree with you about the steels. I love s30v, but that bd1 gets sooo sharp, and pretty quickly. But i think the thing i love most about the manix 2 is the ergonomics. IT IS THE most comfortable folder i have ever held.

MAN!... DO NOT resist getting This Knife in the CPM S110V. I just bought my first Spyderco in the Manix 2 Lightweight S110V at the Atlanta Blade Show. I'm relatively new to collecting EDC knives but THIS Knife is by far the best cutting and slicing knife that I have EVER used. It's so GOOD that I just ordered this knife in the G-10 with the same steel. And I DO own other quality knives in quality steel such as S35 VN,S30, VG10 and D2 steel.I'll SAY it AGAIN..., Nothing I have used, so far, holds THIS kind of edge with little to no maintenance.

Hey there Aaron! before buying a new EDC folder I did quite a bit of research and your review of the manix lineup convinced me to go check them out. I decided on the lightweight because of the price and the fact that like you said, I forget I'm carrying it! I've had this blade for 4 months now and it's done this Alberta boy very well! Thanks for another awesome review and keep them coming!

Ive been researching folders for some time now. I'm an American living in the Philippines for 12 years now. I bought an Esee Izula neck knife but it's not as hidden as I like and as you know were going through strange times here right now so I need something that will open boxes, food prep and easy to get to for the bad guy's. Manix2 really fits the bill.

Hey man, I know this video is 5 years old, but I just wanted to comment on what you said about sharpening. I like your channel because you address things from such a utilitarian perspective. You do talk about aesthetics sometimes, but generally you're utility-focused. Because of that, I think you'll REALLY like the Ken Onion edition WorkSharp sharpener with the blade grinding attachment. It will give you wicked edges SO fast, though they won't necessarily be the prettiest, but you can easily make them look clean. I think it took me less than an hour to put a new tip on my Para 3 after I dropped it and snapped the tip off. Takes a little time to get used to using it, but it will save you so much time in the long run. Only down side is it's a belt, so you'll get a slightly concaved edge, but I've not noticed any problems with that.

I carried a manix2 XL in S90v for a few years, little heavy but Sooo nice. Sold it for more than I paid for it!! By accident I bought a used Manix 2 frn($90) vs a XL in S110v, it is so light!! Love it, it's only weak in peanut butter spreading vs the XL, lol. S90v and S110v sharpening, they take more stones down low. My Kitchen knifes were easy on Shapton pro 1000 and 5000 grit, this took a long time on S110v. I added a 400 diamond plate (needed for stone leveling too), and a Shapton Pro 320(splash and go's, lol) If I Have a chip, 400 diamonds first, then 320, 1000, 5k. The burr is just small vs carbon steels. If the knife is somewhat sharp and I'm doing some kitchen knifes and using soakers, a Chosera 800 then 3k works WELL!!!!!!! The S110v on the 800 stone, the tip works the stone a little(I'm being gentle too). I had a cheap $15 China 400/1000 combo stone(total Bargain), the S110v and my weak Fu destroyed it, but my skills went up a little, lol, good sacrifice. Bark river BLACK compound on a stropp does help keep an edge, the white will dent it a little bit, the green not so much. Chosera 3k finish is cloudy, Shapton 5k, the mirror is starting, but I don't know what stone should be next(other to skip the Shapton 8 and 12k). Both the the 3 and 5k stones get the knife very sharp. I sold all my folders, except my Manix 2 S110v, I love it, if I get another folder, Benchmade big grip in 20cv has sparked my interest!

Another awesome review! I don't know if I could pick one folder as my favorite, but the two that I use the most in my EDC rotation is the Spyderco Paramilitary 2 with the multicam G10 scales and the ZT 350 Knife Works exclusive with the M390 steel. I just ordered the Manix 2 based on your latest video (3-31-2021). I discovered CRKT in the late 90s as a cop. I feel the M16 series does great at camping, EDC and excels at police work. In the past 4 years I’ve rediscovered knives and I carry mostly the 940 and Delica 4 along with the Bug Out. I can’t believe the amount of knives I have close to a hundred. So now I will have a Manix 2 tomorrow I am sure I’ll love it. I’ll still be searching for that perfect EDC knife for my artistic hands which the excuse I use to buy a new knife lol

I own 3 of these Spyderco Manix 2 , 1 blue Lightweight in CTS-BD1 steel and my favorite Brown G-10 M390 in satin and DLC coated version. These M390 limited edition are really nice , I installed the Flytanium ball bearing cage locks in them in brass and copper just excellent . The Manix 2 is my favorite Spyderco knife , I also like the Spyderco Endura a second favorite and I own 1 Delica in Cruwear DLC with OD green FRN a DLT Excusive . All my Spydercos are Exclusives or Limited editions except for the Blue Lightweight Manix 2. I live in Northern Colorado so I really like that the Spyderco Manix 2 is made in Colorado USA Earth .

Aaron, thanks for the review. I always enjoy your videos and you've talked me into and out of lots of knives and multitools. I have a question about the Manix 2, particularly the ball bearing lock. Long term, how does the lock hold up? I can't help but wonder what happens if the spring in the ball bearing lock goes out? Or what happens if the knife gets dirty while out and about. Will the knife be useless? I love the idea of the Manix 2 and I'm so close to getting one, but I have questions. Thanks in advance.

The same arguments "for" can still be made in 2019 -- the Manix 2 has not been superseded in its, to me, unique combination of strengths; and with regard to it's versatility, *particularly* in the lightweight version... not by Spyderco, not by anyone else's newer design. Your own set of priorities may be different, but if the argument made here really resonates with you, the Manix 2 remains a top go-to choice. Mine in the translucent blue weighs 2.92 ounces -- really sweet for this blade + handle size -- and it is comfortably grippable in *so* many ways, each with notably great *control* ! It's like having a smaller knife for precise tasks in a much larger medium-to-heavy-duty 'workhorse'. Form follows function here. A useful enough upgrade to BD1N blade steel would be iceing on the cake going forward.

It took about 9 months to get to be able to tighten the pivot all the way for a good closing but it’s here finally , lol . I got another one right out of the box drops perfect like a pm2 . Still , it wasn’t bad besides just before about to close it would stall , lol . Now it’s super smooth 👍.

good vid man. Got a g10 inbound, didn't really like the paperclip on the light, but you emphasized on it. I'll have to check it out now. 👍

Just got in a Manix 2 S30V today and so far -Oh yea. I use to have the Manix 2 Lite, but gave it to a friend. However, this one I plan on keeping.

Great vid Aaron and great timing too cause I've been looking to purchase one of these lately! Just curious though, is the spine 90 degree on the back? I like to have folders I can use with ferro rods if possible =)

I've got four. A lightweight with CTS-BD1N, a lightweight with CPM-SPY27, a standard S30V and an XL with S30V. I love my standard G10 with S30V the most followed by both the XL and the SPY27. I used to be a PM2 guy of which I've got three but I noticed this lately, I seem to prefer the Manix 2.

Best pocket knife ever! It’s a great knife for sure, I have three with plans to get at least three more variations. The blade shape is perfect, as is the grip. I have it in S30V (Blk/Blk), S90V (Sprint Run Burl G-10), & S110V. LW Blue FRCP). I’m gonna get in in BD1 translucent blue, S110V G-10, and S90V Orange FRCP. Seriously gonna get enough of them to last me the rest of my life. Sharpening these steels is no problem. It can be done in 5 minutes (S110V for example) on a DC4 pocket sharpener.

I completely agree. I lost my manix 2 a few years ago and tried many other knives to see if I would like a replacement but after about 5 years and 6 knives later I'm ordering a new manix 2. There's no other knife that can fill its place.

Did a overhaul of selling & giving away knives so now I have 6 spydies a crkt & a victorinox multi. I’m gonna collect spydies only for now. I either carry my pm2 or manix 2 lw. Was gonna order another pm2 but decided to try the g10 manix cause why not? You’ve convinced me

Great Channel, Great videos, Thank you. I think you made a good choice with the Manix but since you made the video Cold Steel came out with a new Lawman in XHP steel. Do you think it might be even better than the Manix?

Lol @ "stabbing tasks". The use of "cutting tasks" and "purchase" in every knife review is really beginning to grate on me. So far so good on this one : )

Para 2 for me. For some reason, I like the lock on Para 2 better. I think EDC knife is the most important choice to make as far as knives go. It's your true survival knife, the proverbial "knife you have on you in a survival situation."

Agreed. I can't imagine a spring ball bearing lock will hold up against dust, dirt, and debris like the PM2 will.
