I have never seen someone do a squat jump the way the girl was first demonstrating. This video fixes a mistake very few people do.
@sowhat...4 жыл бұрын
You mean very few people do this mistake?

maybe the mistakes are not done by many. but the proper way of doing it demonstrated was actually very good

fact: if in the air muscle tension is zero. the effect of the full time under tension is neglected in this description. full range of motion is not always the best option. it depends on the goal. if performance and athletism is the goal go for it. if muscelgains is the goal dont go full range and stay under tension

It would be great and so helpful if you could do a video on different exercises to train your glutes, back, legs etc. (different parts of the body). That would make it possible for your viewers to do those at home. Or do you have something like that on your channel already? Thanks for all the tips!

Thinking I'm still young and strong like my military days, did some squat jumps and that gave me disc herniation, now after 5 years still I'm suffering from lower back pain on one side! BE CAREFUL on what you do.

Great video. What I would add is that "jumping without the arms swinging forward and up" is NOT a functional movement. All movement should be about functional movement. The worst is when I see people doing squat jumps and they actually throw their arms backward as they come off the ground. I cringe every time.
@tennisenginenet45734 жыл бұрын
Agree. Seems like half the videos on youtube throw the hands backwards which is poor efficiency.
@liyenong20173 жыл бұрын
Hmm I think that swinging the arms up and forward is not an essential functional movement when it comes to jump squats. Whike I agree that swinging your arms up in the air would make you jump higher, the goal here is to engage and use the glutes, legs and ankle muscles to become stronger. you don't see any ballerinas forcing themselves to lift their arm up for every jumps, and well a person who doesn't jump up well using their legs won't get additional benefits from landing down roughly from an higher altitude. 😉
@JohnBreezy223 жыл бұрын
@@liyenong2017 Fair enough. It seems swinging the arms back is a relatively new thing. To me it looks awkward. I think most movement (take ballerinas out of the equation because they are artistically performing) should be done in a manner that optimizes movement efficiency. I see the “jump squat” as a movement derived from athletics. In particular standing long jump, high jump, etc. Yes the arms help increase elevation and distance, but they are also meant for balance and efficiency. The arms back jump seems to provide no benefit. Whether or not my jump is for a competition or a workout, I think movement efficiency is an important part it. What is the benefit of throwing the arms back?
@liyenong20173 жыл бұрын
@@JohnBreezy22 The thing is, there is no force used in the swinging back arm, it is just a normal reaction of an arm swing. look at the person initial squat position, their hands will be in front of their chest at rest, elbows bent, otherwise you expect them to hang low their arms like a monkey and touch the floor? when they jump up, they relaxed their arms, the swing is accelerated by the jump, thus it swing back further. you can try by placing your hand in centre front of your chest like in a prayer mode and release it, it will automatically swing backwards as the tension from the bent elbow is released, causing the arm to go in the opposite direction that is from front to back. so how is this not a functional movement? the same applies for walking, your arms naturally swings as you walk. I wouldn't think of squat jumps belonging to the long or high jumps as the way they jump and land (note that high jump has a mattress for landing safety, an extremely high altitude is not safe for plain ground landing) is different. I think it is more towards basketball, especially with the mention of arm swung high (they need to use all possible body part to reach as high as they could), with very high jumps bring great risk of ankle injuries if you land wrongly. lots of non athletes people do not know the technique of landing safety, they may land on their heels, or not bend their knees back to soften the blow of landing causing bad pressure on their feet (increase risk of joint pain). but yeah no dislike on raising your arms up as it is like a cardio session for the arms and to maintain arm/ shoulder mobility, but when most people think of jump squats, they want to build their glutes and legs.
@liyenong20173 жыл бұрын
@@JohnBreezy22 Oh and I forgot to mention about ankle mobility does matter in how much pressure your knee joints receives, if your ankle mobility is good, your squat should go past your toes when during the landing motion, I noticed that by landing with knees just above feet level and not past toes, the force will travel thru your knees, however with knees over your toes, the impact is reduced to feeling none really. Check out this KZbinr kneesovertoes guy for more details
