I have issues with back squats due to my long femurs. I end up leaning forward and after a few sessions I get back issues. I found box squats helped a bit to correct this. The belt squats were a game changer. From looking at David Gray who's competing at world powerlifting level he has them in his routine.

Well done Colin three plates each side great workout. Out of curiosity what was going through your mind when you lost your concentration/focus when you squatted 120kgs. Some times your mind wonders when you train on your own and you have to kick your self up the backside to get your mind in gear.

Squatted 3 days ago, hit 250 lbs for 10, then I put 295 lbs on the bar, got it for one and failed on the second. That 45 lbs made a world of difference. Maybe my old 57 year old skinny body will try it again. Bench today was crap due to a bad shoulder, oh well, at least I showed up. Nice 315 for that triple!!

It depends on what your wanting to improve, strength or muscle size, generally heavy weights + low reps increases strength gains and lighter weights + higher reps increase muscle size. Tom Platz believes reps are more important than the weight ( 20 rep squat routine has proven to add size for many over a long time ) Platz would do sets of 20, 30, 40 & 50+ reps a set!! He trained with high reps for high intensity but he only trained his legs once every two weeks - the harder or higher the intensity you train with, the more time you need OUT of the gym!
@petermiller15652 ай бұрын
Although I have the utmost respect for Tom Platz, he was a heavy user of gear, and we cannot assume that the training modalities used by any heavy steroid user will bring about the same results for naturals. That being said, sets of 30, 40, and 50 will do more to improve your cardiovascular endurance than they will to induce hypertrophy, and although I’m sure that after a set of 50 squats you probably feel like you’re about to die as you gasp for breath, you are not doing nearly as much to build muscle, as you would increasing the weight substantially, and doing sets of 10-12 (no more than 1 rep shy of failure) for hypertrophy, and for strength doing sets of 2 to 4 again going 1 rep shy of failure. Ideally, you’d want to squat twice a week, and use some type of periodization whereby you’d either have one heavy day and one volume day, or a 10-12 week block, of heavy, followed by a 10-12 week block of volume. Trust me, if you are truly 100 % natural, my suggestion will yield far better results than sets of 30, 40, 50. Do yourself a favor and apply critical thinking when evaluating the training protocols of heavy steroid users. Although there are some whose training is spot on, there are many others whose training leaves a lot to be desired. Just my unsolicited opinion

@manfredmann27662 ай бұрын
Platz can still do 4 plates on the bar in his late 60s. Back in the day he did 525 lbs for 23, and that is not light, for sure.
@petermiller15652 ай бұрын
@@manfredmann2766 First of all, it’s not light to me and it’s probably not light to you, but ANY weight that someone can rep out for 23 is most assuredly too light for them. Also, Platz was a heavy steroid user, which contributed greatly to his ability to move that much weight for those many reps. Good luck as a natural trying to ever attain 525 lbs for 23 reps all to full depth on a back Squat. My whole point is that as a natural, training modalities and programming are far more instrumental in developing insane strength and gaining lean muscle mass than for a heavy steroid user. I’m not saying this to disrespect Platz or impugn his accomplishments, but the reality is he made a personal choice to use gear. His training method of doing super high rep sets for legs wouldn’t yield the same results for a natural, as this is not the optimal way to train for strength and size.
