You are correct, this is a true p/j bass in electronics and build. So in addition to p and j pickups you also have a precision body and a jazz neck 1.5 in at the nut. I have the vintage modified precision bass pj is basically a straight p bass(body and neck) with a single coil j pickup in the bridge. Great playing

A very enjoyable review, nice to see a review where the reviewer does not have an armful of decorative tattoos and/or a wool winter cap that looks absurd when worn indoors and slap the living daylights out of the instrument. I have 1 of these basses in sunburst, bought in a pawnshop a few years back for about $100 US and I'm floored by the sounds I can get out of it. Let me preface here that I haven't played a gig in 42 years and my playing time was roughly, 1969-1979. mostly using a Gibson EB 2 and then a Fender Tele Bass. Now, being old and an empty nester, I can indulge myself and buy a few basses that appeal to me. This Squier absolutely blows me away with the sounds it can make and I only wish there was a bass this superior back when I was a beginner. The only exception I can make between mine and this one is that mine weighs at least 10 pounds if not more but the sounds and the tones I can get just out of a little 35 watt practice amp are amazing. Well done, sir.

This bass sounds incredible for the price. Give this bass to Getty Lee and tell folks it’s a $3,500 custom Fender...in other words the player has a lot to do with final sound. I’m getting one...same cost as a nice dinner and some drinks so can’t lose with this tonal addition to my arsenal.

i know this is an old thread, but i just picked up the same bass in a pawn shop special for a couple hundred. i installed the geezer butler emg pickups, changed the pick guard to black , and i now have an excellent badass sounding bass geezer clone (looks like a lakeland enough) that has great action and feel. i dont buy into this "beginner bass" crapola. doesnt matter how expensive it is, if it looks good , sounds good , plays good... then it IS good.

Yeah it's a good tune with a great bass line, most definitely look at the Squiers especially the classic Vibe models you'll think you're playing a fender top notch quality

I got a black 2004 Squire Standard P Bass with P and J pickups, jazz neck, and p bass body. Made in Indonesia, by Cort, it was part of the black and chrome series, but someone changed out the chrome pickguard and replaced it with a red torti one. My bass has the black headstock and says Standard. It's a wonderful bass, I got it for $40 from local pawn shop, I installed new strings, Fender Nickel plated steel 7250's, 105, 85, 65, 45, perfect for jazz, rock and slap funk.

@@theguitarmanifesto IN the store I tried a number of new Fender and Squier basses and the Squier Affinity Precision PJ bass played as well as any and the tone was stronger and deeper than the rest to my ears. My purchase wasn't about the label or the price, it was about which bass I desired the most! :-)

That's a nice sounding bass. Doesn't hurt to have the extra options. Not sure if the more J Bass width at the nut makes it easier or harder to play (I don't remember playing a J Bass). Nice bit of grunt and growl to it though!

It's a nice option though I do prefer an out and out of bass, the neck is a lot slimmer compared to a P bass also the J pickup annoyingly gets in the way. She does sound nice though

I've got one Squier Affinity Jazz & P-Bass each but I want to upgrade to these Squier Standards pronto as the Squier Standard Teles and Strats in my collection are also great wee guitars in their own right*. Leo Fender got it right first time with the Precision and Jazz basses - even cheap knock-offs built to the same scale lengths, measurements and dimensions can sound almost (!) as good as any real Fender! *Saying that something is a "great wee [something]" is a uniquely Scotch term of endearment, meaning that the item(s) in question are of great quality for the price, punch well above their weight in terms of value, performance, looks and durability and make for a very sound investment indeed!

To be honest I think the stock pickups sounds great, maybe look at upgrading your pots and cap first

The neck on the Jaguar is short Scale that's probably the main thing to think about

I'd say get the one with the long scale neck. I got the Jaguar. It's great but I prefer a long scale.

Hey man, I just got me a black lefty Squier Pbass on guitar center just like yours(but without the extra pickup). It is my first bass guitar. Could you use a guitar amp for a bass? I have 3 guitar amps and really don't want to get another amp. Would it work if I keep the bass settings low and/or keep it at a lower volume? I have a little Fender 15 watt amp with an 8" Celestion Super 8 speaker, a Fender Champion 40 watt with a 12" Eminence Man o War, and a Peavey Ultra 60 head with matching 412 Peavey stack, which has the original old 1980s Sheffield speakers. Would either of those amps work with a bass or am I beat? I hope so, because the wife won't agree to another purchase in these Corona times lol.. Thanks man.

Try the Peavey with it. There's nothing wrong to plug a bass guitar into a guitar amplifier. Some bass players actually do that (Lemmy, etc...). I did that once when I had no bass amp, and it sounded good. Just cut a bit of medium frequencies and had a little more bass. Cheers?

Black is one of my least favorite guitar colors. But you wouldn’t think that considering both of my basses are black. You should get a Fender mustang bass. I played one and it was a lot of fun. Awesome video as always.

Just bought a squeir standard precision bass. What years were these made? The back of the tuning head has decals worn off but I see S/N IC04------- were they built strictly in Indonesia, or were some built elsewhere?

Ic is Indonesia Cort factory 04 is 2004 made. Not sure if they were made in China as well? Buy they were early to mid 2000s

I'd recommend something with humbuckers, probably an HSS or HH strat. Go to a guitar store & see which guitar feels best for you. You can change the sound & looks more easily than the feel & playability. But pick something that you like the look of, otherwise you'll hate it & never play it. Something with coil splits would also give you a lot of sounds. What's your budget?

My favorite Precision Bass from Squier Sadly, they don’t make these anymore. I have the 5-string version of this bass since mine came from the same series. It’s a 20th anniversary bass which came out in 2002. However, my bass has 2 black solid Jazz Bass pickups.

I think they now make them under the model name "Vintage Modified" instead of "Standard Precision." It's still a Squier PJ made in Indonesia and has all the same features you pointed out on the bass in your video. And it still sells for $300 USD (I just ordered one yesterday -- should be here in a week).

The Meat Manifesto The recent Classic Vibes Fender released for 2018 & 2019 are made in Indonesia. I’m also of Indonesian descent born and raised in the States. They do make affordable, cheap but playable bass guitars. The Classic Vibe Jazz Bass fretless is something new to check out. I can’t wait to try it out if my local music store has them on stock. Again, they’re new and I can’t wait to get my hand on them. :)
