I put a brand new Dura Ace chain on my bike, after a 3 stage clean of petrol/degreaser then 99%IPA and have used this on one ride so far- it's so much smoother and quieter! I wish I'd waited though and maybe done a hot wax immersion first, I've since bought the "wax heater", wax and PTFE powder but now I need to figure out how to deep clean it again. Was hoping to hot wax then "top up" with the Squirt to prolong intervals between the hot waxing....

So to answer that, put on 12 hours before your ride. The wax is suspended in water, so the water needs time to evaporate off so to leave only the wax behind. Hope that helps you in the future.
@methylmercury3 ай бұрын
@@Jason-yp6jq It was fully dried out. Still black paste, as if it was olive oil on the chain. The only difference, I can use organic household cleaner to remove the black stuff, because there is no grease,, however, it's just as dirty to touch as the grease. Should the little circular bits turn easily when rolled by the finger? Degreased and washed they do, but as soon as I was they feel clogged up and hard to roll.

If they roll, there's nothing separating the metal. Think of ball bearings in a headset with the grease...they shouldn't roll freely.

I’ve applied squirt for the first time after degreasing and cleaning the chain. The chain now is very sticky to the touch. I’m in warm conditions and have left the bike out in the sun for about 2 hours. Is it meant to be sticky and if not how long to dry?

Yes. Don’t “dish washer soap” the chain
@clementparis381810 ай бұрын
I went here for the same question, thank you! What I've noticed is that the squirt lube doesn't like water so much and soap even less. It removes a good part of the lube. Sometimes my bike gets super dirty after a ride in the mud, I would have no choice than deep cleaning it, transmission included, in which case I would reapply wax afterwards. So generally speaking if you are a dirty cyclist you'll just end up using more wax in the end I guess 😁 Great video btw!

@gregmorrison73202 жыл бұрын
That's what I've been doing but I ride in very dusty hot conditions (gravel) and the chain comes home filthy, running it through a rag feels as if I'm pushing a lot of that crud into the links which would make getting fresh wax in difficult. I'm going to try running it through a rag before a ride to remove some of the wax which seems to be attracting a lot of dust etc.
@cyclinginsoutherncalifornia2 жыл бұрын
Try that and let me know what happens. What happened when you used oil?
@gregmorrison73202 жыл бұрын
@@cyclinginsoutherncalifornia Yeah same thing really but the chain would be degreased when washing the bike so the new oil would get in and the Finish Line dry did not seem to be so thick and stick to the chain as much and re lubing would run through a rag after and remove more black stuff but it felt like the lube was worked into the links. I think next time I wash my bike (which is not that often in dry dusty conditions) I will try boiling a jug of water and tipping it over the chain much like oiling the chain as I turn the pedals backwards, perhaps spray it with Simple green first, then flush it with water and dry then re apply Squirt once fully dry.
@ahkl772 жыл бұрын
I would hose down the wheels, drivetrain, fork, downtube and seat/ chain stays after a ride in light dirt or a rainy day. I then separately rag dry the bike and drivetrain. I put Squirt in after every 100kms on the road.

Since you were in the rain, it's already wet. Clean it well, dry it off (let the hot California sun dry it or use a hair dryer to get all the water out), then apply a lot of wax. That's what I'd do.
