It's that time of the season when the good teams play their best football. Which team will hit their stride in this game?

None of the #1 tandems selected by the networks since then have been worthy replacements. Jim Nantz + Tony Romo, Al Michaels + Chris Collingsworth have been pretty good. Joe Buck + Troy Aikman are O.K. But nobody has been able to replace Madden and Summerall.

Agreed. 79 thru 89 was probably the best 10 year stretch for NFL football.

Gene Stallings was a Cowboys assistant from 1972-85. Two months after this game, he was in St. Louis. Last Cardinals game on Thanksgiving until 2008 when they lost the night game in Philadelphia.

@comfortat Жыл бұрын
@@mycolortv1 YOU must be kidding. Danny White was a great passer. He took the Cowboys to 3 straight NFC Championship games, including a remarkable comeback against the Falcons in 1980 to get there. In the 1981 title game, he staked Dallas to a 27-21 lead before Montana's amazing pass to Dwight Clark. After that, he made several passes to get them across midfield before he was smashed in the pocket and fumbled. He then led them to 3 more playoff runs. Dallas had a winning record in his first 7 seasons as their starter. White also filled in for Staubach in the 1978 playoff game against the Falcons, after Roger was knocked out with a concussion. Danny led a great comeback win to catapult Dallas to the NFC Championship game. You apparently have never watched White very much. His only issue was having to follow in Staubach's footsteps. The Cowboys went 59-24 in his first 83 starts, a 71% winning %. That's one of the best records of any QB in history. He also had a QBR in those 7 seasons of 84.1 which was very good for that era. He threw 139 TDs in 82 games from 1980-1986, with only 106 INTs. In none of those seasons did he ever throw more INTs than TDs. He was a very good QB, a good runner, AND a terrific punter. Only Montana and Ken Anderson had better stats in that span. Fouts had more yards, but he threw way more INTs, and his QBR only slightly better than Danny's. Fouts also did not lead his team to the playoffs after 1982. The Chargers were 48-40 over the same time period with Dan at the helm, and he threw 23 more TDs and 20 more INTs than White in 5 more games and 800 more passes. His QBR was 86.0. He took them to the AFC Title game only once. Fouts threw more than 20 INTs in a season FIVE times, Danny, only twice. Fouts was a year older than White, so they are direct contemporaries. You really should educate yourself before making snarky comments. Peace

Jets fan here but I remember Lomax and man he could throw it and led many great comebacks or almost comebacks like Week 2 1987 when he brought the Cardinal back from 28-0 at halftime to 28-24 final and if Earl Ferrell didn’t drop a Easy TD pass late in the game they would have won it 31-28

Wow, great !! I never saw this game when it was played as I missed it when it was aired back home. The Cards played good for a team that was 4-8 in the first half but fell apart in the second half. Thanks for posting. This came two weeks after the Cowboys suffered their worst defeat at home ever by the Bears 44-0.

1985 was supposed to the year for the Cardinals. It ended up being an absolute nightmare. Lomax from the first game on never looked like the QB that lit it up the year before. In fact if you look at the whole season the first half of this game was probably the best he played the entire season.

Cardinals had the talent at this time, but they just never took that next step. Hard to do when you had the Giants, Redskins, and Cowboys in the NFC East feasting. Even when the Cowboys fell off a little after the early to mid 80's, the Eagles soared right back.

It all turned sour when the Cards lost 23-0 on MNF in Washington. The most infamous moment came in week 14 when players wore solid red socks vs. the Saints. The NFL fined the Cardinals for that.

Cardsnals was a good team
@Gen-X-Memories15 күн бұрын
Looking back I think that 3-1 start was really smoke and mirrors. They absolutely stole the opening game at Cleveland which they should have lost. They did look good when they beat the Bengals. After reading the box score on Monday after the week 3 loss at the Giants I knew something was wrong. The win against Green Bay was helped because Lynn Dickey didn't start. I guarantee you if he started the Cards probably would have lost to the Packers. Then they were totally exposed and got there asses whipped at Washington on MNF. The Cardinals had beaten the Skins in St. Louis the year before and almost beat them again in week 16 at RFK. You could even argue that the Cards outplayed them in the second game. I think the Skins came out that Monday pissed off with a head of steam because the Cardinals had at times made them look bad the year before. There were many factors that led to the awful season but from week 1 it was obvious that the magic they had the year before was gone.
