10/21/14 - St. Paul & The Broken Bones nearly blew the roof off Boston’s legendary Paradise Rock Club - and on a Tuesday night, no less. The soulful Birmingham Alabama rock band left the sold-out crowd in a state of delirium that lasted long after the unforgettable 90 min set. This is the full set from Boston (minus covers) - see link below to watch their cover of David Bowie’s “Moonage Daydream”.
Lead Vocalist, Paul Janeway, sat down with Front Row Boston before the show to talk about everything from almost becoming an accounting to his Mom throwing away his Nirvana CD.
St. Paul & The Broken Bones debut album, Half The City, was released in 2014.

When my friends walk into my living room and see Paul Janeway on the big screen spilling his heart out in song they routinely say, "Wow, he doesn't look like he sounds." It's the same thing the Swampers heard when legendary rock and soul acts made their way to record in Muscle Shoals forty something years ago.

I went to college in Birmingham, AL and I was able to see them when they performed a free concert in town. It was one of the most impressive shows I’ve been to, up there with My Morning Jacket, Leon Bridges, and City and Color when he put out If I Should Go Before You. If I could see them with two other bands it would be Alabama Shakes and The Revivalists.

How did it take me so long to discover my new favorite Band? I ran into them in the Memphis airport on their Way to London and took a listen. Whoever thought you could combine Al Green, Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett and Drew Carey? Paul Janeway has said that he relates to Bruce Wayne. But he is definitely more Real than BATMAN!

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW!!! NO WORD IS ABLE TO DEFINE WHAT I AM FEELING NOW. JUST THANK YOU. The most interesting thing about living is to see that even with so much cruelty and pain in the world, the human being is also capable of doing beautiful things like that. You touched me deeply, and thank you for tearing me from the inside out with that energy, I felt free. thank you.

The guitar at 13:20 is channeling Duane Allman in his Muscle Shoals days. One the best bands and tightest performances that I've heard in a long time. Having grown up in Macon, GA in the 60"s & & 70's, I've seen some classics. This is as close as it comes. Some bad ass Bama boys. Thank God that there's still some real music being made.
