When my friends walk into my living room and see Paul Janeway on the big screen spilling his heart out in song they routinely say, "Wow, he doesn't look like he sounds." It's the same thing the Swampers heard when legendary rock and soul acts made their way to record in Muscle Shoals forty something years ago.

I went to college in Birmingham, AL and I was able to see them when they performed a free concert in town. It was one of the most impressive shows I’ve been to, up there with My Morning Jacket, Leon Bridges, and City and Color when he put out If I Should Go Before You. If I could see them with two other bands it would be Alabama Shakes and The Revivalists.

How did it take me so long to discover my new favorite Band? I ran into them in the Memphis airport on their Way to London and took a listen. Whoever thought you could combine Al Green, Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett and Drew Carey? Paul Janeway has said that he relates to Bruce Wayne. But he is definitely more Real than BATMAN!

The guitar at 13:20 is channeling Duane Allman in his Muscle Shoals days. One the best bands and tightest performances that I've heard in a long time. Having grown up in Macon, GA in the 60"s & & 70's, I've seen some classics. This is as close as it comes. Some bad ass Bama boys. Thank God that there's still some real music being made.

Not bad, but it's painfully clear he's adopted the voice tone and intonations/fluctuations of a few Motown singers from the great god ol' days, most notably Al Green, and I would also suggest Marvine Gaye, The Temptaions, even the queen of Motown Aretha Franklin.
