Mike Taylor Whilst Afrikaans is a harsh sounding language when spoken, it seems to be the most 'musically appropriate' of the Germanic languages. Afrikaans is renowned for being extremely expressive, and lyrically, it is very poetic. I am an English speaking South African who speaks both German and Afrikaans while at the same time am able to understand - to a fair extent - Dutch and some of the northern Germanic languages i.e. Scandinavian. By FAR, Afrikaans is my favourite language for listening to Germanic language music...
