BIG mistake on my part. I said it was Herman goring who flew to Britain and died. It was rudolf hess and he did not die but was captured. Not sure why I messed that part up! I’m pretty sure I was combining things with the flight into Belgium. I will be placing a small edit to remove that specific statement for OBVIOUS reasons

There's just no way Poland and USSR would ally. They had a large territorial and political conflicts, and unlike the Germans, Poles lack the pragmatism to ally with their biggest enemy (yes, up until 1939 it was the Soviet Union that was though of as the main threat)

@@brutusthebear9050 and how would they secure lebensraum without annexing poland? poland has fertile land, they're slavs, and the government was anti-german: these are all things the NSDAP used and would still use for their justification of annexing, genociding, and colonizing poland. poland also had a large jewish population: would germany tolerate that? the answer is obviously no. germany annexed far more territory from poland than just danzig, poznan, and katowice: look at any map of the generalgouvernment.

i mean... it kinda was, tbh germany gave austria a blank check to do whatever they want to serbia and then willy fucked off on a boat. when war came germany invaded and desecrated belgium and engaged in unrestricted submarine warfare, delibsrately sinking neutral civilian shipping such as the lusitania. germany also introduced mustard gas, germany also helped incite the russian civil war (based critical support for comrade wilhelm), and germany tried to encourage mexico to invade the US. germany was by no means innocent, and was just as fault for the way WW1 went as austria-hungary

@@AlexFnafer not much changes probably aside from less purges (yezhov probably never becomes head of the NKVD) and the NEP lasts a little longer before being abolished. by the end of his like bukharin was if not _supportive_ of collectivization then at least leaning towards it. there's little reason to believe that he did this just to court stalin: the NEP was never meant to be permanent and when the scissors crisis came and completely invalidated its continued implementation collectivization would eventually come. collectivization is probably less common and brutal, though. dekulakization will still happen (most kulaks were reported by their own employees) and so will the 1932 famine (which was unavoidable: it's probably not as bad, though). when germany invades come the 40s, the USSR is probably in a similar position after WW2. bukharin probably doesn't make so many missteps with bureaucratization but it's gonna come without a big force to stop it, which nobody in the government really cared about (one of the biggest flaws of the USSR!)

Have you ever been to South Tyrol? As far back as the 90s, the locals didn't want to be Italians and would at least figuratively spit on Italian tourists. IIRC it's calmed down since, but while the Rhaetic areas are linguistically closer to Italian, they're culturally Germanic. Suggesting Tyrol would be given to Italy makes no sense unless you're Mussolini and will just take anything you can get for free.

(this, of course, was a stupid idea, because he was nothing if not stupid) after germany enters a war against the west there is no world where the USSR doesn't fight germany with them. germany wanted to invade the USSR and the USSR wanted to invade germany as early as 1938 when they proposed a mutual defense agreement with the UK and france.

@@piyo744 Hitler didn't want to fight UK to begin with as he viewed Germany as weaker then France and UK combined. This is why Molotov-Ribbentrop was signed and why it was agreed with Mussolini that his invasion of Greece would coincide with german and soviet invasion of Poland. Because Hitler believed that UK and France would chicken out on declaring war on all 3. They didn't. And they didn't declare on USSR. And both Stalin and Mussolini postponed their invasions to evade wrath of UK and France. So yeah, threeway war is 100% what Hitler hoped for in case war couldn't be avoided. And yes, his goal since 1934 and even before that was always invading the east. Invasion of Poland was just getting him a foothold to invade USSR. That's why fighting France and UK would be counterproductive to his main goal. So it's my turn to ask, what are YOU on about, eh?

The Japanese wouldn’t have attacked the oil tanks. The Japanese perceived that the Americans had so much oil that a local disruption would not have caused the Americans any difficulties. After WW2, the Japanese planners were asked why they didn’t attack the oil tanks.

For example, during Operation Weserübung, Germany lost several key ships, including the heavy cruiser Blücher and multiple destroyers. These losses reduced their naval strength, making it even harder to contest the Royal Navy. Without these losses, they would have had a better chance to at least challenge the Royal Navy, even if the odds were still against them. The invasion of Norway directly impacted Germany's naval capabilities and their ability to consider Operation Sea Lion.

They knew. But UK had massive hard-on for destroying competition. The only way Versailles can be avoided is if Germany never switches to unrestricted submarine warfare and thus american public still views germans favourably and demands US to oppose UK in peace talks. That would likely mean that Weimar Republic would be less of a republic and more of a constitutional monarchy and that it'll be a close ally and trade partner to United States. No rise of national socialism, but communism becomes a more pressing issue.

Can you please do a video on the whole Denmark surrendered in six hours thing? While it is kind of true, I would love to see you cover some of the stuff surrounding it. Just off the top of my head; 1 The fact that Denmark and Germany had signed a non-aggression pact not even one year before (31st of may 1939), after pressure from Franklin D. Roosevelt on Germany to ensure that Germany would not invade a number of small countries. 2 There was a belief in Denmark that Germany would not conquer Denmark, but only use it for the attack on Norway (this was the plan until 1st of April 1940, 8 days before the attack) or perhaps take Southern Jutland (which had returned to Denmark in 1920 after a referendum), so it was thought that there was little reason to waste lives in a war that was unwinnable. 3 Oh, and technically Denmark surrendered after 2 hours, but some units kept on fighting for an additional 4 hours, allegedly due to communication problems. A lot of speculation has been made on if this was regiments refusing to follow orders or if there were really problems with the materiel.

I really wonder where the six hours came from. The first German troops landed in Denmark at 3.55, the German demand for a surrender (technically the war declaration) came at 4.20, the Danish government ordered the troops to cease fire at 6.00 and formally capitulated at 8.34. Iirc Hitler (not German army but Hitler himself) wanted a war with Czechoslovakia, and was pissed that it was resolved peacefully. Also France and UK didn't do nothing in 1939. The alliance with France obligated Poland to hold on for (I think it was) a month so France could mobilize and conduct attack on the western border of Germany. This plan failed because Germans were at the outskirts of Warsaw just after a week. Despite not finished mobilization, France DID attack Germany, and was met with some resistance (they didn't reach proper Ziegfried Line yet). Germans had whole air fleet on the west and two land armies, to defend themself. UK also quickly swapped leaflets for bombs

This suggestion is a bit dark: What if the fighting nations used chemical and biological weapons in europe? Germany had huge stockpiles of Tabun/Sarin and Britain had Anthrax ready for use and was just waiting for an excuse to drop it on Germany (the use of Sarin would have provided the excuse). Italy had also shown to have chemical weapons in Ethiopia and I am pretty shure the Soviets had some too. Given how prevalent chemical weapons were in WW1 and other wars afterwards, their absence in europe during WW2 is rather surprising for me, so i would like to see a scenario were they were present outside of their ammo bunker.
