Stamping leather with meander pattern borders

The meander border stamps are one of my favorite border patterns to use. There are a lot of variations of these tools, but many are similar to use. In this video I demonstrate how I lay out and stamp a border with the D444 and D447 border stamps.

This is my kind of channel. I'm just getting into tooling leather. I have the serpentine stamp. I definitely need to get some more tools though for sure. Great video/ tutorial. 👍 I enjoyed it. :)

Very sweet ! Do you stamp the pattern before you fold the knife sheath, or after ?

I mostly stamp while the leather is still flat. It is possible to stamp after shaping, but it is much more difficult. You will get some distortion from the fold, but I feel it makes more of a mess stamping in the round.

I really like that. Ima have to get a stamp like that. Question, when you cut the impressed line, are you currently directly in the middle of it? Also, on your sheaths, i see the meander pattern, but what did you use to create the rough look in the open area of the center of the sheath?

Yes I cut right on the line. I don't think I mentioned it but you want to stop right before the cuts touch each other at the corners. You can make them look finished with the modeling tool later but you cannot do much with a cut that goes past the corner. The texture in the center of the knife sheath is a matting tool Tandy craftool #E294-03 and E294-04. I used the M881 and M882 matting tools the same way on my round knife sheath.

I don't remember, it was scraps. Probably about 8 ounce. I have used meander stamps on everything from 4 ounce to 15 ounce skirting leather.
