I am a 72 year old white woman. I think you are a treasure and I had stopped watching stand up. So many comedians think that they have to use every dirty word they can find. This is not the case with you and that makes you my favorite comedian. Thank you for making us laugh at ourselves. Life is hard enough nowadays in the world we live in and you have given us a light-hearted look at ourselves. I'm so happy that you're finding success at your trade.We need to laugh with all the people of all races. If only everyone would stop and learn from you. I don’t entirely understand what you’re insinuating here but I don’t like it. Is Josh short? What are you saying
@barbourgirl787 ай бұрын
@@rainbomg a lot more comedians are getting caught plagiarizing jokes of other comedians and trying to pass them off as their own (cue the Club Shay Shay interview with Katt Williams). Josh Johnson is average height, but not nearly 6 feet or anything. But, the comment had more to do with the integrity of more well-known comedians (Kevin Hart) jacking one of Josh's jokes or stories because he's a younger person. Dave Chappelle told a story about someone having done the same thing to him when he was a young comedian and punking him out, like, "And what are you going to do about it?" That's why the bigger acts are locking up people's phones when they arrive, so the shows can't be taped and shared on phones, too, since it's how these guys make their money to feed themselves and/or their families. Mark Curry goes into detail about it. There's a clip on YT about Steve Harvey using one of Curry's stories about his childhood.
@rainbomg7 ай бұрын
@@barbourgirl78 oh ok, I gotcha, I know robin williams was known for that. It’s kinda crazy that like, the bigger they get the less work they can do on the actual writing and workshopping and tweaking jokes. I haven’t watched that interview but I need to find like a highlight reel at some point. I watch _a ton_ of stand up and I think synchronicity or parallel thought must be a part of it (explains why comics say things that I too think/feel/sayl) because a big part of the success of a joke is how universal of a truth it is, or rather, how much/many people believe it to be true. I also think that’s a major player in why well established and recognizable acts might bite material too- bc they no longer live a life that provides them as much access to the plight of the every man (side not, I finally watched ray Romano’s special on Netflix from several years back and it was great. He’s good, I hadn’t heard his comedy before, this was all very specific to him and his life. I was pleasantly surprised) I love stand up comedy and I try to give everyone the benefit of the doubt (most people are not so cartoon malevolent that they would intend to rob others of their material, yet I do believe ppl could convince themselves that that’s not _exactly_ what they were doing, and explain it away like they were “taking inspiration”) but I think there’s got to be some of that happening, I know I’ve heard comics discussing being given jokes or selling jokes to them comic friends bc they didn’t have the right schtick for the humor. It can be subconscious, even as a painter I deliberately avoid looking at art in my particular genre bc I don’t want to accidentally or subconsciously become reductive in my own stuff. Anyways, all very interesting, I’ll look into what you mentioned and thanks for the literate and sincere reply
