One of the most spell binding art shows that I have ever filmed was the 2018 Disrupted Realism show at the Stanek Gallery. The curator was a Californian named John Seed.
John is back in Philadelphia for a redux exhibition at Stanek. He has also written a fantastic book "Disrupted Realism, Paintings for a Distracted World".

Saw this December, 2019 and bought the book on the 31st. Watched the video again tonight. Awesome work and probably the expected 'next new thing' in art history that will be very important. Love your videos!

Really powerul forms of art that depict lonliness, pain, suffering, breakthrough like freedom, sometimes peace and serenity but shows a few aspects of subtle mental illness and alot of movement, like real life where we are always on the go and never really fullfilled with what we do in life but when we do we end feeling empty again like in one of those paintings, i wish i could i have seen more of those in real life.

This should be named as kitsch realism movement

As I have stated, this is not a movement. Please look at the artists as individuals finding their own way.

Imagine the work this will lead to, and fast! And now l know just the thing l need to do to all my ancient “left off” masterpieces...

Cynthia, I hope you aren't really feeling that cynical about this type of work. The pieces I chose for the show are by artists who are 100% sincere about their paintings.

Not being cynical at all though it comes off that way. I mean that with all sincerity. I have many beautiful pieces that remain unfinished because they don’t “want” to be finished, however they more badly need to remain meaningful and this approach helps me see amazing resolutions for work that would love to be meaningfully admired. I struggle with getting points across in paintings and this is kind of mind blowing in its possibilities for making work speak without appearing overly “illustrated” but it’s also solidly in tune with these matrixy times. Frankly, l think the concept is brilliantly apropos.

I don't know if you are familiar with an artist call Austin Uzor, I feel like his work would be a great addition to the disrupted realism works.

Really interesting! Do some of these works have a photographic origin? Are any of these digital?
@JohnSeed

All the works are paintings, but yes some of the artists have been inspired by film and digital media. If you buy a copy of the book, you will see there is a section that talks about that.

Disrupted Realism...WHERE? I have seen this, these exact paintingsISH in every old outdated gallery in NY. But if you want to talk about DISRUPTED REALISM, ow wow wow wow I saw an artist a week ago that literally took my breath away with their interpretation of DISRUPTED REALISM. Admittedly I hate most art and have for years but the artist I saw doing DISRUPTED REALISM in such a unique method gave me a reason to love art again.

Great film, thank you. I'm pouring over the book as I write. As a painter, I'm very excited about this "movement" . . . . if that is what it is. I feel these paintings! Thank you John Seed.

Disrupted? Yes, by the awful music and the brief glimpse of the paintings. Viewing on a large screen so the book would not give me that detail but thank you for trying.
