Hi, lovelies ❤It took me some time to find staple products I can 💯% resonate with, hair care products that I can repeatedly buy again without the urge to move to a different product line or brand. Most products I use are on the medium to high end price scale, but they're also plant based. Throughout the years I didn't really have issues with shampoos, I mostly used sulfate free (regular/moisturising) shampoos that didn't strip my scalp and hair. But conditioners rarely brought me joy. I just saw it as the slippery way to remove the last bits of shed hairs, as the way to seal the hair/balance the ph and I was never satisfied with the formulations. They were either too heavy - leaving my hair greasy/oily/buttery or too drying - leaving my hair rough after the rinse. When it comes to styling and defining these tight curls, we definitely have more freedom here in Europe. This was definitely not the case 8-10 years ago without high shipping & customs. It’s still not great when you compare the prices in the US, but better than nothing.🙈

Thank you for your video. Just found your channel and it has been so encouraging to see a focus on formulations and technique rather than products. I do agree with what you say: 4c hair doesn’t need as much oils and butters as they think. It definitely makes my hair brittle and dry.

This was a very informative video, although I have a very long way to go with unlearning old practices of caring for my hair. It’s quite difficult finding these or similar products in South Africa without completely destroying my budget by getting them online. But I hope through some trial and error and a bit more knowledge I’ll find what works for me.

I can totally understand. ♥️Giovanni could be a more affordable alternative compared to what I’m using now. Not all their products are silicone free, so better always read ingredient list first before buying, but here’s what I’ve used in the past & equally enjoyed: Giovanni 2Chic Ultra Sleek Brazilian Keratin & Argan Oil Shampoo (Moisturising Shampoo), Giovanni 2Chic Ultra Sleek Brazilian Keratin & Argan Oil Shampoo (Moisturising Conditioner), Giovanni - 50: 50 Balanced Hydrating-Clarifying Shampoo (labels says it’s gentle enough for daily use), Giovanni - 50: 50 Balanced Hydrating-Calming Conditioner (Moisturising Conditioner), Giovanni LA Hold Styling Gel (not entirely botanical, but gives beautiful hold, definition & foams up on clean, soaking wet product free hair). I unfortunately couldn’t find second stylers that will give you a more firm hold in the same price/ingredient category, but you could do some trial/error to see if you can find what makes your hair and the look you want happy. If you care about what you’re using inside your hair, try to look out for curly girl method approved ingredients. It will help to decide if you want to use certain formulations regularly or just from time to time. A good way to start a new hair care journey is to start a clarifying/detox step before using new products/ingredients. So that your strands are free from old stuff, using clay masks could be an alternative to commercial clarifying solutions, but takes time and consistency. I hope this helps a bit and I hope the future will bring more affordable brands, that are easily available. 😩

I typically do leave-in conditioner and cream wash and gos and I can get 7 to 14 days. A few times I will use a leave-in conditioner and mousse which lasts just as long. My hair has fine to medium strands, is low to medium density and silky surface texture. If you use the curl chart my hair would be categorized 4A/3C.

Thanks for sharing your styling routine! 🥰 We tight cottony ladies with 4b/c hair usually don’t have this level of maximum curl definition silky heads experience with cream based products unfortunately.

Thank you so much! You were there from the beginning and I appreciate you loving your hair more! 💗 Yep, for me it’s working totally, because these tiniest curls aren’t completely brushed out like we would pick and brush an afro into place. When I condition I only use my fingers to work it in and don’t need to worry about massive shed hairs.

OG KZbinr indeed! 😍 She’s back with new videos and her routine is still the same as back in the day which I find amazing btw! 🥰 She was doing her own version of the CGM. The max hydration method regimen was also inspired by her including DanaBNatural. She loves using Terressentials and doesn’t mix her own clay masks. For my hair, I just don’t believe in acv rinses solely and don’t advise on adding baking soda to hair to cleanse & clarify since the pH can be very harsh when you don’t test it, which can result in possible damage. Baking soda can also lead to hygral fatigue when used frequently. That’s why I additionally simply use surfactant based or alternative cleansers.

@@RabielleParfait Yes, I remember those Max hydration days on YT. Have you heard of dubaidee4c( I think that is her correct name)? She would do type 4 wash and go makeovers using her version of the method on people.

Sorry, I think I overlooked this. Yes, I've heard of her and will also do a video about this part of the MHM soon. I love her before and after pictures! For me, her regimen was even more close to BGC method of skipping leave-in conditioner if one compares it. I unfortunately don't know what happened to her. At one point she started calling her routine the ✨Detox Diet 4 Curls/Coils✨ where she introduced shampoos, especially clarifying shampoos.

Girrrrrl you have grown so much! your channel, your hair knowledge, your hair length so very amazed and happy for you! I am still here, silently applauding you put here; and am glad I found you (excuse me OUR hair type - super fine, tightly wound spring coils - in your story) ... Watching your videos is like confirmation for me. Like, reading the cliff notes to a hair journey novel and saying softly in my inside voice: "ah ha! I knew it.. mmmm hmm see there, I was right! yup, me too" keep up the fantastic work, Sis

Thank you so much love! ♥️ This feels good. Because I’m not forcing anyone to do something here. I’m showing ways to keep a consistent curly 4c hair lifestyle and to motivate others if they wish. Not everyone wants to always wear braids, twists, keep hair stretched or blown out. Many want to explore the possibilities of their own clumped & curly hair strands without finger coils. 😫And then you have long hair gurus like Naturally Nica insulting us we’re bullies, texturists and holders of colonist believes. Without her realising this cotton candy clouds she loves was demonised as animal, sheep hair. Not human and not curly. I don’t really understand her issue with me, but check out her video. It’s awful how she took screenshots out of the context from Tiktok to promote her conditioner in the making.

Thanks for representing us. Very informative video. Could you please explain your tip with the clay mask to get definition ? Because my curls pop with the conditioner, but after rinsing it out, my hair goes back to a cloudy cottony texture. And i feel like I have to put a lot of effort and styling products to get definition. So any tip on keeping them curls that i see with the conditioner before rinsing it out would be highly appreciated.

Here are tips I’ve tried out: 1.) You can try to spend more time smoothing your hair with a tiny bit more conditioner and water to see if you can get the clumping back with your fingers in a smoothing motion in small sections. But takes forever and would take away the joy because you haven’t used any styling products to repeat the process again. Or after the rinse, you try to use tiny amount of conditioner again, maybe watered down in a bottle to see if you get that curl formation again. You could also switch to light conditioners that don’t contain too many heavy oils/butters. 2.) If this doesn’t help, I think detangling before shampoo is the best option. To speed up the process you could also do this step in the shower. Soak your hair really wet, use a Pre-Shampoo/slippery product to detangle your hair or a cheap but good slippery conditioner without harmful ingredients. Then you shampoo as usual, smooth your fav conditioner in and your coils won’t be disturbed after the rinse. Conditioners main purpose is to seal & lubricate your hair and bring your hair back into a balanced ph, if the shampoo’s ph is too high. So it wasn’t created in the first place to detangle curly hair as we do today. That’s why you find old slogans not to detangle wet (straight) hair because it’s more fragile in this state. So it’s not a bad thing if your coils stay brushed out and you just switch the steps. 3.) When my hair is throughly detangled & brushed out with conditioner, that’s the only time my curls don’t jump back after rinsing out. It has something to do with conditioner formulations, but also the shape of our curls because it has a tight helix shape. But If my hair pops with conditioners and clumps into tiny ringlets & waves, rinsing with water doesn’t disturb the curls at all. My hair doesn’t jump back into clouds because water is just rinsing the conditioner out, so maybe you need to explain more how and what your curls look like and do. Mine are left alone and just shrink in a clumped way, if I don’t put anything in. Please check out my IG & TT videos for evidence. I’ve dedicated a whole section of the video about the use of clays and how it can gently remove the excess of too heavy cream based conditioners in my hair without having to shampoo my hair again. My hair clumps with shampoo and stays coily after the rinse. Completely detangling & Brushing out the coils with detangling brushes and heavy cream based conditioners is what I find challenging, so I hope I got your question right.

@@RabielleParfait thank you so much for your detailed answer. I may try option 2 to see if it works. To explain what my curls do: I use Giovanni smooth as silk shampoo and conditioner. After detangling and brushing out the conditioner in my hair, i see a combination of tiny ringlet curls and some waves. As soon as I pour out water on my hair and rinse the conditioner out, the curls and waves disappear immediatly. Sometimes my hair becomes stiff if I rinse out the conditioner completely. The stiffness comes from the very hard water we have here in Switzerland. Then, i wet each section in the shower and apply the leave-in conditionner, still there is no curls. Only when I apply the foam (outside of the shower), then I would get back clumped curls. I hope this helps to understand

@@patia58 Ok now I get what you mean. Hard water is a pain. ♥️ Have you tried clarifying your hair more often with a clarifying shampoo that contains chelating ingredients? Kinky Curly Come Clean, Olaplex No. 4c & for ex Malibu C shampoos clarify hair from lime buildup. Innersense Detox Hair Mask also removes strong lime buildup, haven’t bought it yet, but heard only positive. For a very basic & simple diy here’s what I do: In a non metal bowl I mix Aztec Secret Indian Healing Bentonite clay with organic apple cider vinegar and a non metal spoon until it gets a smooth thick yogurt consistency. Rinse your hair through, use a regular shampoo & lather twice. The Giovanni 50: 50 could be something for you. Now apply the hair mask & smooth it down your entire strands. Let it sit 10-15 minutes, don’t let it dry out or cover your hair. Rinse throughly & condition your hair. If you’ve already detangled your hair before shampoo, you only need to smooth conditioner in with your hands. You could do this this once a week to only as needed once a month or even less. I do this step after conditioner but also for other reasons I mentioned in the video. You could also do this step before shampoo on rinsed hair, but to me the process is more effective when my hair isn’t coated with anything. ♥️ Maybe your hair also doesn’t need a leave-in conditioner and is fine with mousse only & a botanical gel.

@@RabielleParfait you are so lovely, thank you for answering and taking your time to explain. I will try as you suggested. Yes my hair is fine with just a styling foam however i must reset every 3-4 days. I am trying to use up my leave-in and I will Switch to a base botanical gel once it is finished. I wish you a nice sunday and a good start into the new week ahead
