I was taught to always lube those up any rubber gaskets you're using so they don't get hard and brittle plus it helps them stay in if you're having a problem keeping them in place.

Best bit was my comedic lack of tools (only a factory jack, eBay ring spanner set etc) and the ropey shenanigans I got up to to navigate the problems. Feeling when I got it back together and working was amazing as I'm a knob who usually fucks things up 🤣

If it's cold, it doesn't mean you have to work in miserable conditions. If outside put a big tarp over using spring clamps or weights to hold it in place. Then use an electric heater or propane to keep it a balmy 50-60 under there. If in a garage many have an open ceiling. Ideally throw some plastic up and then drywall then insulation on ceiling to actually retain some heat then a heater of some kind. Just keeping the heat from going up makes a huge difference.
