Race cars end up in museums and the buildings they came from are often forgotten. I’m glad we are able to digitally document these places for future generations to see. I also feel like there is something special about hearing stories where they happened. What do you think? Stapletonautoworks.com

Well the buildings are an essential part of the story, since obviously without a shop, it becomes much more difficult to do everything to get the cars together in order to get those cars to the track.

I worked for Brayton Engineering in Coldwater, Michigan back in the early 90s. We built the Buick Indy V6 engines for King Motorsports. They won the Pole and Indianapolis Motor Speedway track record for the 1992 Indy 500. Kenny did everything right with his Indy Car program as well. Larry talks about the cars that GM provided to the Race teams and for us it was a pair of loaded Buick Roadmaster wagons (with wood grain as well). These days, I am a Plastic Injection Mold designer in West Michigan but I sure enjoyed my time working for Scott and Lee Brayton. And working for team owners like Kenny Bernstein, John Menard and others. Those were some great times.

@@Fatboyeethat Pole winning 4 lap track record in 1992 was 232.482 mph. The 4 lap time came in at 2:34.851. Yes much to our dismay Roberto wasn't able to control the 900 plus horsepower we gave him and the 55 inches of boost allowed for the Buick. In Guerrero's defense, after a sweltering month of May, the temps that day were well below normal and the traction was poor. Other cars had the same issue until the tires and the track warmed up a bit.

I absolutely love listening to Larry Mac reminisce. He has such a great way of relating stories with a great amount of detail, while not sounding as if he’s off in the weeds or making it too complicated to follow. Not at all an easy thing to do. We got to meet & shake hands with him at a (then) Busch race at MMP. He struck me as a really genuine guy, and pretty much is as he seems here & in the broadcast booth/studio/etc. Larry Mac is truly one of the good’uns. 👍🏼

Good job with the interview. I learned a lot about Larry Mac that I never knew. Love learning about these old shops and the history of the people that worked there.

I have this Quaquer State Nascar Buick model from Monogram. My Dad gave it to me to assemble and have fun on it. Thanks Dad!

It was nice to hear the name Ricky Rudd and Lou Larossa. I followed every race that Rudd drove for the Bernstein team. Larry Mac was the real deal back then and now.
