Star Citizen is a First Person MMO Space Sim that covers gameplay in ship & on ground, economy and pretty much anything else you would want. It's First Person and built in the StarEngine (a modified Lumberyard Engine). You'll see massive Space Ships that you can fly with friends, land on planets, explore or whatever your way to whatever goal you choose.
Squadron 42 is the Single Player Campaign and the Spiritual Successor of Wing Commander. The Idea is the game is maximum pretty and seamless... NO LOADING SCREENS. It's currently in the Alpha of it's open development with the hope that SQ42 will be released Q4 2017 - Q2 2018.
Full Disclosure: I am a Star Citizen Fan BUT am not paid or contracted by CIG in anyway other than I am an Evocati Member and as such am under an NDA during closed tests.

Simply: Incredible! What Star Wars did for the film industry... Star Citizen will do for the gaming industry. Work of genius! gentlemen. Work of genius!
@----.__
@----.__ 6 жыл бұрын
This is the third time Chris Roberts has turned the gaming industry upsidedown. A lot of people say what he wants to do is impossible, and most people couldn't pull it off, but somehow CR manages to get extremely close to his end goal which is leagues beyond what anyone else envisaged. As the saying goes; aim for the moon for if you miss you'll still end up amongst the stars.

I absolutely agree. That's why I make a comparison to George Lucas and how he met resistance, rejection, skepticism and even ridicule when he first wanted to bring his vision to the screen. Star Wars was so far out of the box and so ahead of it's time, that even people that worked in the initial production of Episode IV, doubted that the film would amount to anything; yet it ended up changing the way movies are made and also the way the public would look at films forever. I am completely convinced that we are in the presence of yet another revolutionary work of great vision with the development of Star Citizen, and it will also change an entire industry by raising the bar with a gigantic leap of innovation and creativity. In short: Our world became a better, wondrous and more appealing place to live in with the completion of Star Wars; so will it be with the completion of Star Citizen.

They'll never all stop complaining unfortunately, most are pretty ignorant and have a pretty sad and negative outlook (probably at everything in their life). The stuff CIG is doing is groundbreaking technology-wise, honestly it's amazing to think how the whole gaming industry is going to be affected single-handedly by SC's developments

1 simple rule in the business environment. When a company loses a customer, it is extremely difficult to regain that customers respect and potential loyalty. This is why it is very important for companies to not lose the customer in the first place. CIG made a tough choice... Quick updates and lower quality updates (For customers who wanted this), or less updates and better quality updates (This is what they chose)... I do think Star Citizen might be an exception for this rule though, as it is proving to be an extremely good game (:

+Keith Marshall So you would want an incomplete game being called complete? They would get sued... I mean look at No Man's Sky, they were sued (They won the case) because backers didn't think the game was what they were told it would be... Star Citizen has said this game will have all of those star systems, a certain amount of ships, so on... They need to complete all of that before they release the game.

Simen Haust Don't get ahead of ourselves with this hundreds of different zones. I don't imagine we'll have hundreds of different planets (at this detail) let alone hundreds of different zones on ONE planet. But we don't need that many planets or zones if they get the balance between artfully crafted and procedurally generated perfect. It's good to be hyped but don't lose perspective as that will only invite disappointment.
@zamu77
@zamu77 6 жыл бұрын
SlightlyDecent No, on one planet? 2-3 tops. But 100 systems with 1-2 planets that are not scorching hot, too smoggy or gas planets in each sounds reasonable, times 1-2 landingzones on average, plus space stations, truck stops, planetoids and huge asteroids like Levski should give us something to land on. And don’t even get me started on moons ... Even the planets we can’t land on have moons, so there might be a few hundred of them too. Of course this is still far in the future, we’re not talking 4.0 or beta, maybe not even at launch, but I have faith that it will be there one day ;)

Well they have stated around 150 systems in the verse.... but then you have to take into account we won't know all the Van'duul planets or all of the others either. Also when you discover an unknown system you were supposed to be able to claim that and name it or something along those lines, like "this is going to be called planet Bob" ;) so it would be weird if we knew ALL the systems and planets already, apart from asteroids and wrecks there would be no reason for things like the Aquila...

But expand that to this scale of ambition, I am salivating. meeting ground level thugs, walking in backstreet alleys, finding your self knocked out and end up being in some slime covered arena fighting for your life. Or accidently crash landing on planet that is undergoing a monster pandemic, foolishly unrealising that you have spread such contaminations, your actions are being broadcasted to the other players via in game news. This is the dream my friend!

Won't be close to being the best game ever created. I don't even see it as a game really. More along the lines of a simulator in a different reality. I already saw the "campaign" is delayed. I can also assure you that any multiplayer aspect will not come close to top tier competitive games nor will it hold a playerbase as well as something like WoW on a more casual side. I haven't seen any mind blowing PVE or PVP in this game and creating decent PVE/PVP aspects for ANY game is EXTREMELY uncommon even when the dev groups focus all of their efforts around those aspects which Star Citizen has almost zero of as of now. There is absolutely zero way this game will have a story rivaling even the games already made that stand on the podium. KOTOR storylines? The Witcher? Halo? Forget about matching those stories. What about lore? Not going to even come close to touching the established lore of worlds such as Warcraft, Star Wars, or others. Shooting mechanics aren't going to match hardly any FPS game that takes itself seriously. Movement won't match hardly any AAA title of smaller scales from what I have seen. Higher tier graphics will 100% be drastically harder to run than any game out there right now so forget about seeing beautiful landscapes to your average player. End game content is literally non-existent other than the “World” of SC being so large it somehow thinks it will fill the void with that. All of this will compound upon each other over time and people will start to realize the only thing to it is just how large it is and how pretty it is while not having anything special other than that.

ok the game is still early alpha quickly approaching 200 million dollars, and almost 2 million backers.... let that sink in.... theres ALOT of people that are standing by waiting for the game to be made, and alot of haters will come back around once its released. when the game is finished expect to see a huge flow of players rushing in to play the game. also as for the story... thats just insulting, Zero chance? come on they have some seriosly high profile celebrities involved in the campaign, they have a huuge huge script now we have only seen snippits of acting here and there, mostly during the behind the scenes work and they are all quite assuring that this is gonna be a very high quality story driven campaign... just wait and see, they going to do a christmas stream with squadron 42....

At this point it doesn't really matter if the game ever gets to release or not. Because this turned into something more than a simple space-flight game - it's a dream. A space-sim game that all who are into space genre dreamed of seeing at least once - the one where you really can go whenever you want, walk inside your ship, walk outside the ship, freely walk about various space stations... The game where you could land on any planet you see, reach any star that catches your eye, walk through the city that is usually locked behind a dialog tree and a simple animation... Before it only existed as text quests, lore, CGI movies and our imagination. But now - it's real. You can see it. You can even play it. That one game from your dreams. We got to see it. And it's magnificent.

Sadly they do what they always do: Rename and join the game and saying: I was fan from day one! :) Sadly you cannot catch them and nail them down in never being able to play games they hated. I mean: Instead of leaving it and let them try, they additionally need to cause damage. Simply leave them alone, wait and see. It will nevertheless not be about all that stuff. It will ultimately be about the gameplay experience. So, this is a thing we still cannot fully evaluate at all. Perhpas the whole game will play clunky or most people see, that this game wont be their taste gameplay wise. I see, that most hype kids nevertheless end up playing games other than space sims. The will go back and play cs:go or battlefield, as the isnt even close to what they would like. I see that thing, as every space game, being somtlething, where most people say, it is too big and too less action for them. So, that will be the only thing, that people can wait for and then rip it apart. Rest is only bullshit and purposely damaging...nothing else. I mean: Most millenials seem to have IQ less then apes. I luckily havent yet got a child, because I would be cryIng to let my child live among such idiotic societies. ;)

Ripped from Wikipedia: video game publishers are responsible for their product's manufacturing and marketing, including market research and all aspects of advertising. Woulden't that make Intel a publisher for SC? they did market research, advertising, and manufacture of slips with printed game package codes, and ship codes? Sounds like a publisher to me.
@BizzMRK
@BizzMRK 6 жыл бұрын
That has nothing to do with publishing. This is just an simple colaboration done between CIG and Intel nothing more. Other than that CIG obviously is making the ship and providing the gamecodes and Intel is paying for that. This is exactly the same kind of deal they did with AMD a while back with the Omega skin. This by no means is publishing the game in any way. CIG is (obviously developing the game themself, they are financing the game themself via crowdfunding without any dependances or obligations to investors or publishers, advertising/promoting the game themself, they are distributing/selling the game themself, they organize the promotional events themself, they maintain the website and media channels themself, they are managing the designing and production of the merchandise themself.

When I was a child, I would sit upon my Grandfathers knee and watch, every Christmas, Star Wars on TV. I would stare in wonder and awe at the TV as a whole new world unfolded before me. While I was too young to understand the full extent of the story, I knew it was a story about heroes, villains and people who just get stuck in the middle and are forced to chose a side. It was the visuals of this film that really got to me. The realisation that there was much more that could be out there. And while the visuals were quite limited by todays standards, they still entranced me and firmly rooted in me my love of sci-fi that would come to help define me as an adult later on in life. As I grew older, I found computer games, first the Atari 2600 and then, later, The NES. And while games like Crystal Caves, Mario and Zelda were amongst my favourites, the ones based in Science Fiction were always top of my list. While once again limited, They gave me a chance, a fleeting one, to know what it might be like to fly through the stars, protecting people from the bad guys. I would imagine that I was flying those little ships, I would dream of travelling to the stars and exploring, meeting new people and exploring strange new worlds. Star Trek the Original Series was one of my all time faves, but Battlestar Galactica was just the best and I watched that every time it was on. Slowly, computers and technology progressed and I progressed from consoles to PC. I was blown away. The simple, raw power of the PC showed me games like Wing Commander, X-Wing, TIE Fighter, Privateer and eventually Freelancer. These games left me in awe. While again limited, they were what I always wanted. A game where I could carve my own path, for the most part, in a living universe. Then came Frontier Elite 2. I never got into the original Elite, but Elite 2...I lost my life to that game. Hundreds of hours I dedicated to that game, just flying around, trading, fighting, doing what I wanted and seeing what I could see. It was a massive world that I could explore in my own time and I could tell my own story. And then, for the longest time, nothing. Its as if the space sim had died. Gone but not forgotten, there were the occasional games released, but nothing on a scale or scope that I wanted. Now, now we have 2 giants in the playfield. Say what you will about ED, but its still an impressive game. So much to do and explore and Elite will always have a place in my heart and I still play Elite Dangerous. But Star Citizen, I backed this as soon as I heard about it. I trust Chris Roberts and his team. Just look at what they have done. Just look at how they have progressed since the Hanger Module. They are building technology that will be used by developers for years to come all while building a game that people from my generation have dreamed of for decades. Things like this bring tears to the eyes of 40something gamers, because its what we have wanted since we were children. To be the heroes in the sci-fi movies, or to just live inside of those worlds. I cried during this presentation, because our dream game is slowly becoming a reality. And while yes, it might still falter and fail, it looks less and less likely every passing month. Soon, we will be able to live in a lovingly crafted Science Fiction/Cyberpunk world...and I cannot wait. "When I was a child, I spoke like a child, thought like a child, reasoned like a child; when I became a man, I put away childish things." - Corinthians 13:11 TLDR: I cried with joy and remembered why I love Sci-Fi and Space Sims while watching this.

They’re moving to a strict quarterly release-based schedule, as opposed to a content-based schedule. So 3.1 will be 3 months after 3.0, and then 3.2 3 months after that. Everything ready at that point will go in, and everything not ready will be pushed to the next release. No more delaying patches for content :D

Okay, prior to Citizencon I thought, they clouldn't impress me very much until 3.0 drops. But man, I was wrong... The technical side of the planetary tech is just astonishing... After that I really think they will deliver everything I want from this game. They "just" need to figure out a good way, to fill all that with life and entertainment. Be it with missions or cool lifelike NPC stuff and so on. That will be an other big task, but the dedication and skill of these folks give me hope. :) Wow... just wow.

Well I'm thinking about it in this way, I have a Hull-A, or I will when they make it :), and I also think they need to stop calling things Missions, should be called Missions in SQ42 but everything else should be called Jobs, that would give a better impression of what this game is all about, so, how many times do you do the same journey for work??? lots of your journeys are going to be similar but I don't think it will feel like a grind because of the insanity that is this game..... but if you want different journeys then simple, just take a delivery to somewhere else and job sorted :)
@zobblewobble1770
@zobblewobble1770 6 жыл бұрын
I think the long travel time will be ok _IF_ it is implemented correctly. Like you say, social interactions can eat up the time, but what about people who are just flying solo around the verse? I've heard that they'll have you go about your ship and maintain it while in flight so that should hopefully help the singleplayers out. Personally I would like to see an in game gaming device (Game-ception, *Bwaaaaa intensifies*) that just allows you to play a simple minigame or two during that time that absolutely nothing is happening. It might sound silly, but Splatoon did something similar where they had a little jumping mini-game that people could play while waiting in the player lobby. It was a slightly different situation but still was an answer to the same "What should players be doing when there is nothing to do" problem that made the experience much more enjoyable.
@pegasusted2504
@pegasusted2504 6 жыл бұрын
There is only one problem with that idea mate. What happens if your flying along and a pirate(npc or otherwise) decides that your little ship looks tasty and your concentrating on a "mini-game"??? well, you better get used to seeing the inside of medical centres lol. Trust me when you are travelling from place to place, the tension of expected attack and feeling of relief when you make it to your destination will be tangible, I think you will feel it, plus you could always check on your cargo or crew and have chats with them or perform repairs/checks. You are still thinking like elite or any other game i can think of where you are stuck in the seat you are sat in, you can get up in this. I mean think about if you are flying a hull-d or e or Caterpillar or idris, it will take a few minutes just to walk about them more for the bigger ships so....
@zobblewobble1770
@zobblewobble1770 6 жыл бұрын
Well you are right that the larger ships will have stuff to do, I'm just thinking about the smaller ships where you almost _are_ stuck in the seat for the whole flight like the Aurora. Also, I assume that you have to be brought out of Quantum Jump in order to be attacked (either by arriving at the point you jumped to or being interdicted), at which point the minigame can be paused either manually or potentially automatically. Again, the large ships have the maintenance acting as a "minigame" so this isn't really an issue for them.

There were no promises made here, only idiot backers that have no idea what "work in progress tech demo" means and stupidly thinks it means promise. They have tons of disclaimers when you boughtthe game, try actually reading them. They moved these buildings to Hurston and gave us new buildings to further differentiate the two. Planets didn't even rotate at this time. They couldn't even get this into the live game without object container streaming. It still looks amazing and keeps getting improved.

I have 2k hours in the game. I'm well aware of who they are. I'm also well aware no one but them has any idea what is under development for the game right now. Game features, especially the ones you see in the video above, are started years in advance. But these features are almost never revealed until they are almost finished. Especially since the No Mans Sky fiasco. Chris Roberts has serious balls to announce stuff like this with the current gaming generation. An example: During 2.2 there was a bug with the damaged model of the anaconda. You could see inside. People that noticed got to see what the interior of the Anaconda. Something that has no reason to exist if walking around weren't being developed. Keep in mind 2 things. ED and SC are not competitors. They are both relatively cheap games. Most people already have both. Even if they were, SC is in EA and has almost nothing actually playable by consumers. Eventually SC will surpass ED in feature-addition-speed though. This isn't due to laziness. Its simply due to CIG having 100s of millions in funding and no reason to launch until the game is what they want. (Launches slow down development significantly) Frontier however is a business. They cant afford to wing it. But any true gamer. Will play both. SC and ED will be nothing alike. When both games are finished the only similarities they will share will be heavy generalizations. Gameplay loops will differ, setting, mood, flight model, gun model, planetary surfaces, multiplayer features, will all differ. Many players will prefer one over the other. People don't enjoy the same things. As it stands the games look to be pleasing two different audiences. Non picky people will play both. But to say there is competition between them is just stupid. There are competition between phones, vaccum cleaners, computer hardware. But video games, they aren't tools. They cant be objectively measured. They don't have competition, they just have target audiences.

Why does this version of the game look better than the current version I'm playing!? This video was made 2 years ago? Arc and Hurston look nothing like this video!? I'm frustrated I can't fly thru the city without the autopilot engaging and ruining my game. I hope they give us this version and not what we currently have. :.(

It's most likely due to performance. ArCorp will definitely get another rework in the future

@@d3v-x64 SC has come a long way this year. I anxiously wait to see the day you speak of. Don't get me wrong I love the game and I play all the time. It does frustrate me from time to time tho.

Unless they will update it to this level of fidelity this was all smoke and mirrors to get more funding. I dont think SC is a money scam but they are lying about product quality.

Blown away.. More than a decade has passed since the golden days of SWG (Star Wars Galaxies) and I long for an immersive space sandbox where I can carve out a little piece and tailor it to what I want to do.. I cannot wait for what else the team can accomplish in the coming years!
