Today we look into death or a spaceman, atmospheric flight, the damage system, engineering, and more "hardcore" aspects of Star Citizen that are less known about. These features could make or break the game for players, and this video will hopefully shed more light on these features.

The way that they track along until you are fully dead in universe is with a viability score that your imprint is given, once an imprint is deemed unviable they do not try and resurrect the person again because it would only lead to suffering if it worked at all. I think that having a percentage score rather than an estimated number of deaths would be more lore accurate and easier to scale

2:02:50 im a little worried that they havnt clarified this, because i think its such an easy W they could take. Even have the little ship voice say something like ''onboard computer: damaged, audio simulation: offline'' and then having this ''realistic mode'' would be so cool

Tbh this system seems very well thought out, they have the lore explaination with cloning that includes loss of limbs. They have a skill system that i think doesnt make the game feel like an RPG while giving a unique feel to the character ''my dude knows how to hack, my dude knows how to do take downs'' and you get an incentive to stay alive, that also helps lessen the permanence of reputation at the same time in a velibable way. Honestly impressed with Chris's ability to IMAGINE And the idea of being able to recover lives but it being difficult and or expensive feels like such a good reason to grind for me. Like now its not just grinding for ships, or stuff for your base or org, youre trying to get back to the healthiest version of your character, youre a miner trying to pay off the fucked up leg he got in that accident. Not to speak of the fact that this would make medivac/med beacons actually usefull, its already kinda cool to see someone come to your rescue, now imagine if that also meant something. Imagine going to save the leader of a big org whos actually a big deal and really cares about his character. Its surprising how a 10 year old document holds up to today, its probably one of the few features that hasnt had alot of changes since its original idea

This video is great, one of your best. Maybe it's just how excited you are, but the whole sequence of going down the list with the interaction from Jake was too much fun. Loved it. Was worried you might burn out Tomato, glad you're going strong, you're amongst the best SC content creators there are, hope you stick with this for the long haul.

Preventative Maintenance Checks and Services (PMCS) your ship regularly, if you take damage, check up on your systems, replace your air filters (that will be a thing) regularly. Ensure your fuses are not taking too much load, so distribute power evenly through the ship when possible. If you overclock your systems in a pinch, don't leave it overclocked for longer than it needs to be, or you could take unnecessary damage or wear.

Looking forward with great anticipation to atmospheric, aerodynamic flight - but also with a hope that it will be well done and not too many years into the future. I backed CIG for Squadron 42 and to be able to pursue within Star Citizen the same profession followed in real life: piloting fixed wing aircraft. Neither S42 nor aerodynamic flight have appeared yet, however. The Star Citizen 'airliner', the Crusader Starliner, has also yet to appear.

I will say, if they make this a thing, I would prefer they kill my character off, but don't touch any of my customised appearance. I have customised them that way for a reason, leave it alone. Same with prosthetics, or at least give me a way to get an organic replacement. @14:00 The problem with systems like these is that being marked for death would not stop people who actually want to kill players. Many MMOs have tried different systems and they never work. In EVE, you die in literal seconds if you attack players in high sec. Doesn't stop gankers there, because killing a player before the security gets them is a *challenge*, not a *deterrent*. With this system, people will be looking at the wanted stats as an achievement, not a negative. I really do want to see an update on this sort of posts because it seems like CIG is still that naive about how and why people grief in MMOs.

Agree with you on this point: there should be a way to regain a pure, organic body untainted by machine in Star Citizen. Today's culture is 'educating' people into an acceptance of the chipping and modding of the human form; seeing this emulated and even enforced in a game is distasteful.
@reginadea2821
@reginadea2821 4 ай бұрын
Sure, but I'm not even talking about that. I play SC to play a space game, not a cyberpunk game. I just can't do prosthetics. I don't think they are a fashion statement, just like I don't think having a scar or an eyepatch is cool. I want to customise my own character, not have devs customise them for me. Don't change how my character looks. That's up for me to decide.

Out of all these hardcore things I think the one I'm most excited for is the new interaction system both for the EVAs and just a game in general I feel like at that point it's when the game starts feeling a lot more like a game rather than a tech demo

I like the idea of a slave story arc. Imagine being on board a slave carrier with a collar, and being sent to do missions. Or being put into gladiatorial arena's and have to FPS fight in contests. I could see an org level mission to assault and take down a slave carrier, and free the slaves. Or to break in and just free your buddy in stealth. Such could have a storyline for each, and then switch to procedural and randomized missions for said slave controller.

If they let us have alternate accounts, then I will always have a lawful good medic on standby to come rescue my main. They could make a game loop based on rescue of your main where you take over a NPC standby just for the purpose of your own players rescue. You would even pay for a better standby NPC. People hate having to rely on others, others always let you down eventually. Call it an AI clone of yourself that makes decisions just like you would. You can update this AI so when you die, you take it over for the rescue path in game. Any game that drags out the ability to get back into some kind of action, even if reduced because of gear loss, makes people like me want to just go play another game. If i'm playing megaman, or Mario, or starfox, and when I die I must wait for another person to come revive me, I'm going to another game with less reliance on others just to get back up. There is a good reason why this kind of gameplay kills the flow of a game. Because it makes you waist your time when you could be doing something slightly rewarding instead of wasting minutes of your life.

I think death of a spaceman is crucial for the experience - ATM going to space with barely any equip (just undergear and a helmet) and do space combat is the LESS dangerous path of life because, well, you lose gear and cargo if you die, but not the ship and your life means nothing.

I really hope, Atmospheric Flight will be just as you explained. We need hovering to only be possible horizontally to the ground in order for ground troops to not be shot down by hovering omnipotent beasts as well as to not break immersion so hard. Thrusters are currently way too overpowered, atmo flight is unrealistic and there seems to be no difference between space and atmo. We need something more like DCS, of course not that hardcore that you have to learn countless pdfs just to get your ship to turn on, but the flight model should be comparable at least.

You mentioned several times the skills they are adding to the SC and RPG skills of other games... I certainly wouldn't equate the skills that CIG mentioned a few years ago and are now adding to the game with the standard RPG skills. These are more like character attributes based on the most commonly played gameplay... And they don't lock or open up any part of the game for you, they just deepen the ones you play the most... So these SC "soft" skills are going to be very different than standard RPG skills, and there's no need to mix them together because it creates confusion... :)

@@SpaceTomatoToo I've always thought that the skills as CIG wants them from the first moment they announced them make complete sense in the game, and it doesn't clash with the skill based approach Star Citizen wants to keep. After all, it never made sense to me that, for example, a player who only uses ships for trading would have the same tolerance for G forces as a player who regularly exposes himself to high Gs in a fighter...

They won't do permadeath that would kill the game entirely. The major problem with all these systems they want to put in place is that it will force players to play the game how they HAVE to play it and not how they WANT to play it, in a giant free range do anything you want kind of game like this these systems will push people away from risk if they get connected to their characters even if it's not "permadeath" the amount of prep it takes before you go out to do anything already is a major turn off to alot of people especially to those who can't spend 12 hours a day playing Now add the fact that you could get captured, die and have to restart your rep and all that shit. I could see player count hit the ground

Well, it's like playing any from software games, you struggle and stay alive during an hour farming echoes/souls but unfortunately you die......then you have chances to take your stuff back by defeating what kills you but unlucky you die before reaching it and your hour of farming is permanently lost. It doesn't stop you for doing it again but when you bought the game you knew or not what you putting yourself in. Lots of games are more hard than what CIG want to implement.

They will do permadeath, and all of this has been reiterated numerous times across the span of the games development. This is why there are systems of various sizes with varying levels of lawlessness and infrastructure, so a player can decide how much risk they want to undertake and how much planning they want to have to do. No sense in being hyperbolic about it.

Star Citizens first "hardcore" mechanic was introduced with loss of cargo on ship destruction/30k, followed by loss of gear on death. The latter has not been in the game when i started about 2-3 years ago, the former in its intended form i dont know about its introduction tbh. Apart from that, this game is not yet hardcore at all, its just sim-levels of difficulty when it works properly, im regards to ttk and travel. Neither the difficulty of gameplay loops nor the inventory nor the food/drink mechanics make it "hardcore" by itself. They are pretty arcady. And yes, CIG has done a terrible job at conveying their vision of how "hardcore" the game is supposed to be in the future, you have to siff through very ancient articles or 3. party recources to find out about it, their marketing is horrible in that regard. So no, the game has not been "hardcore" at all till rather recently, since many ofthe features that would make it so are yet to be put in place in the game.
