Today is Star Trek Day. On September 8, 1966 (55 years ago), the 7 person deck crew of the starship Enterprise would "warp" into space & into the hearts of so many in history & world-wide. Long before we heard, "Long time ago, in a galaxy far far away", there was, "Space, the final frontier. These are the voyages of the Starship Enterprise. Her five-year mission: To explore strange, new worlds; To seek out new life and new civilizations; To boldly go where no man has gone before…" Yes, George Lucas WAS infact inspired by Star Trek. Since then we have been introduced to star ship captains like (James T. Kirk), alien races like Vulcans (Mr. Spock), Klingons like (Worf) & even our greatest enemy, the Borg. Star Trek was not only a cool tv show, but it caused many to think about space travel, our humanity on Earth, alien civilizations, & the philosophy of good & evil. It was a "thinking person's" sci-fi show. If you have never watched the show, give it a try, today is Star Trek Day, "seems only logical" - Mr. Spock. "Mr. Sulu, take us home!"

Alexander Courage wrote the music. Roddenberry wrote some lyrics to this masterpiece, never intending to use them, but did so only to try to cop 50% of the song writing royalties. Loulie Jean Norman sang the theme song, which is near impossible to humanly replicate. A masterpiece.

Here they are: Beyond the rim of the starlight My love is wand'ring in star flight I know, he'll find in star-clustered reaches Love, strange love a star woman teaches I know, his journey ends never His star trek must go on forever Tell him while he wanders his starry sea, remember Remember me
@jojopuppyfish11 ай бұрын
The reason the theme has lyrics was that Gene Roddenbery wanted an extra income. So he basically took some of the money from the guy who wrote the music. A really rotten thing to do.

remembering how how mae jemison made me want to be a scientist, and how uhura was her inspiration....knowing that I never met jemison but have met nicholes, and teaching people today about medical science and space travel.....the 1.989x10^30kg of the sun, it's temperature of 5.5K Celsius...how Aldebaran is 44 times larger than the sun, and lightyears away, and the flight paths of comets and lifecycles of stars....makes me feel nostalgic for TOS.....it's a simple show. no agenda, not educational, political, or religious......just good story telling on a low budget that became something culturally ahead of its time. While it had its conflicts in the story, it never had a nihilistic outlook on humanity's future--always hopeful, no matter how dire. and then there is the euphoria in those simple words "to explore strange new worlds; to seek out new life and new civilizations; to boldly go where no man has gone before".
